The Peter Manning trained ex-Kiwi WILL IT MATTER NZ (2) made it three wins from his last four starts when an easy all the way Nyah winner recently, before going around at Stawell on Thursday. He’s improving all the time, is the likely leader, and will be mighty hard to run down. ALS ROCKET (6) is a lightly raced but injury troubled eight-year-old who has won 12 of 25. He wasn’t far away in four runs earlier this season, the most recent of those a luckless third in the Cobram Cup in late December, and has trialled OK for his return. ISLAND TANGO (5) is in career best form. He was a close third over this trip three starts back then missed away in a stand on this circuit before a close and luckless fourth to Justcallme Cullen here last week. A speedy beginner , he’ll be prominent in the run and looks suited over the trip. SINGASONGASIXPENCE (3) looked in need of the run when a handy fourth at Ballarat last week and will race in a more forward position this time. MR CLANCY NZ (7) has hit a purple patch of late, winning three of his past four starts, the most recent when taken to the breeze and scoring at Geelong last week. He has the ability but the wide alley won’t help his cause. BAY TORRENT (9) was luckless here last week and is racing well enough to have claims, as are KING OF BLING (10) and VILLAGE PUNGEE (11), but from those barriers the’ll need luck. SELECTIONS: WILL IT MATTER NZ (2), Als Rocket (6), Island Tango (5), Singasongasixpence (3) RATINGS: 2 / 3, 5, 6 / 7 / 9, 10, 11 / 4. At his latest start, here in a similar race to this a fortnight ago, he flew out from a wide alley to lead and it was only in the last few metres that he was collared by Kid Coconut in a fast 1:58.7 for this trip. FRANCO NEWSMAN NZ (6) is a high quality colt who ran third in the Tasmanian Derby then was a luckless fifth in the Australian Derby at Launceston, before drawing awkwardly and coming off a wide last lap for third here to Kid Coconut last time. He will probably go to the breeze and sit outside ROWAN DIRECT NZ (2). LIGHTNING MCCOOL (9) is a talented youngster who’s won 14 of 23 and comes off solid Globe Derby wins. He’s raced well at this level in previous visits. OUR ELLAS FELLA NZ (5) has raced four times for three wins, the latest when beating moderates in all the way fashion at Nyah. He’s improving all the time. Best of the others is COASTAL NZ (7), who beat Hung Jury here before failing in the Australian Derby - he draws wide at his first run for five weeks. TALES OF COURAGE (1) and LOT OF LIP (3) have place claims at least. This race looks a dead-set match between last year’s Victoria Derby winner TANABI BROMAC (2) and rising star EM MAGUANE (1). TANABI BROMAC (2) made it six wins for the season when following a Moonee Valley victory with an all the way Kilmore success seven weeks ago, then was just a little too fresh when unable to beat EM MAGUANE (1) at Kilmore last time. He’ll be much fitter for the outing. Former handy juvenile EM MAGUANE (1) didn’t race last season but has come back with a vengeance this term, winning seven of eleven. He followed his defeat of TANABI BROMAC (2) at Kilmore with an impressive standing start victory here a fortnight ago when he outstayed a strong field after missing away and circling them to sit in the breeze. JAYDENS CASTLE (4) has a good record at this level and comes off a victory here and three regulation country wins. He has each way claims along with tough stayer ART TRADER (3), and LASER EDGE (10) and the emergency MAGIC OPERATIVE (11), both of whom have strong sprints if held up for the last run and might be benefit from an early burn. He needed the run but was still too classy when winning his heat of this race from the second line at Mildura a fortnight ago, and this time draws to use his early speed. TEAR IT ALL AWAY (1) is a talented gelding who came from near last, made his run with, and narrowly beat CRUSADERS CASTLE (9) in the Bendigo heat of this race, and they both rate as strong winning chances. OUR SIR JECKYL (6) is an ex-Tasmanian who brilliantly led all the way in fast time in the Shepparton heat before hooking up in a war with the talented Justcallme Cullen here last week, when going under by