A reliable beginner, and as one of only three runners on the front line, he’ll be prominent throughout. DREAM A MOMENT (5) is a talented ex-Kiwi who hasn’t been out of place in six runs since coming here, winning three of them – the latest of those when scoring an all the way victory over In Pursuit at the Valley last Saturday night. She’s been beginning brilliantly and it wouldn’t surprise to see her contesting the lead before too long. LOOK HERE BLOKE (6) followed placings at Ballarat and Moonee Valley when in the breeze outside I Didnt Do It with a luckless unplaced effort there last week where he made a mistake when looking for racing room. Rate him highly. DELPHI ROSE (3) is a talented mare who finished a close third in fast time at Bendigo last week and is normally a speedy beginner. Each way chances to SPEEDY NAOMI (11), and BELEVA (13), who was well supported when resuming for new trainer Bob Conroy at the Valley a fortnight ago, where he didn’t have much luck in the home straight. RATINGS: 1 / 5 / 3, 6 / 13 / 11 / 9. This filly has won trials at Ballarat and here and draws perfectly for her debut. It would be hard to find a better bred filly than MY LADY MACRAY (4) (Christian Cullen – Vicky Hanover), an Alan Tubbs trainee who’s won a couple of recent trials. By a champion racehorse and stallion, she’s from a broodmare gem who’s produced six winners from eight previous foals including Sires Stakes champions Bomber Macray, $128K; Dee En Ay Macray, $254K; and Same Old Macray, $248K. MORGAN ABBY (8) (Aces N Sevens – Boldandbeautiful) is a Wayne Potter trained first foal of a mare that won 14 races – this filly a recent Kilmore trial winner. Of the raced brigade, the beautifully bred OUR SURFER GIRL (2) makes most appeal. She was heavily backed but went poorly on debut at Stawell three weeks ago but has since trialled okay (beaten a metre by MY LADY MACRAY (4) at Ballarat) and rates well from the good alley. The other debutantes are GOOD NEWS LOMBO (6) (Blissful Hall – Peo Box Thirtynine), a Mario Callus trained filly whose dam has produced five winners from as many previous foals; and LEILA RAINBOW (9) (In The Pocket – Hay Sharon), a Jayne Davies trained daughter of a seven time winner who’s been trialling okay at Cranbourne RATINGS: 1? 4? / 8? / 2? From her three foals, she’s produced former handy juvenile winner Galveron and this filly has been trialling well enough for first up success. MACH AND ME (3) had the run of the race when a debut second at a Moonee Valley day meeting six weeks ago. A trial winner since she draws to go one better. NEVER WAVER LOMBO (10) ran fourth in a heat before winning a consolation of the Bathurst Gold Tiara over the past couple of weeks and although drawn poorly, has the ability to figure here. Best of the others is IMACHICITOO (8), who was placed at Stawell three starts back before failing in a heat and running third in a consolation at Bathurst. The query runner is MISS ASTRONOMICAL (1), a well bred Maree Caldow trained filly who was in the betting but made a mistake on debut at Gloucester Park a month ago. She’s trialled reasonably well since. RATINGS: 3? 4? / 10 / 8 / 1? SUGGESTED BET: Box quinella & trifecta 3, 4 and 10. FLYIN INDI AIR (4) followed some consistent form at the provincials with an impressive all the way win in that Valley mile race last week (how did she pay $29) and has bright prospects of repeating the performance. HOLDMEHAT (5) hasn’t finished further back than second in five starts and looked good in her last start Maryborough success when gifted the lead by stablemate Prince Zet and racing away to easily beat that fellow. Rate her highly. Last season’s champion filly ANA (7) (17 wins from 20 starts) has struggled this season but did go okay when winning a consolation at Bathurst last Saturday night. She’ll certainly let them know she’s around. Each way chances to ONEBYONE (3), who followed an Ararat death seat victory with an honest fourth at the Valley last week; and PARIS ANGEL (8), who won three of four before disappointing at Ballarat recently at her first run for five weeks – she’ll be an improver. SMOKEN