He beat a stronger field when winning a Geelong claimer a month ago, then was luckless when fifth behind Walton Van at Bendigo before running home nicely for third to Bold Cruiser in an Free For All here a fortnight ago. FAROUK (3) is an old-timer who’s never raced better. A nine year old, he won his fourth and fifth races for the season with tough back-to- back Harold Park efforts recently, the latest when finishing off in 58.2 from the breeze last week. ROCKET WARRIOR (9) ran third to HENCHMAN (11) at Geelong, then second to Dark Shadow at Ballarat before missing away and running a brave fourth to Cosmic Under Fire in a stand here last week. He’s always a chance at this level. BOLD RAIDER (6) made it two on end when following a wide-to-the-breeze Yarra Valley victory with a fast finishing Cranbourne success last Sunday. A seven time winner this season, he was claimed out of that race into the stable of Stephen Cleave. GARSTANG (2) has speed and could lead for a long way - he has each way claims along with MISTER DOUGLAS (4); PRINCE BONTON (7), who’ll be improved by one run from a long spell; MIGHTY MAC CAILEN (8); and tough campaigner SCOTLAND THE BRAVE (10). RATINGS: 11 / 3 / 6, 9 / 2, 7 / 4, 10. SUGGESTED BET: HENCHMAN (11) to win. 2 HROA Youthful Stakes 2100m. $20000. 2yo Fillies PBD Mobile ? PEACES OF YOU (2) impressed on debut here a fortnight ago where she was eased from a wide gate and flashed home for a two metre fourth over the sprint trip to Modern Gir . She’ll be even better for that run and the longer trip should suit her as well. GLENFERRIE INN (1) was a luckless fifth in that same race – she was trapped three back the pegs and badly held up. Placed in strong back-to-back Kilmore affairs at her only two previous runs, she draws her best alley so far and is due to break through. BALLANDELLA BABY (9) didn’t do much at her first two runs before sitting in the breeze when second to Modern Girl here last time and obviously a driving switch to Greg Sugars had a lot to do with that performance. Rate her highly. REVIVALIST (6) beat top colt Crombie at Kilmore earlier this month, then made a mistake here a fortnight ago before a gallant second to WESTERN IMPACT (3) at Bendigo last weekend where she worked hard to the lead and was cut down late in a 27.6 last split. WESTERN IMPACT (3) draws for similar success – she’s a much improved filly. First starter LOMBO QUICK STEP (4) (Modern Art – Hot To Trot Lombo) is a Peter Hornsby trained daughter and first foal of a mare who won five races. This filly ran 1:59.4 in a recent Shepparton trial victory so has obvious ability. RATINGS: 2 / 1 / 9 / 3, 4? 6. Whatever beats him here will win. LITTLE VANCE LOT (1) flashed home late from three back the pegs when just failing to pick up the in-form Brooklyn Bute at Ballarat last Monday and looks nicely suited here as either the leader or a sprint laner. RUN RILEY RUN (8) ran a close second to Veranjee in a hot final here last week and looks to be approaching his best form. He’ll get a soft trip from this good trailing draw. KING OF PARADISE (9) hasn’t had much luck in four runs since a break and is going a lot better than his formline suggests. Most of the others have winning chances with perhaps the only horse that can’t figure being (7). RATINGS: 6 / 1, 8 / 9 / 2, 3, 4, 5. SUGGESTED BET: WHIPAIR (6) to win. MICKIE DILINGER (6) was a handy three year old last season, winning four times and racing well at Breeders Crown level, and he looked good in his second run from a long break when wide to the breeze and finishing off in 27.8 in his Bendigo victory last week over SLEDGING (10). He’s tough and will be even fitter this time. LAHAINI (1) is another former talented youngster who powered home to win first up at Kilmore, then didn’t have much luck from an awkward draw when third in the Shepparton heat. She’ll also be improved by two runs this time in and has the perfect alley. OUR MAID MARIANNE (2) ran a brave second at Stawell before doing plenty in the final circuit when second in the Ballarat heat to CONFIGURATION (12). She has gate speed and draws to use it this time. SLEDGING (10) won nine races as a two and three year old and looked good in his come-from-behind first up second at Bendigo to MICKIE DILINGER (6). He draws awkwardly but is a classy animal. Each way chances to PANSLILSWEETHEART (3), STARPICKET OSTI (8), and CONFIGURATION (12), who won well at Ballarat but hasn’t been favoured by an awkward draw. RATINGS: 6 / 1, 2, 10 / 3, 12 / 8. Now a seven year old, her last win was at Ararat in October 2006, but recent efforts against the boys have been outstanding. She finished third in a heat of the Rising Stars a fortnight ago here to Captian Cullen when wide in the final circuit, then was badly held up and finished near the rear in a hot final behind Veranjee. This is a big drop in grade. VERY CHIC (5) ran a brave race