He returned to winning form when making it ten successes from 38 tries at Bendigo last week where he covered ground in the last circuit and narrowly beat a better field than what he meets here. WONT BE THE SAME (3) was wide to the breeze when scoring an impressive first up victory at Ballarat a month ago, then galloped in the final of that race at Moonee Valley when camped just off the pace. A clean beginning here will see him hard to beat. HEZA HERO (11) made a mistake and finished strongly for second at Ballarat last Monday. He’s shown a recent return to the form that won him six races last season and looks one of the main chances here. STARTONSCRATCH (1) won back-to-back races at Geelong and here last August/ September, then wasn’t seen again until a luckless third first up third at Warragul a month ago. He draws to be in the finish. Each way chances to JUSTACHANDON (2), a winner here two starts back; LEFT ONE EYE OUT (5), who made a mistake last time; KELLYS NIPPA (7), who’ll be improved by a close first up fifth at Bendigo last week; and MAORI SUNSHINE (9), who was beaten a neck when third in that race behind SALUTE TO WAGON (12) at Bendigo. RATINGS: 12 / 3, 11 / 1, 7 / 2, 5, 9. Now a four year old, she won a similar race to this at Shepparton back in September before an honest and luckless first up effort in a much stronger race than this at Bendigo last week. This is her first try from the stand. ON TOP FOR MEE (13) finished well to win from the stand at Bendigo five starts back, then ran third there in a similar race to Dazed And Confused before finishing close up in two recent strong mobiles. He’s handicapped off 20 metres in this easier race and has claims. PARWAN ROCKET (10) is working up to a win and doesn’t need to improve much on his Geelong standing start second last week. ADISTACTOS (3) is an unknown quantity from the stand but has plenty of speed and ability and will be right in this if he steps away with them. HEATHVALE LAD (1) is an honest type who draws for each way claims along with GO MILO (5), OPEN UP THE BANK (8), DANCING LEGACY (9), HES ALBERT (11) and FLASH OF FREEDOM (12). RATINGS: 6 / 13 / 3, 10 / 1, 5, 8 / 9, 11, 12. She ruined her chances with bad behaviour in previous runs to her easy standing start Maryborough victory a fortnight ago, then showed blistering speed from the gate when beating Magic Interest and CHIPMONT LAD (12) at Yarra Valley last week. Whatever beats her here will win. OUR SOLAR FLARE (7), a Geelong winner last September, was first up and favourite when succumbing to a tough trip and finishing fourth to LA LUNA (8) at Geelong last week. Expect better this time. KAN YU (10) won her second race for the season with a death seat Maryborough mobile success a fortnight ago and is a tough filly with strong claims. CHIPMONT LAD (12) hasn’t put a foot wrong this time in with Geelong and Maryborough mobile victories and three placings from his five starts. He made good ground when third to DOTTIE HINSON (13) at Yarra Valley last week. Stablemate LA LUNA (8) is in the mix along with UNBUNDLED (11), who’s resuming, while SANTO DOMINGO (1), RAYLEIGH DANCER (4) and COMMAND THE WIND (9) should also be respected. The first starter is SAMBALADA (6) (In The Pocket – Eloquent Poplar), a Bob Conroy trained gelding whose dam has had three winners from three previous foals including outstanding pacer Run Albert Run. 25 wins, $162K. Three starts back, he won the Geelong Guineas beating GARNET RIVER (5) and Jackpot Banker – that’s a great formline. GARNET RIVER (5) followed his second at Geelong to VILLAGE OF DREAMS (7) with an all the way win (26.4 home) in a slow Gold Coast APG heat, then finished second in the final there a fortnight ago to Hilton Fly High. He’s a classy animal. COOL AND CASUAL (4) made it back-to-back victories when out-finishing them in a fast 57.7 last half at Bendigo last week and will be improved by that, his first start in eight weeks. COASTAL (8) didn’t have much go his way when finishing down the track at the Valley last week but prior runs included a victory over GARNET RIVER (5) in a Valley day affair, and a close and luckless second to Living On Fire there in Saturday night company. THE COURAGE WITHIN (3) was a big improver to sit in the breeze when winning here last week and he looks the other main winning chance, with GOLD TARGET (6) having place claims at least. RATINGS: 7 / 4, 5 / 3, 8 / 6. He can be a bit risky but if he leaves the gate well enough, should be able to control the tempo. Quality mare PACIFIC CHARM (4) ran second to Deanna Troy in a top mares race in Hobart back in December, then was resuming from the second line when running home nicely for third to JUST CALLME CULLEN (2) here last time. She’ll be much improved by that outing. ALBERT JACCKA (6) has only won 1 of 16 this season but been racing at the top level. Second to Im Mark Antony at Ballarat two starts back, he disappointed in a hot Moonee Valley FFA to Bold Cruiser a fortnight ago but will find this race so much easier. HULA GOLD (3) was a good Ballarat winner second up, then failed at Geelong before a luckless unplaced run behind Lucky Elsie in a 1:55.2 mile at the Valley last weekend. She rates highly from the good draw. JACKSON STREET (7) showed speed when fourth at the Valley last week (he won here three starts back) and is also in the mix along with ARMA HARRIS (9), who won the Albury Cup before running second at the Valley – he was luckless there last week. A return to mares’ company and drop in grade is just what she’s been looking for. OURSANDYBEACH (12) finished well to win a Valley day affair two starts back, then pulled hard when a battling fourth against better than these at Ballarat last time. Watch for her strong finishing burst. BAY TORRENT (7) impressed in a tough sprint success here early last month, then wasn’t seen again until failing at Bendigo last week when unable to make ground when wide in a fast last half. She’ll be a lot better for that run and meets beatable opposition. WYA MYA MACRAY (9) looked good in a win and two placings at Geelong before failing at Charlton last week. She deserves another chance. Each way claims to SILENI (1) (resuming), VIOLET PARR (6) and GIVEUSACHANCE (8), who ran an improved race for second at Yarra Valley last time. He’ll be further improved and draws to find the lead once more. MEGASAM (5) is an outstanding ex-Kiwi who’s won four races this season and worked his way into top class at Moonee Valley. A winner there over WALTON VAN (6) four starts back, he hasn’t been seen since racing wide when fourth to Zenad there on Hunter Cup night, seven weeks ago. YES I CAN (2) has only raced once this season for an impressive all the way victory over Lucky Elsie on Ballarat Cup night a couple of months back. He draws to have some chance of heading off this favourite and in his best form, would be mighty hard to run down. WALTON VAN (6) has been in outstanding form this season – he beat Irish Sailor at the Valley, then Power Of Tara at Bendigo before a luckless fifth at the Valley a fortnight ago. Rate him highly. LOMBO LIMMO (4) and QUICK ARMBRO (9) have rough claims. RATINGS: 1 / 5? / 2, 6 / 4, 9. A dual winner, she draws well in this CO affair and looks the clear top pick. GODINES JASPER (6) is an honest type who sat in the breeze when second to top youngster Franco Newsman at Ballarat last week. That was his first run for a month and he should be even better this time. DALMONT CHARLI (5) hasn’t raced since a Bendigo fourth in July 2007. She showed ability back then as a two year old and has trialled well for her return. CONFETTI (4) is a professional placegetter who didn’t have much luck when third to Hectic here last week and isn’t far off a breakthrough victory. The only other winning chance belongs to LOMBO PHENOMENA (7), who’s won 1 of 40. He was placed twice before a luckless fifth to Indigo Bay in a hot Bendigo affair a fortnight ago. RATINGS: 3? / 6 / 4, 5? 7. SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 3 and 6 to win and run second with the field for third.