UP (4) ran second from the breeze to I Am Sam when favourite in his first Inter Dominion heat, then did a stack of work when fifth to Changeover in the second round before drawing awkwardly on the second line and having no luck in the final last weekend behind Mister Feelgood. Over the sprint trip he’ll begin quickly and if he doesn’t cross and lead, will be pressuring whatever does. DIAMONDS N FURS (5) runs his best races over the short trip. He did all the work outside the leader when rating 1:55.2 to win the Melbourne Mile at the Valley in February and three starts back sat wide for the last lap when beating Changeover over this trip in the first round of the Inter Dominion. A tough second heat fourth followed, before a disappointing effort in the final where he sat behind the leader but pulled too hard and weakened. MEGASAM (3) is a talented ex-Kiwi who won four races earlier this season. He was resuming from a break when third to Tanabi Bromac at Kilmore last week and will clean up nicely for that outing. SAMMY MAGUIRE (7) is a rising star who faces his toughest test to date. He’s won 11 of 17, the latest when rating 1:57.3 to win a strong Moonee Valley affair a couple of months back and has trialled okay in recent times, but the wide alley makes it hard. Gavin will probably ease him back and hope for a fast pace up front. Each way chances to honest performers ALBERT JACCKA (1), who got to the line nicely when second at Kilmore last week; and SEQUOIAHS SPIRIT (2), who broke through for an overdue victory when scoring at Harold Park a fortnight ago RATINGS: 4 / 5 / 3 / 7 / 1, 2. SUGGESTED BET: SMOKEN UP (4) to win. Fr 21.00 Fr 13.00 Fr 11.00 Fr 6.00 Fr 21.00 Fr 7.00 Hutchy says: MISTER ANTHONY (6) made it two wins from six starts this season and 8 from 15 overall when an easy all the way Cranbourne winner recently where he finished off in 57.4. He meets another beatable field and looks the clear top pick. DUKE OF DURA (10) has jumped out of the ground in recent times. A wide- to-the-breeze middle distance winner here three weeks ago, he ran a mighty race to score in 1:56.9 over the sprint journey at Maryborough last week where he was off the track and without cover most of the way, and looks the main danger to this favourite. SMOKIN JOKER (4) had run of the race when second to top performer to Justcallmecullen at Kilmore before not having much go his way at the Valley last weekend. He draws to be in the finish. Each way chances to dour stayer ARDEN BANNISTER (5), honest performer ANOTHER HOLMES (8); HES ALBERT (9), who’s racing in peak form; and WYA MYA MACRAY (12), who’s won 5 of 11 this season but doesn’t draw the best. He looks destined for much bigger things and should be too good for these. VILLAGE SAINT (3) had the run of the race when out-finishing them at Ballarat over the middle distance before making good late ground for fourth in an unsuitable sprint affair at Bendigo last time. Drawn perfectly here, Gavin should have him poised just off the pace and he looks this favourite’s main danger. THE TRIBUNAL (11) is a tough customer who won at Bendigo in February and had no luck in three subsequent runs. He’s been freshened and should be doing his best work in the closing stages. Best of the others is handy mare CHRISP (9), who’s always running on in her races but doesn’t win overmuch these days. She comes off a hat trick of placings, the latest when running home nicely for third to Golden Showgirl at Ballarat ten days ago. He’ll probably sit outside THE GUNSTAR (2) and should be too strong in the run to the judge. THE GUNSTAR (2), who’s won 10 of 52, was a heavily supported favourite when resuming at Bendigo last week but weakened late after leading up. He’ll be much fitter and this track is more suitable to leaders. HULA GOLD (9) won at Ballarat four starts back and has been luckless since. She was doing her best work late when fifth to Justcallmecullen at Kilmore last week. Each way chances to BATTLE HEIGHTS (5), who’s been luckless in two runs since a strong Valley placing; and VILLAGE PUNGEE (8), who’s always thereabouts and dropping in grade a little.
