Herald Sun Form Guide : June 6th 2009
heraldsun.com.au Flemington TODAY PROS TALKING Rod Cleary BOOKMAKER MAKEADREAMCOMETRUE (Flem R7 No. 2): Keeps winning and no reason why he won’t do it again here. Has a good alley and not badly weighted. Moral. Robert Smerdon TRAINER STONEBLACK(Flem R3 No. 3): Extremely consistent gelding who thrives on racing. He’s sure to be right in the mix again. MAKEADREAMCOMETRUE (Flem R7 No. 2): He ticks all the boxes. He’s racing extremely consistently and no reason why he won’t be in the thick of things again. MARVEEN(EF R8 No. 15): She’s never been on a real heavy track but she’s American-bred and most of them handle the soft tracks. She has an economical action so I’m guessing she’ll handle it. Rod Douglas TRAINER BOOGALOO(Flem R5 No. 7): She’s against the colts but she goes well with her races spaced and has been placed behind Typhoon Tracy and Kirvinsky. BEQUESTS(Flem R5 No. 10): She’s no slouch. She’s up in class but probably should be unbeaten, she missed the start at her first start. BOCUSE(EF R3 No. 9): I was thinking the 1000m might be too short but with the bog track it’s going to be a slog. LARRY’SNEVERLATE (EF R6 No. 4): At least we’ve been able to gallop him atWadhamPark on Sunday and Wednesday. This is his chance to win a big one, he loves the wet and just needs to be saved for one run. HOT JOCKS Ready to salute: Gold Salute has struck top form and will be hard to beat in the Winter Championship heat. TRACK: Dead 4 PENETROMETER: 4.65 Inside: 4.63, outside 4.59 RAIL: Out 6m LAST MEETING: Out 3m LAST TIME OUT 6m: January 1 RAINFALL: 4.2mm for week IRRIGATION: Nil for week RADAR: Rain developing 1 MIDNIGHT OIL 4 with TIM HABEL INTRIGUING two-year-old with a mix of in-form runners, sum- mer form and seven unraced, so a definite market watch. GIBRALTAR MOON (1) has won her past three in the city so she’s entitled to be rated highly. BE THAT AS IT MAY (2) resumes and showed good ability over summer with Adelaide and Caulfield wins. Of the unraced FIVE- STAR LASS (5), KEELEY HAZEL (7), MASAI MISS (8) and PIECE OF CLASS (9) have won trials. ON-PACERS: Insufficient exposed form. SWOOPERS: Insufficient exposed form. 2 SUGGESTED BET: Nil. time after having no luck in stakes class in Adelaide but blinkers go on so she can lift. CHORTOVA(1) backs up from a battling effort at Sandown on Wednesday. She is a 1600m winner here. KOMACHI (4) has consistent Sandown midweek form, the rest are country performers with STATUS SYMBOL (6) open to the most improvement. ON-PACERS: Canny Groove, Ma- dam Melba. SWOOPERS: Chortova, Arms Wide Open, Komachi, Status Symbol. 3 DEANHolland looks good value at $26 for today’s TAB Sportsbet Jockey Challenge at Flemington. Holland is in form after landing a double at Flemington last week. THE MARKET $3.20 $3.60 $3.60 $6.00 $11.00 $11.00 $26.00 $31.00 Steven King Ibrahim Gundogdu Mark Zahra Any other indiv. jockey Ben Melham Chris Symons Dean Holland Peter Mertens SUGGESTEDBET: Arms Wide Open straight out, quinellas with 1, 4, 6. the turn but powered home in the fastest last 400m and 200m in a race suiting the on-pacers. The extra 200m and big track are made to order and she runs here in preference to Ade- laide. QUEEN OEDIPUS (1) is in great form and showed grit to edge out ITALIAN MACHINE (4) last time. She can box-seat from the good draw. STONEBLACK (3) is a tough gelding who is back 200m but sure to be running on. GARDNER (11) won well at Sandown but draws out here. ON-PACERS: Italian Machine, Gard- ner. SWOOPERS: Queen Oedipus, Gau- teng, Stoneblack, Morrison, Ocean Dream. SUGGESTED BET: Ocean Dream straight out. OCEANDREAM(14) caught the eye with her debut run at Caul- field. She was wide and last on ARMS WIDE OPEN (2) will not strike a weaker Saturday grade race. She struggled here last Queensland Derby favourite Shock- ing at Caulfield last time. He’s an emerging stayer who beat home most of his rivals here last time. CARD SHARP (5) beat older horses in Adelaide last Saturday and with the claim stays down in the weights. AIGLON (6) draws well again and will be in the firing line for a long way. SPONTANEOUS (8) didn’t go around a horse but ran on well behind Shocking and Awimoweh. ON-PACERS: Miles Above, Aiglon. SWOOPERS: Tuscany View, The Tiger, Awimoweh, Card Sharp, Spon- taneous. 