He trails out the early speed, will be fitter and looks hardest to beat. WAIONA NZ (1) is a lightly raced four year old who’s won 8 of 22. A Warragul death seat winner in March, he went for a short break after a solid fourth here, then led when cut down late at his most recent start, at Bendigo a fortnight ago. He looks well suited from the pole. GLORIA LOMBO (8) has been racing well this time in and deserves a victory – she won six races last term but hasn’t saluted in ten starts this time in. An impressive effort when third to Gilt Bromac here two starts back, when making two moves, was followed by a luckless unplaced effort when badly checked in the home straight here last week. TEAR IT ALL AWAY (12) won a heat of the Super Sires at Bendigo, then finished third to stablemate Secret Tender in the Semi-final before finding the awkward draw against him when close up in last week’s Final. In an open race every runner can win. Ratings: 9 / 1 / 8 / 12 / 2, 7 / 4 / 3, 6, 10, 11. A late blooming five year old, she comes off a hat trick of victories (all at Bendigo) and has shown good speed from the tapes at her last two efforts when leading all the way. GLUTEUS MAXIMUS (1) is a handy four year old who’s won 10 of 27. She completed the hat trick with a tough win over SPEEDY NAOMI (9) in a Super Sires heat at Ballarat two starts back before sitting in the breeze when a distant but gallant third in the final to I Didnt Do It. ERINGA BELLE (11) has done well against the boys this season and looks nicely suited against her own sex. She ran on nicely from a 30 metre back mark when fifth to MAORI SUNSHINE (4) at Bendigo last time and meets her on 20 metres better terms for a nine metre defeat. Evergreen mare FALSE GEM (10) caught the eye at her second run back when storming home from last for second to Joe Bro here a fortnight ago and has each way claims. Ratings: 4 / 1 / 10, 11 / 3, 8, 9. His excellent second to Changeover in the Len Smith at Menangle, when doing all the work and narrowly beaten in 1:53.4, was followed by his tough 1:54.7 mile success here a fortnight ago where he again was forced to work hard early. He looks even better suited this time over the longer trip, and whatever beats him will win. DIAMONDS N FURS NZ (7) followed his close fourth in that Menangle affair with a brave second here last time over the mile to SMOKEN UP NZ (5) where he was wide most of the way and nosed out in the closing stages. BOLD CRUISER NZ (3) ran third in that mile race, continuing on his excellent and consistent form this season. He draws better than his two major rivals and is always a chance at this level. The query runner is IM MARK ANTONY NZ (4), who won a strong FFA in Hobart in April, then ran fourth in the Easter Cup at Launceston before making late ground for fifth here a fortnight ago at his first run for five weeks. KARLSRUHE (1) looked a star in the making last season but has struggled this term. He hasn’t been suited in stands recently and resumes from a good alley – don’t be surprised if he’s in the finish. VILLAGE OF DREAMS (2) ran second at Kilmore to GARNET RIVER (11), then second to him in the Tasmanian Derby before flashing home along the pegs to blouse Living On Fire in the Australian Derby at Launceston early last month. He was having his first run for six weeks when an odds- on favourite and sitting mid-field when unable to cut down Villagem in a 56.1 last half in a Bendigo heat of this race last weekend. That was from the second line and he draws to be in or on the lead this time – whichever way, he’s the one to beat. GARNET RIVER (11) has been outstanding as both a juvenile and this season as a three year old. After beating VILLAGE OF DREAMS (2) in the Tasmanian Derby, he had no luck when fourth to him the Australian Derby, then led all the way for a regulation victory in a Cranbourne restricted affair before getting involved in a war with Living On Fire when outstayed by him in their heat of this race at Yarra Valley where they rated 1:57.7 and finished off in 56.3. The draw is awkward but this fellow is just as good from behind, and with a solid pace up front he can run by them. Each way chances to INDIGO BAY (1), a Derby placegetter early this season; KALAHARI PRINCE (5), who’s racing in career best form; PRESIDENTIAL LANE (7), who ran second to Captain Joy in the NSW Derby before winning his heat of this race at Yarra Valley; and STAGHORN FLAT (9), who followed his Australian Derby third with a solid Bendigo heat victory of this race. Oaks last month, then sat in the breeze to win both her Heat and Semi-final of this series – she rated 1:58.5 to outstay KISSMECATIE (8) last week. From the draw she’ll have to earn it, but is extremely tough and certainly the one to beat. QUEEN OF FIRE (2) has only raced eight times and brought up her fourth win when out-finishing KISSMECATIE (8) to win a Heat of the Vic Oaks at Ballarat before