Herald Sun Form Guide : May 2nd 2009
heraldsun.com.au Caulfield TODAY PROS TALKING Lisa Eskander BOOKMAKER COCINERO(Caul R5 No. 1): Proved last start can handle the 1400m, no problem. Drawn to get all the favours and should prove hard to beat. Rodney Douglas TRAINER VITREOUS (Morph R1 No. 7): Nice horse with good ability. Lack of experience will probably be against, though. FLAWLESSGEM(Morph R3 No. 8): Her last 50m the other day was excellent and she’s screaming for 1600m. She’s a super chance. BOOGALOO(Morph R5 No. 20): She’s a backmarker so the track would want to be playing to swoopers, which it can at Morphettville. HUXSSEN(Morph R6 No. 10): If Takeover Target brings his A-game he’s probably unbeatable. But if he gets softened up, our horse will run home in 22 seconds. LARRY’SNEVERLATE (Morph R7 No. 2): His Victoria Derby run was good last year when not mature enough. This time in he’s handled everything I’ve thrown at him. He beat a good field of open class horses last start. I think with even luck he should win. Robbie Griffiths TRAINER CATSTORM(Caul R1 No. 4): Totally forgive last start. Had horrible luck from the wide barrier. He’ll be competitive here but it’s a tough race and he’s again drawn to do it tough. COCINERO(Caul R5 No. 1): He’s been a marvellous horse for the owners. To come out and win three on end as a seven-year-old has been terrific. No reason why he won’t be there again. HAPPYGLEN(Caul 6 No. 2): Model of consistency and showing no signs of training off. I know Here De Angels should have beaten him last start but that horse can play up a bit at the start. Our bloke puts himself in the firing line, which always gives him a chance. HOT JOCKS It’s the battle of the apprentices today with Jarrad Noske a $3.20 favourite in the TAB Sportsbet Jockey Challenge THE MARKET $3.20 $3.80 $4.80 $8.00 $9.00 $10.00 $13.00 $18.00 Jarrad Noske Brenton Avdulla Nicholas Hall Dwayne Dunn Chris Symons Ibrahim Gundogdu Any other indiv. jockey Stephen Baster Out to make amends: Here De Angels, unlucky last start, contests today’s Toledo Handicap at Caulfield. MIDNIGHT OIL with TIM HABEL TRACK: Dead 4 PENETROMETER: 5.21 RAIL: Out 7m LAST MEETING: Out 4m April 11 LAST TIME OUT 7: March 9 RAINFALL: 26mm for week IRRIGATION: Nil for week RADAR: Clear venturing out to 1400m at Flemington where he raced wide. Better suited back to 1200m here and will be getting home hard. GOLD IN DUBAI (2) chased valiantly behind First Command here last time and will give a good sight again. SUGAR BABE (1) is a classy filly who ran her best race this preparation in an open sprint behind Happy Glen. The concern is she hasn’t won since beating Who- begotyou here in August. BURLY GRIFFEN (3) and TUMBULGUM (7) are other chances. ON-PACERS: Gold In Dubai, Tum- bulgum. 1 SWOOPERS: Sugar Babe, Burly Griffen, Cat Storm. SUGGESTED BET: Cat Storm each- way, quinellas with 1, 2, 3, 7. 2 3 competitive at Group class in the past and comes in below the minimum after the claim and gets a good weight swing on RUNNING RIOT (1) and ORIGAMI MISS (2) for their recent Caulfield clash. DISTINCTIVE LASS (4) has been running on in shorter races and is ready for the 1600m. DONNA ROSSA (7) and BABINGTON (10) graduate from midweek Sandown wins to the stronger Saturday class. ON-PACERS: Britomart, Babington. SWOOPERS: Running Riot, Origami Miss, Distinctive Lass, Bashful Girl, Donna Rossa. SUGGESTED BET: Bashful Girl each-way. returned to form with a strong Moonee Valley win last time. He’s well weighted after the claim and runs in preference to yesterday’s Wagga Cup, as does logical danger DOWN UNDER BOY (2). The firming track suits both. HIGH CEE (1) hasn’t won for more than two years but hit the line strongly in stakes class at Flemington last week and the extra 200m suits. PRINCESS MARIZZA (5) is a wide DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (3) is a former Queensland galloper who won at stakes level and BASHFUL GIRL (5) is a dry- tracker and if she gets a Good 3 is ready to win. She has been CAT STORM (4) twice ran on well behind the very smart First Command at this trip before ran quicker time than the talented open sprinter Secret Flyer. She does rise 6kg, stretches to 1200m and takes on the males but is the one to beat on exposed form. There are