when pressured in the lead and a close fourth against our top mares last week when beaten a length by Lucky Elsie in a fast 1:55.2. Her winning chance probably depends on finding the front but there is plenty of gate speed inside her. MISS DEVILLE (3) is one of those with early toe. She won at her first six starts this season before a luckless second to Veranjee at Warragul, that horse having won here twice since, then sat in the breeze to win at Cranbourne before having no luck there last Sunday. MISS LAURA JANE (4) is a tough mare who won strongly at Terang (1:57.2 for 2180), then led when narrowly beaten in a fast Harold Park sprint affair last weekend. They’ll certainly know she’s there. Each way chances to IDENGOOD TIME (1), CHRISTIANS DAUGHTER (2), GILT BROMAC (7), TOTALLY ORO (8) and LUCKY ECLIPSE (11). RATINGS: 3, 5, 6 / 4 / 1, 2, 7, 8, 11. A Harold Park winner over Conquer All three starts back, he then scored easily from a back mark at Menangle, then last time won the Boort Trotters Cup at Bendigo after surrendering the lead to the talented Skyvalley and running him down in a brilliant 57.5 last half. OUTLOOKING (1) is an honest Chris Lang trainee who won the Charlton Trotters Cup three starts back before a couple of back mark failures. Essentially a front-of-the-field performer, he looks well suited from the draw. DREAM A MOMENT (6) won races at Geelong and Ballarat before finishing third to IN PURSUIT (9) at Bendigo last week and with that horse now coming from the second line, has a chance to turn the tables. LA MOSCA (11) made it five placings on end when finishing well from the rear for second to I Didnt Do It here last week, that following an FFA third on this circuit to Sundons Gift. It was a great effort from an awkward alley and she draws to trail the likely leader this time with the sprint lane her biggest friend. BROOKLYN BUTE (1) has been in outstanding form this time in winning his last five and he has his first crack here at FFA company. An all the way winner here over Im Mark Antony a fortnight ago, he sat in the breeze to score at Ballarat last Monday and from the draw will be shooting for an all the way success. BENUCCI (5) is racing in career best form. He did a stack of work in the last lap to score easily in a Rising Star heat here a fortnight ago, then was off the track in the final circuit when third in the final last week to Veranjee. That was from a wide second line draw and he’ll race in a more forward position this time. BOLD CRUISER (9) continues to race well – his FFA win here a fortnight ago when beating Lucky Elsie was a great effort, especially with that mare having won since. WIDEFORD HILL (2) and YUCATCHIM (3) are also in the mix. RATINGS: 8 / 1 / 5, 6, 9 / 2, 3. SUGGESTED BET: MISTY MILLER (8) to win. 8 Luxury Stone Vicbred Pace 10.20 2100m. $15001. He had the run of the race and fought on manfully when a close second in fast time to Whipair at Bendigo last weekend before missing the start from the stand in the Gunbower Cup at Echuca last Sunday. CASUAL FELLA (5) has run some good races here in the past and deserves a metro breakthrough. He finished well for second in a strong Geelong affair eight days ago and drops in grade from that run. Riverina performer BOXER MANDEL (3) caught the eye with a fast finishing fourth at Shepparton ten days ago and won’t get an easier chance to break his metro maiden status. CLAUDE GREENGRASS (1) went nicely when fourth in a strong Bendigo race before having no luck from an awkward draw there last week. He looks nicely suited from the draw. Former top youngster UNOJOE (6) is working into some form and has each way claims along with SMOKIN JOKER (8). RATINGS: 4 / 5 / 3 / 1, 6. She overpowered recent Queensland Oaks runner up Keppel Bay to score here two starts back, then outclassed a moderate field to win by 20 metres at Shepparton last time – the runner up in that race, Davids Lady winning since. FLYIN INDI AIR (1) has only won 1 of 19 but has been a big improver of recent times. That win came up two starts back at Shepparton where she powered home along the sprint lane, then she battled on well when second at Kilmore late last week. Over the sprint trip she draws ideally. GOLDEN SHOWGIRL (6) won the Breeders Crown Consolation late last season and scored at her first three runs back this term before being spelled after a couple of lacklustre runs. Resuming from a break of ten weeks, she outclassed moderate opposition at Ballarat last Monday and will be further improved by that outing. ONEBYONE (5) did a good job to score well from the breeze at Ararat last time and has claims along with CASINO PRINCESS (3), the likely leader who’ll run a bold race over the mile; and ex-Kiwi HECTIC (7)who made it two from three in Australia with an amazing Kilmore success last week where she gave her moderate opposition a long start after blowing the start.
