Herald Sun Form Guide : May 23rd 2009
heraldsun.com.au Caulfield TODAY PROS TALKING Rod Cleary BOOKMAKER ALLIEDFORCE(Caul R7 No. 5) Drier track, good barrier, extra fitness and a drop in weight should make him a lot harder to beat here than when presented first-up. Robert Smerdon TRAINER MAKEADREAMCOMETRUE (Caul R1 No. 7):Agood chance. The tempo might be an issue here because there looks to be a lack of speed. DONNAROSSA(Caul R3 No. 2): She’s racing very well at mid-week level and this probably isn’t any stronger than last run. DRIFFIELDGOLD(Caul R5 No. 2): He’s proven to be pretty versatile so if there’s no speed he can go forward. The guess factor is that he’s backing up within seven days. But the outward signs are good. CARNEGIEDAN(Caul R6 No. 17): Circumstances were against him last start when he looked a bit disappointing. He’s got blinkers first time because we always thought he was a blinker horse. TONIC (Caul R8 No. 9): Filly racing well taking on colts for the first time, which will probably test her. But she’s a nice filly. Luke Oliver TRAINER SCENICSCENE(Caul R1 No. 6): I think Rhumb Line will probably lead and run them along a bit. But tempo doesn’t worry us too much. There was no speed last start and he still sprinted too quick. DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (Caul R5 No. 3): This looks a pretty even race and he’s in the mix. HOT JOCKS HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT THE MAIL Tim Habel PARLAY CAULFIELD Race 1 No. 7; Race 5 No. 6; Race 6 No. 3; Race 8 No. 5. Take a formula2,3,4 parlay all to win. For $1 unit costs $11. Matt Stewart STRAIGHT OUT Heavy burden: Brazen Hussey carries 57kg today but has won twice before with that weight. MIDNIGHT OIL with TIM HABEL TRACK: good 3 PENETROMETER: 5.05 RAIL: out 10m LAST MEETING: out 7m May 2 LAST TIME OUT 10: March 28 RAINFALL: nil IRRIGATION: 5mm for week RADAR: clear Sandown mid-weeker last time and last spring was placed behind Scenic Bullet and Raffaello, good enough form for this. He will be suited by the good speed from MISS BADOURA (2) and RHUMB LINE (4). SCENIC SCENE(6) is best suited to soft tracks but continues to race well while stablemate ULYSSES (1) is unlikely to run. COUNT TO ZERO (3) is racing well but yet to win at the trip in nine tries while PACINO (5) ran well first- up but hasn’t won since September 2007. ON PACERS: Miss Badoura, Rhumb Line 1 SWOOPERS: Count To Zero, Paci- no, Scenic Scene, Makeadreamco- metrue SUGGESTED BET: Makedreamco- metrue straight out Steven King only has four rides but they are all very good. If Shocking and Bashful Girl can salute then expect him to be very hard to beat and at the juicy odds of $9 in the TAB Jockey Challenge THE MARKET $2.25 $3.60 $4.40 $9.00 $12.00 $14.00 $26.00 $41.00 Nicholas Hall Dwayne Dunn Glen Boss Steven King Any other indiv. jockey Jason Benbow Michelle Payne Chris Symons unnraced in leading stables. The key runners could be the first starters to trial. Mick Price’s YOAKAM (4) and Peter Moody’s NEVERIN (3) showed good speed, while Moody’s OCEAN DREAM (10) sat back and wide and ran on well to win. WALLINGER (1) carries the same weight he scored with at Flemington in a game effort last time. HASTA PRONTO (2) has run on well to place at both his Sydney starts. QUEEN OEDIPUS (5) will be strong at the finsh, She is a last-start Sandown 1200m winner and has run over 1400m. ON PACERS: Wallinger, Neverin, Yoakam 2 SWOOPERS: Hasta Pronto, Queen Oedipus, Ocean Dream SUGGESTED BET: Nil 3 suit and she will appreciate the return to mares grade. DONNA ROSSA (2) won a mid-weeker at Sandown with 57kg last time and looks well suited again. LADARI (5) is in career-best form after two good provincial wins but all her wins to date have been on rain-affected ground. ORIGAMI MISS (1) is ready to improve as the distances increase. ON PACERS: Britomart BASHFUL GIRL (3) is consis- tent without winning but gets her chance here. The firm track will INTRIGUING youngsters race with Melbourne and Sydney formlines and three well-bred but SMALL field but at least five chances. MAKEADREAMCOM- TRUE (7) impressively won a SWOOPERS: Origami Miss, Donna Rossa, Bashful Girl, Ladari SUGGESTED BET: Quinellas 2, 3 4 SPECIALIST first-upper LA GOULUE (5) resumes again here. She easily won a Moonee Valley 1000m race after a 160-day break last August and comes off a 161-day break here. BRAZEN HUS- SEY (1) has never raced better since reverting to her original on-pace role. She has 57kg