three unraced with a big watch on the $2.7 million yearling L’HERITIER (5) a Redoute’s Choice colt with Lee Freedman. TAKE THE RAP (1) chased home Black Caviar at Flemington and can place. QUIETZER (7) improved sharply from her first run to win at Moonee Valley last time. 4 ON-PACERS: Black Caviar. SWOOPERS: Take The Rap, Carrara, Quietzer. SUGGESTED BET: Nil. trouble in the straight when resuming at Moonee Valley. The step to 1400m is ideal and he gets 4.5kg in weight from well performed topweights COCINERO (1) and PINNACLES (2). Cocinero has won his past three and made a mockery of a query on him at 1400m with a soft win at Flemington. Pinnacles was beaten less than two lengths in the Doncaster which is great form for this. He handles all conditions and is sure to go close. SOUND JOURNEY (5) is racing well without winning in this grade. ON-PACERS: Jungle Ruler, Sound Journey. 5 SWOOPERS: Cocinero, Pinnacles, Command Prince, Gold Salute. SUGGESTED BET: Gold Salute each-way. THE BANKERS ON WEIGHTS: DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (R3 No. 3) ON VIDEO: GOLD SALUTE (R5 No. 9) ON POTENTIAL: ROYAL STRIKER (R7 No. 4) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE FOR 34.7%: 1,2,9/1,2,11/2,4/1,2,4,5,6,7,10,13 GOLD SALUTE (9) may be the value runner here. He was untested when he ran into runner suited by the draw and weight drop. The disappointing VILLAIN (6) may be worth another chance with the blinkers on. ON-PACERS: Sermon, Enhancing. SWOOPERS:High Cee, Down Under Boy, Diamondsondinside, Princess Marizza, Villain, Driffield Gold. SUGGESTED BET: Diamondsond- inside each-way. Impossible not to be impressed by the debut win of BLACK CAVIAR (2) at Flemington. She 6 The options here are the ultra reliable HAPPY GLEN (2) or the gifted but enigmatic HERE DE ANGELS (1). Happy Glen is a fool- proof racehorse lining up for his 14th run this preparation. Despite that his form shows no sign of dropping off. He might not be as talented as Here De Angels but you can be guaranteed he will give himself every chance. Here De Angels should have won easily here first-up for Mark Kavanagh except for making a mess of the start. The start will be the key again. EGO’S DARE (11) showed speed and fought on well down the straight behind Imashadow last Sat- urday. MRS WATERS (8) is very quick and while better suited at 1000m will give a good sight. ON-PACERS: Mrs Waters, Ego’s Dare. SWOOPERS: Here De Angels, Happy Glen, Mondano. 7 SUGGESTED BET: Happy Glen straight out, quinellas with 1, 11. control before winning at Moonee Valley after chasing home IAMZEUS (2) at Flemington. Iamzeus has since failed at Flemington and draws wide here. Royal Striker should settle right on the pace and will be hard to hold out. ROCK HOME LATE (3), unbeaten OKUMA (5), maiden AMIMOWEH (7) and MEMORISE (8) all have claims in an open race. ON-PACERS: Royal Striker, No Jurisdiction. SWOOPERS: Iamzeus, Rock Home Late, Memorise. ner. She won an open stakes class event in Adelaide two runs back and although yet to win fresh, she has been competitive in better fields. JOYEUSE (2), CROWN RUBY (4), ROYAL CHARADES (5), BRAZEN HUSSEY (6), RAVISHING REWARD (10), SWISSAC (13) are all chances. Royal Charades is ultra consistent and Mick Price-trained runners are always hard to beat on their home track. 8 ON-PACERS: Joyeuse, Pure Beauty. SWOOPERS: Bella Valentina, Crown Ruby, Royal Charades, Brazen Hus- sey, Ravishing Reward, Swissac. SUGGESTED BET: Bella Valentina each-way. SUGGESTED BET: Royal Striker each-way. Back Larry’s Never Late to win and quinella him with Rebel Raider (1). Matt Stewart PARLAY CAULFIELD (R3 No. 2 into R6 No. 1): Down Under Boy looks a good thing, as does Here De Angels, who was massive first-up. Michael Manley STRAIGHT OUT CAULFIELD (R5 No. 1): Cocinero thrashed his rivals last start at Flemington when he stepped up to 1400m. Should get a perfect run here in a race which lacks speed. Also box him in an exacta with Sound Journey (R5 No. 5). Herald Sun, Saturday, May 2, 2009 41 + www.tab.com.au Nick Quinn RUNNING DOUBLE ADELAIDE (Races 6-7): Take the field in the Goodwood into emerging staying star Larry’s Never Late (2) in the Derby. It will cost $12 for $1 and if Takeover Target is beaten and Larry salutes, it will pay very handsomely.