sitting wide in the Final. He heat and Semi-final placings in this series have been good efforts from awkward draws and she looks nicely suited this time from an inside alley. SHEZ RYLEYMAK (5) won the two year old version of this Series last season and looks to be peaking for this. She won her sixth race for the season when leading all the way in Hobart a fortnight ago, then was desperately unlucky from her second line draw when flashing home to beat all but LIFE INTHEFASTLANE (9) in her Semi-final here last week. KISSMECATIE (8) is a tough and talented filly who made two moves and fought on well when second last week and she has strong each way claims as she’ll get a soft trip from this trailing draw. Chances also to last week’s Semi winner LIFE INTHEFASTLANE (9), along with KEPPEL BAY (6), who can win this with the right trip, and PARIS ANGEL (3), ditto. Ratings: 10 / 2, 5 / 8 / 9 / 3, 6 / 11. There isn’t much standing start experience for most of them and that’s why MESMERIZING (6), who ran second in this race last season and has a great record from behind the tapes, is the one to beat. She was resuming from a break when flashing home from the rear for second to PACIFIC CHARM (11) here a fortnight ago, will be fitter and has an excellent chance of finding the front this time. PACIFIC CHARM (11) has won at her latest four starts. She followed a victory here over VERY CHIC NZ (7) a month ago with a solid all the way success against many of these mares in the Cinderella Stakes here last time and it should be noted that she was placed in her only try from the stand. Top Sydney mare LADY LEXUS (13), who’s won 11 of 22, was narrowly beaten after sitting in the breeze over the mile here last week and rates well along with LUCKY ELSIE (10), who won the standing start Hamilton Cup earlier this season and was luckless last week. FLAMIN YOMAX (1) finished third in this race last season and wasn’t far away behind JAZZAM (5) in the mile mobile Ladyship Cup here last week where she came from the second line and is also in contention along with CHRISTIAN MELODY (3), who’s never started from the stand is an improving type. Last week’s winner JAZZAM (5), who similarly has never started from behind the tapes is the other main winning chance. Ratings: 6 / 11, 13 / 1, 5, 10 / 3 / 2, 4, 7 / 8, 9. With the barrier draw in her favour, ROTKARA STELLA (2) may be the one to beat. She led all the way and rated 1:59.3 (58.1 home) to win by 25 metres at Bendigo a fortnight ago, then was badly held up in an accident marred heat of this race at Geelong last week when third to LOVING LIFE LOMBO (6). ROCKNROLLA (11) has raced six times for five wins with her only defeat when caught wide and third in the APG final here a month ago. She’s since led all the way to beat top colt Modern Warrior on this circuit, then was untroubled in her 16 metre all the way heat victory of this race at Geelong but with her main rival drawn to lead, she’ll have to put up a tough performance to win from this extreme alley. Her stablemate OUR SURFER GIRL (6) is also a handy youngster who fought on well in her come-from-behind Ballarat victory before sitting in the breeze to win in slow time in her heat. She has an excellent each way chance. MODERN GIRL (9) won five of her first six starts before looking to have every chance when a close second in the APG final, then ran a shocker in her heat at Geelong where she led, went slowly and weakened to miss a place. She’s better than that and may be suited from the trail this time. ART SHADOW (1) has place claims at least. Ratings: 2 / 11 / 6 / 9 / 1. It was a totally different horse that went around in the Yarra Valley heat eleven days ago where he sat outside Garnet River and out-stayed that fellow with a 56.3 last half. If he runs up to that effort, he’ll win. VILLAGEM (1) is developing into a top-liner. He won his first race for the season when leading, rating 1:57.6 and finishing off in 56.1 to beat Village Of Dreams in the Bendigo heat of this series last weekend and has a great chance again from this alley. HILTON FLY HIGH (9) sat outside Presidential Lane when second to him at Yarra Valley last time and is a talented colt who can run by these favourites if they work hard early. ALBERT JACCKA (10) ran a brave fourth to Smoken Up in 1:54.7 for this trip here a fortnight ago, then did plenty of work when a close second to Mister Clancy in 1:56.7 at Geelong last week. MAKE WAVES (11) has won three races here this season and resumed from a spell with a luckless fifth to Smoken Up before not having much go his way in a hot race at Bendigo last weekend. TOTALLY ORO (3) is a speedy mare who grows a leg when in front. She led all the way to beat Gilt Bromac here early last month and hasn’t had much go her way in four runs since. CAPTIAN CULLEN NZ (8) is as good as any of these but he looked awful when unplaced here last week and must be taken on trust.