5 SUGGESTED BET: Awimoweh each-way. 6 smart Kirvinsky down the straight and her last start third to Burgeis in Adelaide stakes class is good form for this. GOLD IN DUBAI (1), TRUSTUS (2) and SWIFT BAY (4) meet again after placing at Caulfield a fortnight ago. All three are genuine threats. SOL BRILLANTE (3) is a first-up straight winner and resumes again. GLAM SLAM (8) battled on gamely here last week against fillies at her first run for Danny O’Brien. This is harder. BEQUESTS (10) is an on- pacer up in class but is promising. ON-PACERS: Gold In Dubai, Be- quests, Folau. SWOOPERS: Trustus, Sol Brillante, Swift Bay, Boogaloo, Glam Slam, Pachanga. SUGGESTED BET: Boogaloo each- way and responded with a strong win over De Mars, who has since won the Mildura Cup. Provided he gets cover from his wide draw he’s the one to beat again. Former Kiwi BENELLI (10) caught the eye coming from last to run fifth down the straight in stakes class at his Australian debut. He’s won four of nine at the trip in NZ. Other chances include FAMOUS THE BANKERS ON VIDEO: OCEAN DREAM (Race 3 No.14) MOMENT IN TIME (Race 8 No.4) ON FORM: MAKEADREAMCOMETRUE (Race 7 No.2) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE for 71.4%: 1,2,3,4,7/ 2,4,6,8,10,14,15/ 1,2/ 4 AFTER two luckless runs GOLD SALUTE (8) finally had an unim- peded run here a fortnight ago BOOGALOO (7) is a filly against the boys but goes well with a break. She has a second to the AWIMOWEH (3) covered extra ground and was still boxing on strongly when chasing today’s ROMAN (3) who can improve on his first-up run with the blinkers back on, PLAYWRIGHT (4) despite his wide draw, Sydney visitor TESTIMONIAL (6), MONSIEUR FERAUD (14) who should lead and the consistentNOTA COPY (15). ON-PACERS: Stormhill, Monsieur Feraud. SWOOPERS: Famous Roman, Play- wright, Testimonial, Gold Salute, Benelli. SUGGESTED BET: Gold Salute each-way. 7 HARD to go past MAKE- ADREAMCOMETRUE (2). His form since joining Robert Smer- don’s yard has been first class and he meets similar opposition here. South Australian visitor ROAD WORKER (1) is a good galloper back to his best with successive Adelaide wins. He can race handy from the inside draw and is a proven weight carrier with a Morphettville win under 59.5kg. PACINO (4) chased home Makea- dreamcometrue at Caulfield and can place again. BASHFUL GIRL (5) is up to open class after a mares win, but provided the rain stays away she’ll run well. ON-PACERS: Jamberoo, Sir Walter. SWOOPERS: Road Worker, Make- adreamcometrue, Pacino, Bashful Girl, Whiskey Cruyff. SUGGESTED BET: Makeadream- cometrue to win, exacta 2 from 1. 8 THE promise of good speed from RHUMB LINE (5) and BANGERANG QUICKPIC (7) should set this race up for MOMENT IN TIME (4). She was shuffled back at a vital time then ran on strongly to just fail to beat the winter find, Driffield Gold, at Caulfield. She needs the rain to stay away as all her wins have been on firm ground. THE FONZ (9) ran home the fastest sectionals over 1600m here last week. He has struggled at the 2000m in the past but is racing as though he is looking for more ground. ELECTRONIC MIL- LION (3) is a tough on-pacer who can do it tough and still be in the finish. LIFE TO THE FULL (1) is a smart galloper racing well but will find it tough to concede weight to some smart gallopers at his first 2000m run. ON-PACERS: Rhumb Line, Banger- ang Quickpic. SWOOPERS: Life To The Full, Mo- ment In Time, The Fonz. SUGGESTED BET: Moment In Time straight out, quinellas with 1, 9. The BIG6 will operate on the following meetings. Flemington / Eagle Farm gallops: Leg 1: Flem. Race 4: 1.45. Leg 2: Flem. Race 5: 2.25. Leg 3: E. Farm Race 5: 2.38. Leg 4: Flem. Race 6: 3.10. Leg 5: Flem. Race 7: 3.50. Leg 6: Flem. Race 8: 4.26. The Meadows greyhounds: Leg 1: Race 4: 8.15. Leg 2: Race 5: 8.35. Leg 3: Race 6: 8.57. Leg 4: Race 7: 9.20. Leg 5: Race 8: 9.42. Leg 6: Race 9: 10.05. GUEST TIPSTER Rod Johnson Former VRC Secretary Race4Flemington No.2 The Tiger Race6Flemington No.8 Gold Salute + HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT THE MAIL Tim Habel EXACTA FLEMINGTON (Race 7): Take Makeadreamcometrue to beat the topweight, good Adelaide galloper Road Worker. In a race of little depth they look standouts. Matt Stewart RUNNING DOUBLE FLEMINGTON (R7 No.2 and R8 No.4): The two safest bets appear to be Makeadreamcometrue and Moment In Time. Get some value out of them by having a crack at the running double. It should pay about $12. Michael Manley EACH-WAY/EXACTA EAGLEFARM(Race 5 No. 14): Something Anything in the Stradbroke Handicap appeals as a nice each-way value bet. Likes it wet and comes in nicely on the weights. Also take a boxed exacta in the Stradbroke: 4, 5, 13, 14, 20. Nick Quinn DAILY DOUBLE EAGLEFARM(Races 6 and 8): Leg 1: Shocking could be an emerging superstar and if he can handle the heavy track then he will win the Derby. Leg 2: Youthful Jack and Marveen are the clear class runners in the Guineas and for a small outlay on the daily double you can get yourself a juicy return.
