He returned from a spell with a regulation victory at Nyah twelve days ago where he worked around to sit in the breeze and battled home best. He looked to have more improvement in him and is the class runner against these. LIVE ANOTHER DAY (7) chased home well when second to MASTER WARATAH (11) at Nyah, that following placings at Charlton and Bendigo at his first two runs back from a spell. He shouldn’t be too far away in the run from this trailing draw. HEZA BOMBER BOY (10) is a tough gelding who worked hard in the breeze when out-staying Truckies Art here two starts back to record his fourth win for the season – the others being at Broken Hill. He was slowly out here at his latest run, then battled on okay after a wide last lap to run third. GALVIN STREET (3) is a new addition to the Boris Devcic stable and should be a useful performer in this area. His recent form’s nothing to write home about but he has gate speed and should be prominent over the sprint journey. MYRNIONG ASTRO (5) is a battling type who’ll appreciate getting Daryl Douglas back. RATINGS: 11 / 7 / 10 / 3 / 5 / 2, 4, 6, 8. From the pole, he’s the one to beat. POLONIS (4) impressed in his all the way heat win here a fortnight ago, making it two on end, and his mission will be to try and cross the polemarker and find the lead, a spot from where he races best. BLUE LOTUS (2) ran second here to POLONIS (4) then led when second in his heat to COALEMUS (8), who cut him down from three back the pegs. There isn’t much between that pair. ARE CEE DEE (7) was forced to work hard in the breeze when a gallant second in his heat to POLONIS (4) and should be sitting right behind this leader and favourite. Expect him to be prominent in the run home. SOUND IMPACT (3), HARDCOVER (6) and TULLABLITZEM (9) are also in the mix. RATINGS: 1 / 4 / 2, 7, 8 / 3, 9 / 6. He resumed with a luckless third at Albury three weeks ago, then from an awkward second line draw was wide without cover in the last lap when second in his heat of this race here during the week. He draws to use his gate speed this time and as the likely leader, will be hard to run down. MICKIE DILINGER (6) was a beaten favourite in his heat where he moved to a position outside the leader mid-race and was cut down late by a much improved CAMPBELL WALLACE (3). His prior runs were good efforts in back-to-back 4YO affairs at the Valley. CAMPBELL WALLACE (3) made it four wins and a second from his five starts in this area when impressive during the week and has strong claims again. STEVE MCQUEEN (11) followed a Moonee Valley third to Jaydens Castle with a slightly disappointing fourth in his heat here where he trailed up three wide behind MOHICAN PRINCE (2) and only battled into fourth place. There’s strong wraps about this fellow and he’s bound to improve on that run. BIG TOWN DRIVE (1) covered ground when a good Maryborough winner three starts back, then ran second from the breeze at Echuca before a battling third here on Tuesday night where he was slowly out. His chance here lies with him being able to muster enough speed to lead or take the trail. THE BEST SOUND (8) led all the way in his heat win here the other night and looked good, but will need luck her this time from the second line. OUR CRUSHERDUST (4) has place claims at least. RATINGS: 2 / 6 / 3 / 1, 11 / 8 / 4. SUGGESTED BET: MOHICAN PRINCE (2) to win. Fr 17.00 Fr 34.00 Fr Fr 5.00 7.32 MICHAEL MANLEY CRAIG RAIL BILL GLOVER BILL HUTCHISON MSTR WARA. His main dangers draw the second line, they being SHOT FROM THE HIP (8), who made it two wins from only three starts when flashing home from the rear to score here the other night - he shouldn’t be too far off them from this good trailing draw. IT AND A BIT (9) worked to the breeze mid-race and looked to have the race won on the home turn when he shot clear, but he was grabbed on the line by SHOT FROM THE HIP (8). There won’t be much between them once more. FABERARGAS (1) failed to muster enough pace from this alley to hold out MACH TWAIN (4) the other night and then came outside him mid-race when battling on nicely for fourth, beaten a length. He has each way claims. GOLD TARGET (11) chased wide in the last lap when a gallant second to MACH TWAIN (4) and is a strong staying type but will need to be from the extreme draw. Three starts back he ran 1:56.4 to win over the mile at the Valley and as an extremely talented Peter Tonkin trained gelding who may one day follow in the footsteps from horses from this stable like Robin Hood and Safari. He draws a little awkwardly here but is tough enough, and has “miracle worker” Chris Alford in the sulky. VILLAGE WARRIOR (10) won six races last season and made it three wins from five starts this season when coming from last to win a Moonee Valley stand a fortnight ago before having no luck from this very alley