but has twice won with that weight. LALETTA (2), WHITE- HAVEN GIRL (3), DISTINCTIVE LASS (4), GOLDFIELD ASHES (6) can all figure in the placings. ON PACERS: Brazen Hussey, La Goulue SWOOPERS: Laletta, Whitehaven Girl, Distinctive Lass, Goldfield Ashes SUGGESTED BET: La Goulue straight out 5 MOMENT IN TIME (6) is a classy South Australian mare who has been running on well at the finish of shorter races in Adelaide. She will relish the step up to 2000m and the firm ground, and the 50.5kg after the claim is by far the lightest weight she’s carried in her career. The 6kg pull in the weights over favourite DRIFFIELD GOLD (2) gives her every chance. Driffield Gold is on a seven-day back-up after a game win at Flemington last week when he led. Today should be able to slot in behind SIR SKALAHAD (5) and BANGERANG QUIKPIC (8) who are in-form and like to lead. DIAMOND- SONDINSIDE (3) is racing consis- tently as is veteran OUR SMOKING JOE (1), who is back in distance after his game second in the Warrnambool Cup. ON PACERS: Sir Skalahad, Banger- ang Quikpic SWOOPERS: Our Smoking Joe, Driffied Gold, Diamondsondinside, Poised To Win, Moment In Time SUGGESTED BET: Moment In Time straight out, quinella with 2 THE BANKERS ON FORMLINE: MAKEADREAMCOMETRUE (Race 1 No 7) ON WEIGHTS: MOMENT IN TIME (Race 5 No 6) ON POTENTIAL: THORN LAKE (Race 8 No 5) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE FOR 156.2%: 2, 6/1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9/1, 7/5 6 SHOCKING (3) gives every indi- cation he’s looking for 2000m the way he charged home late to win at Flemington last week. Before that he just failed to reel in the improving AWIMOWEH (2) who had all the breaks from an inside draw. There are a host of chances for the minor placings. THE TIGER (1) could be the big improver. He was terrible at Flemington when a change of riding tactics saw him ridden off the pace before wilting badly. He runs his best races bowling along in front and the blinkers go back on. AIGLON (8) is very consistent without winning. He’s an on-pacer who will give a great sight again from an inside draw. ON PACERS: The Tiger, Aiglon SWOOPERS: Awimoweh, Shocking, From The Terrace, Miles Above, Quite Famous, Macedonian SUGGESTED BET: Shocking straight out 7 TETSU GAMA (7) has been freshened since some top runs in the autumn including an un- lucky second in the Hareeeba. First- up last time in work he beat all but Happy Glen in a 0-72 at Moe. IMMORTALITY (1) is good fresh and with the claim looks well graded. UNCLE IVAN (9) is racing extra well and has been run down by Bocuse and Maxisun at his past two and they are both running in a Listed race at Doomben today. MONDANO (6) is forever running on and although he doesn’t win out of turn this is his best trip. ON PACERS: Allied Force, Johnny Fiasco, Uncle Ivan SWOOPERS: Immortality, Mondano, Tetsu Gama SUGGESTED BET: Tetsu Gama each-way 8 THORN LAKE (5) looks a Group horse of the future. He has a powerful finishing sprint and the step from 1000m to 1200m looks ideal. The double figure barrier draw suits but despite his potential this will be no pushover. TEMPEST TOST (1) is a quality filly and although taking on the males will run well after a game first-up run. TONIC (9) ran second in the same race in a tight finish. TRUSTUS (2) is back in distance but racing well. GOLD IN DUBAI (3) can improve and SOL BRILLANTE (6) and SWIFT BAY (7) looked promising over summer before a break. Both have won fresh. ON PACERS: Tempest Tost, Gold In Dubai SWOOPERS: Trustus, Burley Grif- fen, Thorn Lake, Sol Brillante, Swift Bay, Tonic SUGGESTED BET: Thorn Lake straight out CAULFIELD (Race 8 No. 5): THORNLAKE. Probably the first of the Thorn Parks to show something like his electric turn of foot. Looks a Group horse in the making and should have too much firepower for these. Adam Hamilton WIN BETS Keen to spread the load between two codes today. Have a crack at the very excitingTHORNLAKE (Caulfield Race 8, No.5) today. Save the rest of your bank forFOR AREASON(Albion Park Race 6, No.11) tonight. Michael Manley PARLAY/QUADDIE CAULFIELD There looks to be a stand-out selection in each of the last four races at Caulfield - DRIFFIELDGOLD(Race 5, No.2), SHOCKING(Race 6, No.3), TETSUGAMA(Race 7, No.7) and THORNLAKE(Race 8, No.5). Driffield Gold and Thorn Lake look the best. Take a Formula 2, 3 and 4 bet coupling the four. Obviously these races also coincide with the Quaddie so you can anchor these in flexi quaddies.
