A win and a couple of placings in a recent Tasmanian visit were followed by a solid fourth in fast time to stablemate Gypsy Franco at Cranbourne last Sunday where he settled last before circling them to find the breeze, fighting on well to be beaten just over a length. SMOOTH HAYLEY (6) finished fifth in a strong Moonee Valley affair to Gilt Bromac two starts back, then ran a bold race for third to Ohoka Georgia at Mildura last time. She looks well graded on her improved recent form. SPIRIT OF TETRARCH NZ (10) impressed when doing all the work outside the leader and winning at Kilmore early this month, then had no luck after a tough trip in a strong Valley daytime affair before coming from the rear and hitting the front in the home straight when cut down late by CCs Lover at Shepparton nine days ago. That trio rate clearly ahead of MISTER CLINTON NZ (9), who had the run of the race when winning similar to this at Ballarat before a handy effort there in strong company ten days ago when luckless. WILLABBY JACK (3) is a one paced old timer who draws to have each way claims along with BECKY CEE (5), who sat in the breeze when second at Ballarat last time to MISTER CLINTON NZ (9). The query runner is MAGIC SPARK (7), who’s won 9 of 40 with 11 placings, but hasn’t fired in eight starts since a Warragul victory this time last year. RATINGS: 8 / 6, 10 / 9 / 3 / 5, 7? She looks nicely suited from another good draw. PRETTY IN LACE (3) has only raced four times for two Ballarat seconds, the latest of those there ten days ago where she was wide early, then sat outside all the way winner Final Request and fought on well. IDEAL NAVIGATOR (7) was a surprise Maryborough winner a month ago, then didn’t fire at her next two starts before a battling fifth from an awkward draw at Kilmore a fortnight ago. She has each way claims along with VEEJAYRIFIC (4), who worked hard early, then took a trail and was close up when fourth at Terang during the week. IDEAL NAVIGATOR (7) is another with claims – she sat in the breeze when second in a low grade Ballarat race last time and will be improved by three runs from a spell. JUSTA JEM LOMBO (2) had no form before going around at Ballarat on Thursday at her first start for Geoff Webster. RATINGS: 1 / 3 / 4, 6, 7 / 2? She’ll be further improved by that experience and looks a likely type. CARLETONHILL (8) was placed twice at Maryborough before showing early speed and battling on evenly for a mid-field finish to Conaroyal in the Super Sires final at the Valley three weeks ago. He went around at Maryborough on Thursday. PRINCE OF ALL (9) made if 4 wins from 19 starts when coming out of the one-one and outbattling them at Shepparton nine days ago and he looks a strong winning chance. MISTER MALAKYE (1) is working up to a win and draws to break his maiden status. He led from the gate when second to Our Solar Flare at Horsham three starts back, then found trouble at Kilmore before taking a sit behind Down Under Muscles and pulling too hard when a battling distant third to that fellow at Cranbourne last Sunday. He’ll give plenty of cheek from the pole. Best of the others is MY GIRL SUNNY (3), who failed on debut at Shepparton in January but wasn’t far away when a close third to ALDEBARAN DREAM NZ (5) at Ballarat last time when held up at a vital stage. RAYLEIGH DANCER (6) has ability but is yet to trot all the way in four race starts. RATINGS: 5 / 1, 8, 9 / 3 / 6. SUGGESTED BET: ALDEBARAN DREAM NZ (5) to win. He’s raced six times, all this season, for three wins and two placings and comes off a tough Moonee Valley fourth to Lightning McCool and a solid second at Bendigo last weekend where he worked hard mid-race to find the lead and was cut down late by the talented Im Outtahere in a 28.3 last split. His main danger is handy filly KEEPERS DAUGHTER (9), who’s also won three races this term, the most recent of those when coming from the rear and out-staying Allegra at Ballarat ten days ago. As one of only two trailers, she’ll be sitting just off the pace and is sure to produce a solid finishing effort. BYETHELOT (7) has raced five times spanned over the last two years, for three wins. A dual winner as a three year old, the latter of those beating the talented No More Secrets, he didn’t race as a four year old, then resumed with an excellent first up third when finding trouble at Shepparton early last month, then after a break of five weeks came from the rear and out-stayed a moderate lot to score convincingly at Echuca three weeks ago. That trio should dominate the race with the upset material being JEWEL OF MANWARRA (3), a recent Maryborough placegetter who made good late ground when fourth there at his latest start. An impressive Moonee Valley 3YO Saturday night winner over Hung Jury early last month, he didn’t have much luck when unplaced in the Australian Derby at Launceston after that, then resumed with a strong fifth in three year old company at the Valley to Lightning McCool a fortnight ago where he flew out but took some time to find the lead, then took a sit and was locked away to be beaten just over a length. There’s some gate speed on his inside but he should eventually work his way to the lead and they probably won’t run him down over the sprint trip. VICTREOS (1) has raced well without winning recently. He did plenty to find the lead when cut down late in fast time by Mohican Prince at Bendigo three starts back, then was wide in the last lap when a close third here to Amadmancomesundone before finding trouble at Ararat last time. He has gate speed and will certainly be in the contest for the early lead. ISLAND STORM (3) is racing in