Herald Sun Form Guide : March 21st 2009
heraldsun.com.au Caulfield TODAY PROS TALKING Mark Read BOOKMAKER, IASBET MIDNIGHTMUSTANG(Caul R6 No. 8) is clearly the most promising provincial horse in the past six months. With Craig Williams on, he is entitled to a favourable run throughout the race from barrier three, and this horse has an exceptional turn of foot. Peter Moody TRAINER REWARDFOREFFORT (Rosehill R2 No. 1): Travelled up well. Trained on in good fashion since Blue Diamond win. Wide barrier a big concern. TYPHOONTRACY(Rosehill R7 No. 13): Very good filly who has trained on well since her impressive Flemington victory. I would be confident of a win but for her horror draw. SENORZORRO(Caul R1 No. 1): Trained on well. Hoping he can make it three straight. DEFINITIVE (Caul R2 No. 9): Honest and going well. Expect him to be a major chance. AL’SBESTMATE(Caul R4 No. 3): Happy with his first-up run where he chased home two top horses. If he can produce that run will be in the finish. LORDPINDARI (Caul R5 No. 10): Racing consistently. Outside barrier is a concern. Each-way chance. MASKEDASSASSIN (Caul R6 No. 2): Returning from a long spell. Is working well but may need the run. Rodney Douglas TRAINER UTMOSTFAITH (Caul R1 No. 5): Probably was a little disappointing at his debut when he struggled to the line. I’ve put blinkers on him and I amexpecting improvement. PREVARICATE (Caul R2 No. 4): He’s the new stable star. Since I’ve started jumping him, he’s improved out of sight. Should get a nice run in front again and will take running down. LARRY’SNEVERLATE (Caul R5 No. 1): I’ve given him three weeks to recover from his brilliant first-up win. Should be hard to beat again. SHARKBITE (Caul R7 No. 3): I’ve just about given up with him. I’ve jumped him this week and the step out in distance in a moderate field could see him turn things around. HOT JOCKS TAB JOCKEY CHALLENGE MARKET $1.50 $5.50 $10 $11 $12 $17 $23 $26 Craig Williams Chris Symons Jamie Mott Ibrahim Gundogdu Any othe indiv. jockey Daniel Moor William Egan Mark Pegus HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT TRACK BURNERS Jim Meek CAULFIELD AMBERINO(Caul R8 No. 3): Races well fresh. John Moloney has the horse in great shape. Sure to give a good sight once again. Warren Huntly FLEMINGTON AZWA(Caul R1 No. 4): Very promising filly who looks to have trained on nicely since her debut victory. Expect her to be in the finish. Rod Smart filly: Ortensia, a Group 3 winner last start, resumes for trainer Tony Noonan in race four at Caulfield today. MIDNIGHT OIL with TIM HABEL TRACK: Dead 4 PENETROMETER: 5.20 RAIL: Out 7m LAST MEETING: 4m, February 28 LAST TIME TRUE: February 21 RAINFALL: 33.8mm for week IRRIGATION: 4mm for week RADAR: Clear then clearing out at the finish. He has been saved for this rather than tackle a Listed race in Adelaide. STONE- BLACK (3) is a strong finisher down in class but also back 200m in distance. AZWA (4) beat three rivals on debut at Sandown. Watch the market on well-bred Lee Freedman unraced pair CADENZA (6) and MONT FLEURI (7). ON PACERS: Senor Zorro, Azwa SWOOPERS: Stoneblack SUGGESTED BET: Senor Zorro win 1 2 3 are either preparing for the jumps or outclassed. Buffett was Group-placed and ran fourth in the Victoria Derby in his first campaign. He’s second-up at 2000m but is on the AJC Derby trail and won his maiden at 1700m at his second start. Definitive might be looking for a bigger track but shows staying potential. PREVARICATE (4) has been a revelation since he started schooling over the jumps. He will lead and give a good sight again after a Sandown midweek win. YAWHCRA (6) is one of the few older runners with scope for improvement after a Moonee Valley restricted win. ON PACERS: Prevaricate SWOOPERS: Danever, Buffett, Yawhcra, Definitive SUGGESTED BET: Buffett each- way, quinellas with 4, 9. She gets 5.5kg off topweight BENA- TAR (1), who also resumes. Benatar was placed at Group level in the spring, so she has a touch of class. DANCE ON AIR (4) failed at Moonee Valley last time after a speed duel. She will get a soft lead here and, two runs back over this trip, beat all but Group-class Damselfly. GOLDFIELD ASHES (6) hasn’t won since Septem- ber 2007 but always runs well fresh. She just failed in this race last year. ON PACERS: Dance On Air SWOOPERS: Benatar, Whitehaven WHITEHAVEN