An outstanding second to Lombo Lumber Jack at Ballarat three starts back was followed by an over aggressive drive there when down the track behind Im Mark Antony in a hot race, then she trailed wide in the last circuit and hit the line well when not far away and sixth to Veranjee in a strong affair last weekend. If she can hold the lead over this sprint trip, they may not run her down. KING OF PARADISE (9) is a talented four year old who’s won 11 of 43. He ran third from a 20 metre back mark when second up from a break at Kilmore a fortnight ago, then couldn’t get around them when three wide mid-race and eased to the rear here last week behind Veranjee. He follows out the early speed and Alford should have him poised just off the pace. BRIKANTE (8) was a Bendigo winner in December but lost form after that. He’s a sit/sprint gelding who went okay when sixth at Bendigo a fortnight ago when having his first run for six weeks and may be sitting on the leader’s back here. NO MORE SECRETS (3) was a disappointing odds-on favourite when he led and faded late to third at Geelong last week, but looks better suited over this shorter trip. NORMIE (5) is an enigmatic 4YO who runs a good race every now and then and has each way claims along with, to a lesser extent JACKSON STREET (6), KALYPSON KID (7) and CRAFTY DENNIS (10). RATINGS: 1 / 9 / 3, 8 / 5 / 6, 7 / 11. SUGGESTED BET: PRINCESS DILINGER (1) to win. 2 Radio Sport 927 4YO Pace 7.15 2100m. $8000. He looks the leader and should be fully wound up after three country wins from four starts this time in. CRUSADERS CASTLE (10) only started racing last season and has won 5 of 16 but he didn’t quite measure up at Derby or Breeders Crown level. He resumes in a winnable race off back-to-back Cranbourne trial victories, but the draw is awkward. DANCE WITH ARMBRO (6) has won three of his last five, the most recent of those from the breeze at Kilmore in January. He trialled well at Kilmore last week. ART TRADER (11) is a tough staying four year old who worked to the lead when beating Mighty Shard at Bendigo a fortnight ago, then sat in the breeze when beaten a nose in 1:58.6 by Luminous Lombo there last Sunday. With a fast pace up front, he’ll be the tough one at the business end. Each way chances to MASCARPONE (5), an impressive first up Cobram winner against easier recently; and DOONAREE DANCER (9), who’s racing in career best form with three country wins from his latest four runs. RATINGS: 3 / 10 / 6, 11 / 5, 9. Normally a fast beginner, he’ll probably take a trail and use the sprint lane. COSMIC UNDER FIRE (4) also excels from the stand. He was unlucky when fourth in a strong mobile to Brooklyn Bute last week and looks much better suited here under these conditions. ZONDA (6) had good standing start form in feature races in Tasmania in his last preparation, 15 months ago, and has gone nicely in two runs this time in, the most recent a solid Ballarat victory last weekend. He’ll be much improved by those outings. WIDEFORD HILL (7), who won the Echuca Cup in January then ran third to Mr Feelgood in the Shepparton Cup, has had no luck in strong Cup races since and will appreciate the dropping in grade, albeit from the handicap mark. Rate him highly. Chances also to FLAMIN TACT (3), a dual standing start winner who’s shown big improvement in his last couple of runs, and to a lesser extent the other three runners KORLIM GARRY (2), ROCKET WARRIOR (5) and DOOLAN JACK (8). As the horse drawn inside him is a slow beginner, he may find the lead this time, a position from which he races best. COASTAL (4) beat Garnet River on his merits at a recent Valley day meeting, then flashed home late for a close and luckless second to top youngster Living On Fire here two starts back before being unsuited by the slow pace and the sprint home when fourth in the Geelong Guineas to VILLAGE OF DREAMS (8) last time. Rate him highly. INDIGO BAY (9), a Derby heat placegetter in January, had no luck at his next three runs before fast finishing back-to-back Bendigo victories. A staying type, he’ll be doing his best work at the finish. ULTIMATE UNDER FIRE (3) looked good in a Shepparton victory over Keppel Bay three starts back but has disappointed in both runs since. He’s been freshened with a three week break between runs and must be considered. VILLAGE OF DREAMS (8) made it five wins from eight starts this season when following his victory in the Geelong Guineas over Garnet River with an easy Globe Derby success last weekend, but he’ll need a little luck as he’s drawn behind an average beginner. The other major winning chance belongs to DUAL AGENT TABMAN (1), who’s won recent races at Bendigo and Geelong in impressive fashion but he’s lacked gate speed so far and may not make full use of the pole draw. She’s a talented mare and faces her biggest test to date against some talented opposition of her own sex. HARRYS LASS (8) has run some good races recently in strong fields and draws to sit right behind the pole marker. It looks a matter of leader/behind