career best form. He’s won three of his latest seven starts and looked good when third to Vintage Jag at Shepparton nine days ago where he flashed home late from an impossible peg position. He has gate speed and can do it tough if need be. Talented youngster KID COCONUT (10) looks the other winning chance. One of our best juveniles last season, he’s won four of ten this term and although not quite reaching the heights expected of him this season, looks nicely suited against these. A Yarra Valley death seat win was followed by a 1:58.7 Moonee Valley Friday night three year old success, then he galloped after the start in a Super Sires heat here. Eased to the rear in another heat of that series at Bendigo last weekend, he was unable to make an impression in a fast last split, then didn’t put much heart into his finish. Expect better this time. THE SYSTEM STAR (8) is the roughie with some chance - he finished well when fourth to Amadmancomesundone here before a battling fourth at Cranbourne last week. RATINGS: 6 / 1 / 3, 10. SUGGESTED BET: Key trifecta 6 to win, with 1, 3, 8, 10 in the placings. M1/C3 - Class of race (one metro win/three career wins). RBD - Random barrier draw. He’s won seven of his nine starts, the last four on end, and comes off back-to-back all the way Moonee Valley victories, winning clearly in both of them. A fast beginner who goes back to 20 metres this time, he should be past many of these when they settle but will have to earn victory this time as he’s unlikely to find the lead. LORD OF THE GYM (7) is a highly talented four year old who’s won 14 of 22 including two Trotters Derbys, the Redwood, Tatlow and a second in the Victoria Derby. Since resuming he won a heat and ran second to I Didnt Do It in the recently completed 4YO Super Sires series, will be fitter for those runs and importantly, is the winner of three of his four standing start tries. CRESCENT GLORY (6) had outstanding three and four year old seasons, winning 11 races, but has only scored once (Moonee Valley in December) from twelve tries this season. He resumes off an excellent Terang trial victory over the pacers (last mile 2:01.1) and a second there to the handy Jilliby Prince at the trials last weekend. KYVALLEY MAC NZ (9) won at Kilmore and Bendigo, then ran fourth when giving JOE BRO (8) 20 metres start (beaten 13 metres) at Maryborough, before putting up a huge performance for second to stablemate Karamboo in the Wangaratta Trotters Cup at Shepparton nine days ago where he gave them a big start and fought on strongly. OLLIE NOVA NZ (2) is a talented ex-Kiwi who ran second from the breeze at Maryborough to Skyvalley, then weakened to sixth after sitting outside JOE BRO (8) at the Valley before a tough back mark Stawell victory. He began badly and was never a factor in that Trotters Cup at Shepparton last time. CILLAS EARL NZ (4) has been placed in both runs since resuming, the most recent of those when battling on well for third at the Valley last weekend to Skyvalley. CEDRIC SLICK (1) and LOOK HERE BLOKE (3) are worth throwing into trifectas. RATINGS: 8 / 7 / 6? 9 / 2 / 4 / 1, 3. DILINGER GIRL (4) is a 16 time winner who hasn’t saluted in 21 tries this season but has run some good races in strong fields at Moonee Valley. She was resuming from a break when making late ground for sixth in a hot Bendigo affair last weekend and that should top her off nicely for this winnable affair. TRANQUIL ODYSSEY (5) battled on solidly for third in fast time to stablemate Barachias at Shepparton before flashing home from four back the pegs when third to Crafty Dennis at the Valley last weekend. She hasn’t won from 31 starts this season (10 placings) but is certainly close to a breakthrough. TWIRLING (3) is a talented mare who resumed with a luckless unplaced effort from the stand at the Valley last week where she was badly held up. She has gate speed and is sure to be prominent. TOBERMORAY NZ (7) did plenty of work when an impressive first up Maryborough winner a month ago but only battled from four back the pegs when fifth to Just Call Me Cullen there at his latest run. He draws wide but if he can grab a spot just off the pace, has claims. Best of the others is HEATHBERN DIAMOND (6), who’s won seven races this season, the latest of those at Harold Park early last month. He sat in the breeze when second to Maffioso in a Super Sires heat at Mildura two starts back before dropping out after sitting behind the leader in his Semi-final at the Valley a fortnight ago. Give him another chance. RATINGS: 4 / 3, 5 / 6? 7 / 1, 2, 9. Clearly the top pick is CHRISTIAN SHADOW (3), a handy David Murphy three year old colt who’s won twice this season and comes off a luckless second over the sprint trip at Horsham and a handy sixth to Wreck Tangles in a 1:57.2 Super Sires heat at Bendigo last weekend. ALLEGRA (2) is a handy filly who won her second race for the season in all the way fashion here three starts back, then was lucklessly unplaced in a Super Sires heat there before working hard in the breeze and leading on the home turn when cut down late by Keepers Daughter at Ballarat last week. UNAPPROACHABLE (1) was having her second race start when she came out of the trail and battled on okay for third in that same race and from the pole, has claims. ZIDANNE (5) is a tough gelding who’s only won one of 25 but has run some big races against some good horses in recent times. Placings behind Im Outtahere and Amadmancomesundone were followed by close fourths here and at Moonee Valley, and a second here at the latest meeting to Flying Indi Air, where he led and was cut down late by that talented youngster.