a head. He’ll certainly let them know he’s around. Each way chances to DOUGIE RAY (4) and another Bendigo heat winner SECRET TENDER (8), while SLEDGING (2) is not out of it either, on an improved effort last time. Barrier draws could decide this race as SOPHIE PASS (1) looks the likely leader from the pole, and top young mare KEPT FOR PLEASURE (8) should trail her. KEPT FOR PLEASURE (8), who was the best of her class as a two and three-year-old, has had a slow start for the current season, but certainly hasn’t been disgraced in recent runs from bad barriers. She was the only runner to make ground when coming from the back for fifth to Wyperfeld in last week’s Vicbred Super Series Final, and this time should get a soft trip and perhaps use the sprint lane. SOPHIE PASS (1) did a power of work in front when a close fourth in that Super Sires Final and is a top mare who rarely runs a bad race - she’s won 10 of 25 this season and did beat a resuming KEPT FOR PLEASURE (8) quite easily in their heat of the Vicbred Series at Ballarat three starts back. JAZZAM (4) beat similar opposition from the breeze here two starts back and came from last on the turn when Jodi Quinlan took some miracle runs to beat a strong field in a day affair nine days ago. She’s racing in great heart. BROADWAY PLAY (7) was having her first run since winning the Terang Cup in February when unplaced in strong FFA company from an awkward second line draw here a fortnight ago. She’s tough and sure to go forward this time. PACIFIC CHARM (5) is next best - she’s in career best form and has won here at her last three starts. IM MARK ANTONY NZ (10) won the Metropolitan Cup in Hobart early last month and finished a luckless fourth to Ohoka Utah in the Easter Cup at Launceston. He hasn’t raced for five weeks but has an excellent record here this season. CHARLEYS DREAM (2) has each way claims on two handy runs from a spell and has the draw. All eyes will be on ex-US four-year-old LONESTAR LEGEND USA (1), who won a heat of the Little Brown Jug at Delaware Ohio three starts back in 1:49.6, before running second in the final on the same day. His latest run was when second to the champion Somebeachsomewhere in 1:47.8 at Lexington and he’s since joined the stable of the Queensland based Cold Mountain Stud. He recently won a Gold Coast trial by a big margin in 1:55.4 and has blistering gate speed, so should be in front from this alley. DIAMONDS N FURS (9) is a short-course specialist. His Inter Dominion mile heat victory over Changeover when wide and running 1:54.6 was a memorable effort and he comes off a tough third when sitting outside SMOKEN UP (7) in the Geelong Rocket, and a close fourth to Changeover in the Len Smith Mile at Menangle in 1:53.4, three weeks ago. It’s not often we leave SMOKEN UP (7) out of our top two picks, and he has an undeniable chance on his outstanding second in the Len Smith Mile when he worked hard and wide to sit outside Changeover and was narrowly beaten. He’s a top horse but the wide draw won’t help him. Upset matrerial are the evergreen BOLD CRUISER (6); MAKE WAVES (4), who resumes; and IN MONACO (5), who did well at the Inter Doiminion and has trialled well since. I DIDN’T DO IT (7) was up there with our best youngsters last season, but has gone to a new level this term with his last start all the way win under FFA conditions here a fortnight ago an outstanding effort, as he pulled hard but still found plenty. Their relative draws bring them together and it should be a great battle. GLUTEUS MAXIMUS (4) completed the hat-trick when beating a gallant SPEEDY NAOMI (9) in their heat of this race at Ballarat a fortnight ago and they look the clear third and fourth picks, with honourable mentions to an improving PUERTO BONUS (3), and the honest WONT BE THE SAME (5) - they quinellaed the Geelong heat last week. BILLY ROYLE (9) has been in great form all season and won three Group races earlier. He was placed from back marks here and in the Warragul Cup, then ran a brave FFA third from the breeze to I Didn’t Do It a fortnight ago. BELEVA (3) sat outside the leader for an impressive victory here two starts back before having no luck from the second line here last time.