leader here. LUCKY ELSIE (5) is racing as well as any mare in the land but faces a task from the wide alley over the sprint trip. The Terang Cup winner two starts back, she was off the track in the last lap and motored late when a close second to Bold Cruiser here last week and with an ounce of luck, can beat these. MISTY MILLER (4) is a top Harold Park mare who’s recently transferred to the all conquering Emma Stewart stable for whom she trialed well recently. She had a couple of handy lead up runs to an abortive Inter Dominion campaign, and looks nicely graded here on her best form. PERFECT KATIE (3) has raced twice from a short break for a Warragul fifth when pressured in front, and a 1:58 Cobram 2170 success when outfinishing Miss Laura Jane. She’s a talented mare who should be sitting just off the pace and will certainly run home strongly at the business end.. THATS THE SPIRIT (6) hasn’t had much luck of late and looks best of the others. RATINGS: 1, 8 / 4, 5 / 3 / 4? / 6. A heat winner of the Golden Nugget in WA back in November, he failed in the final, then finished down the track in a strong Gloucester Park affair before going for a break. A 1:58 Shepparton trial win where he finished off in 55.3 indicates his readiness for this. IM MARK ANTONY (9) is a talented four year old who came wide in the last lap when beating Albert Jaccka at Ballarat before again doing plenty in the final circuit and a close second here last week to Brooklyn Bute. From this good trailing draw, he’ll be sitting just off the pace and is sure to be in the finish. HEATHBERN DIAMOND (1) made it four on end with a death seat Harold Park success before a luckless unplaced effort here last week. He’s drawn poorly in recent runs and from the pole this time, will be mighty hard to beat. Each way chances to SPIDER NELSON (2), a recent Geelong winner who was luckless here last week; VILLAGE WARRIOR (4), who’s won eight races over the last six months but hasn’t started since a Shepparton victory in October; and LUV THA ACES LOMBO (8), who’s winless this season in 15 starts but has been racing much better than that formline suggests. Speaking of impossible, VERANJEE (10) was an amazing winner of his heat of this series as he was last on the corner before storming home to win last week. He’s a wonderfully consistent performer who can win again despite his awkward second line draw. The other heat winner of this race BENUCCI (12) was wide in the final lap when outstaying them last week and is in career best form. He faces a task from the extreme draw but it would be hard to find a horse in this state who’s racing in better form. WAIONA (5) has claims on a recent hat trick of seconds from awkward barriers – he hit the line well when second here last week to CAPTIAN CULLEN (1) after racing wide in the final circuit. LOMBO LIMMO (11) is racing well but will need luck from the draw – he looks the other winning chance. RATINGS: 1 / 10 / 12 / 5 / 11. He made it four wins from his four starts so far when wide to the breeze and racing away to win over the sprint trip in 1:57.5 here at his latest start, a month ago. Prior to that he’d set a Moonee Valley 2YO mark of 1:56.1 in his all the way victory. DARK CAMEO (8) settled well back in a stand at Maryborough before circling them in the final lap and recording an effortless debut victory from the stand a month ago, then ran a fast 1:58.5 when wide to the breeze to score well at Cranbourne at his subsequent run, ten days ago. His second line draw is negated by the longer journey of this race. CROMBIE (1) hasn’t finished further back than second in four runs.. A wide to the breeze Kilmore winner a month ago, he came from an impossible position when flashing home for second to Revivalist there three weeks ago, then did it tough to score well at Shepparton on Wednesday. SIR HUTCHY (4) finished stoutly for a close Ballarat debut second before a solid third to DARK CAMEO (8) at Cranbourne last time where he led, copped pressure and gave plenty of cheek. He may be in front once more and will be hard to run down. KAMWOOD JACK (6) won The Lombo from the breeze at Shepparton back in January but hasn’t really fired in three runs since. He’s had a short break and should regroup for this. The first starter is LIVELY OSKA (3) (Live Or Die – Kimberley Cool) is one of three Tony Peacock trained runners in this race – he’s been placed in a couple of recent Kilmore trials. He has blistering gate speed which he’s used recently in Kilmore and Maryborough victories at his latest two outings, and there’s no reason why he won’t repeat the dose here. BELEVA (3) raced well at the top level last season but didn’t really fire in three runs back in November/December. A recent transference of stables to the Bob Conroy camp won’t hurt him, and drawn inside this favourite, he can cause him some grief. AFRITI (2) ran his best race for some time when a bold second at Shepparton last time and has trialled well since. He has early speed and is well suited by the good alley.
