A winner as both a two and three year old, she resumed for her four year old campaign with a battling fourth at Geelong three weeks ago, then disappointed when she led and only battled for fourth as favourite at Terang last week. This race looks easier and she’ll be fitter for those two outings. PRINCE CALAF (1) ran third at Echuca before leading when a battling fourth at Charlton last time. He’s a one paced battler who looks suited against these and has the draw. Handy squaregaiter CLASSIC PLAYBOY (4) has won 12 of 38 and grades well against these. He won the Echuca Trotters Cup in April before back-to-back unplaced efforts at the Valley. Each way chances to YUKON QUEEN (2), who wasn’t far away in a strong Ballarat affair last time; JEBS XTREME (5), who was placed here on debut three starts back and went okay when fifth at Maryborough last time. SELECTIONS: DUNDEE FLYER (6), Prince Calaf (1), Classic Playboy (4), Jebs Xtreme (5). RATINGS: 6 / 1, 4 / 2, 5, 9 / 3. Prior to that run, he went nicely when fifth in a strong and fast Super Sires heat to Wreck Tangles at Bendigo. ALLWEVNEED (7) followed some consistent form with a strong finish at the rear to win over the sprint journey here two starts back, then weakened after a tough trip when pressuring the lead in Wreck Tangles’ Bendigo Super Sires heat last time. This looks more his speed. First starter SKY SALUTE (1) (Keystone Salute – Angel Preneur) has won three consecutive trials recently at Maryborough, the latest by 40 metres, so has obvious ability and draws to use it. He’s a Gary Scoble trained gelding. Each way chances to TRES HOMBRES (3), who was placed in a strong day race at Moonee Valley before finishing close up and luckless at his latest two. A Peter Tonkin trained colt, he’s raced four times for a Mildura win and two placings, the most recent of those when an unlucky third at Maryborough last week. Stablemate COSMIC CRACKER (5) looks the main danger. She put in her best of three efforts so far when a solid second over this trip at Ballarat last week and has the barrier draw advantage over her stablemate. MAPERO MISSILE (1) is a speedy filly who led when second on debut at Ararat and has been luckless at two subsequent runs. The first starters are SIGNS OF TEXAS (4) (Life Sign – Imalone Star), a Tim McGuigan trained filly who recently won a Ballarat trial in slow time; IRISH MUSTARD (6) (Pass The Mustard – Irish Liner), a Robert East trained gelded son of a mare who won 18 races and has produced three winners from five previous foals – this fellow a recent winner of Mt Gambier and Terang trials; AMBERLU DREAMTIME (8) Exotic Earl – Reconciliation), a Kevin Brough trained filly who’s related to a winner and won a recent Mt Gambier trial; and IGETAROUND (9) (Jennas Beach Boy – Overton Miss), a Trevor Preston trained gelding who qualified when a distant second in a slow Ararat trial. She wasn’t disgraced at Maryborough last time when leading and weakening after being forced into a 27.7 first quarter. SPARKLING GYPSY (2) led when a battling second at Ballarat last week and won’t get a better chance to win his first race for more than two years. FLIGHT WARRIOR (1) was having his second start from a break of two years when trailing and battling into third place at Warragul last week and should be prominent from the pole. His first two runs back from a long spell were from awkward barriers when not sighted, but he showed up well at Ararat last time when pressured in the lead and weakening late for fourth over the middle distance to Our Sand Fly. His opposition here isn’t as strong and he’ll probably lead over the shorter trip. PASSARO (2) made late ground along the sprint lane when fifth at Bendigo a month ago before weakening after a tough trip in the breeze at Stawell last time. From the pole he’s the likely trailer here and is sure to be prominent along the sprint lane in the closing stages. NARRA SANDS (5) ran an improved race when she led and was a narrowly beaten at Horsham before dropping out after pulling hard in the breeze against better than these at Terang last week. Give her another chance. Each way chances to SPURFECT RENEE (4), SEDUCTRESS (7) and BENTOM BELLE (9), in fact really there isn’t a runner that can’t win. He hasn’t fired to that level in five runs this time in but looked close to a victory when second in a Super Sires heat to Ponchartrain at Horsham two starts back before having no luck at the Valley when finding trouble in his Semi-final. This should suit. OUR ELLAS FELLA (3) led all the way for a clear cut Geelong victory last Saturday night and could be in front again around this tighter circuit - if so he’ll be hard to run down. ARMBROOSKY (4) has been a big improver since joining the Larry Eastman stable with recent all the way Maryborough and Horsham victories and a last start third at Maryborough where she ran along quickly in the lead and was beaten a metre into third place by Takeabow in 1:58.3 for this trip. Rate her highly. MONARCO MISS (8) used the sprint lane to win when second up at Geelong a month ago, then made good ground from last when a close fourth to Steve McQueen there last time. Expect him to lead, if not use the sprint lane – whichever way, he’s the one to beat. Ex-Kiwi CULLENS CONSORT (3) has won 5 of 20 in his homeland and has a touch of class about him. He joins the Alan Donohoe stable and looks nicely graded in this series for which he’s obviously been set. UNDERTHERAINBOW (2) is a much improved young mare who’s won four of her latest five starts, all at Globe Derby. She’s been coming from behind in her races and should be sitting just off the pace here. LADY LUNCHALOT (7) has won 7 of 13 and comes off impressive Echuca and Bendigo victories and a solid third at Maryborough last time when forced to work hard early. She draws awkwardly but is a tough mare. SELECTIONS: HELLOVAPARTY (1), Cullens Consort (3), Undertherainbow (2), Lady Lunchalot (7). RATINGS: 1 / 3? / 2, 7, 8 / 4, 5. WALTON FLYER (2) is an amazing twelve year old who made it six wins for the season when beating NEDS DELIGHT (11) and CINCINNATUS (7) at Maryborough before leading when cut down late by Ticket Time at Geelong last time. Her main rival here is another three time winning filly KEEPERS DAUGHTER (2), who’s been in career best form. Ballarat and Geelong placings were followed by a tough victory here over ALLEGRA (4), then she didn’t have much luck from the second line when wide in the last lap and third in fast time at Geelong last weekend. A clean beginning should see her as the winner. BUNTYS KNIGHT (6) had been out of form for a long time before an impressive Bendigo mobile victory a month ago, then he was wide to the breeze when second at Charlton a fortnight ago. KOH SAMUI (4) led then handed up when out-finishing Azumah Mazasha at Kilmore last week and is getting back to his best form. He has gate speed and should be prominent over the sprint trip. KING OF STYX (8) was a powerful Kilmore winner last week when sitting wide in the last lap and although up in grade, draws to sit just off the pace and should be a threat. Each way chances to BIDDYS STAR (5), who’ll be improved by a luckless first up Maryborough effort, and BECADA STAR (10), who won a Valley day sprint affair and had a torrid trip when weakening but not far away behind Steve McQueen at Bendigo last time. SELECTIONS: DHONI (6), Koh Samui (4), King Of Styx (8), Becada Star (10). RATINGS: 6 / 4, 8, 10 / 5 / 2. SUGGESTED BET: DHONI (6) to win. Favourite there at his next start, he led then handed up and only plodded when mid-field to Lightning McCool but is better than that and looks nicely suited here. VICTREOS (2) disappointed when fourth from three back the pegs to Coastal at Geelong last Saturday night.. He threatens to be a good horse but doesn’t win too often. Top squaregaiter ACACIA RIDGE (6) did a good job to finish so close when resuming at Cranbourne last week and has genuine claims as well.