GIRL (2) is a good mare fresh and well weighted after the 2kg claim. Three year-olds BUFFETT (5) and DEFINITIVE (9) are the key runners here. Most of their rivals SENOR ZORRO (1) was impressive at Sandown in a midweeker, working to lead and Girl, Falvelon’s Dream, Goldfield Ashes SUGGESTED BET: Whitehaven Girl each-way ORTENSIA (2). Ortensia is a filly against the males but she had stronger form in the spring with a win against Romneya and a placing behind Time Thief. She was untouched to win a Cranbourne trial on March 10. There will be good speed setting the race up for the closers. THORN LAKE (8) blew the start at Sandown at his second start but ran on well and looks promising. AL’S BEST MATE (3) was beaten by Champagne Harmony when resum- ing so that’s good form. 4 ON PACERS: Al’s Best Mate, Tully Dreamer, Tango’s Choice SWOOPERS: True Tales, Ortensia SUGGESTED BET: Ortensia straight out, quinellas with 1, 8. Cadbury Guineas, but he can be a big improver here. Winkers go on and his run-on effort to come from last to run fourth to Mic Mac and Champagne Harmony three runs back is great form for a race of this grade. DEPENDANT (8) was shuffled back to the rear before charging home late in a good midweek field at Sandown and looks promising. LARRY’S NEVER LATE (1) maintained his unbeaten first-up record to win at Sandown in midweek grade. On the SA Derby trail, he was one-paced in the spring and second-up here may lack the zip he showed when resum- ing. OZOLINS (5) is a lightly raced improver who won well under lights at the Valley. 5 ON PACERS: Georgia’s Boy, Lord Pindari SWOOPERS: Larry’s Never Late, Bartholdi, Ozolins, Dependant SUGGESTED BET: Bartholdi each- way THE BANKERS ON CLASS: BUFFETT (Race 2 No. 5) ON POTENTIAL: ORTENSIA (Race 4 No. 2) HISSING SID (Race 7 No. 9) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE for 78.1%: 1,2,5,8 / 1,2,6,8/9/ 1,2,5,9 BARTHOLDI (2) was never a factor when he tailed out to last and did not pass a horse in the The match race of the day between unbeaten TRUE TALES (1) and classy filly 6 MIDNIGHT MUSTANG (8) is the spruik horse of the race. He is going to be short odds for a horse on his first Melbourne assign- ment, with his only city run a 0-75 win in Adelaide. But he has a great strike rate, can race on the pace or take a sit and, on the limit, will go close. COCINERO (1) is a grand sprinter back in form and well entitled to the 57.5kg. OKAY OKY (6) will be running on as usual, MASKED ASSASSIN (2) is the class runner and resumes from a 392-day spell. He showed speed when second in a recent Cranbourne trial. ON PACERS: Masked Assassin, Northern Point SWOOPERS: Cocinero, Bird Of Fire, Okay Oky 7 SUGGESTED BET: Midnight Mus- tang straight out, quinellas with 1,2,6. and has won here. There is not a lot of speed and he should slide forward and race in the first four. FAST FUTURE (2) is running here in preference to a stakes race in Adelaide. He was scratched because of a track downgrade last week and has raced well fresh in the past. SHARKBITE (3) disappointed at Flemington but has been schooling over the jumps and is a 1700m Listed race winner here. SARRERA (1) is a dual Group 1 winner who worked home well when resuming at Flemington. ON PACERS: Sharkbite, Montechoro SWOOPERS: Sarrera, Fast Future, Hissing Sid former Tasmanian LADY LYNETTE (5) are the key runners. Miss Badoura has won six races at Moonee Valley but she’s also won her past two here. She has 60kg, but has won three city races with 58kg. Sensational Toy is ready for the 1400m after two sprint runs. Lady Lynette is unbeaten in five starts at this trip. Best of the rest may be SWANZ (9), who ran on well when resuming at Moonee Valley. 8 ON PACERS: Sensational Toy, The Clown SWOOPERS: Miss Badoura, Distinc- tive Lass, Swanz SUGGESTED BET: Miss Badoura each-way SUGGESTED BET: Hissing Sid straight out Veteran mares MISS BADOURA (1) and SENSA- TIONAL TOY (2) and promising HISSING SID (9) is ready to win after two 1400m runs from a spell. He’s looking for the 1600m Griffiths CRANBOURNE NUCLEARFORCE(Caul R3 No. 7): Very consistent and has been kept fresh since her good second at Sandown. Each-way claims. Les Obriem MORNINGTON ORTENSIA (Caul R4 No. 2): Top- class filly resuming.Wona trial at Cranbourne recently. Dashed a smart 600m on the course proper on Wednesday. Looks very fit.