when a fast finishing second to KALYPSON KID (8) the other night. He’ll be a worthy rival for the favourite. RUN RILEY RUN (5) sat mid-field in the running line when out-finishing them in the other heat and has each way claims here. Placegetters from that heat LITTLE SONNY BILL (2) and OHOKA GEORGIA (3) are also in the mix from their good draws. LITTLE SONNY BILL (2) had a top record at Moonee Valley late last season and was just in need of the run when second on Tuesday night after handing up, while OHOKA GEORGIA (3) has been a revelation since coming to Mildura, winning three on end and running a big race from the breeze when third in his heat. The Douglas trained pair of RONZEL SQUATTER (4) and HEATHBERN DIAMOND (9) have some chance as well. RATINGS: 8 / 10 / 2, 3 / 4, 9. He’s a tough Glenn Douglas trained nine year old gelding who was a Harold Park winner early last month and comes off tough seconds at Harold Park and in the Cobram Marathon to Doolan Jack, and a luckless unplaced effort in the Warragul Cup last Sunday. This looks a drop in class for him. Local hero YUCATCHIM (7) just failed to qualify for the Mildura Cup final here on Tuesday night when weakening to sixth after a torrid trip outside Smoken Up. Prior to that, he’d flashed home late for fourth in a strong Moonee Valley affair and looks nicely suited against these. Watch for his trademark flying finish. LENNY BROMAC (10), a stablemate of QUANTUM KIWI (5) hasn’t enjoyed the best of luck of late but wasn’t disgraced after a bad beginning and wide trip in the Warragul Cup last weekend and could be the surprise packet. WANDANAS BIG BOOTS (3) has run two nice races since resuming, they being an Echuca placing and close and luckless sixth in a stronger race than this at Bendigo last Sunday. He has early speed and the draw to use it. KING CAESAR (6) has been sparingly raced this time and did show up nicely when placed in a strong Moonee Valley affair back in November. If he found his best form he’d probably win. RATINGS: 5, 7 / 3, 10 / 1, 4. SUGGESTED BET: Flexi box trifecta 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10. $21 gets you 10%. 9.00 Q3 Fr 61.00 MOHICAN PRI. SAMMY MAGUIRE (3) has the excellent record of 11 wins from 19 starts, the most recent of those at the Valley in February. He was first up when flashing home from near the rear after drawing wide when second to SMOKEN UP (11) over the mile at Geelong a fortnight ago, then after losing an early tussle for the lead in his heat here on Tuesday night, was forced to sit outside all the way winner OUR MALABAR (8) and beaten a length. He should be straight in front this time while OUR MALABAR (8) has to contend with the second line draw, but he did look terrific in his win here the other night and is probably a better horse from behind anyway. SMOKEN UP (11) is the best horse in the race but he has the worst barrier. One of the best pacers in the land last season, he’s won four of eight this term, but was off the scene for some time with an injury problem. He wasn’t quite ready to beat the best in the recently completed Inter Dominion series, but certainly wasn’t disgraced in any of his runs there, then returned to beat SAMMY MAGUIRE (3) at Geelong before finding the lead here the other night and slowing them up before sprinting away from BOLD CRUISER (10). Essentially a front of the field horse, he’s sure to roll forward in an attempt to sit outside the leader and it will be “ON” from there. The upset material is evergreen BOLD CRUISER (10), who flashed home late when second here in his heat the other night. He’s a proven big race performer but Daryl Douglas has a task to get him into the finish here from his second line draw. CONTE DE CRISTO (5) and LUV THA ACES LOMBO (7) look best of the others. She made it three wins for the season with an easy Charlton success five starts back, then was placed three times on end, the most recent of those in Saturday night company at the Valley before copping plenty of pressure in the lead before surrendering and finishing fifth at Maryborough ten days ago. She should be straight to the lead on this tighter circuit and whatever beats her will win. LASER EDGE (10) did plenty of work in the final circuit when winning at Ballarat recently, then made late ground for a luckless fifth to Jaydens Castle in a strong Moonee Valley 4YO last time. He draws awkwardly but is the class factor. ROJEN CRUZ (4) came off a wide last lap trail when a handy second to Mighty Shard in fast time at Charlton before leading and pulling too hard after early pressure when he weakened to the rear at Shepparton last time. Driven more conservatively, he can figure in the finish here. NO FANTASY (7) disappointed when knocking up after leading here the other night but will find this easier, and may do better from the trail.
