Dropping back to fillies company here, and if driven more conservatively, she looks the one. BALLANDELLA BABY (1) is an honest one paced filly who ran second from the breeze to Modern Girl in a strong race at Moonee Valley back in March and has run two nice races there since. She sat outside the leader when fourth in a solidly run Cobram race last time and this time will get a softer trip from the pole draw. NOVA ARAMA (9) won the final of a sales series affair in impressive style at Bendigo in April and has since been luckless from a second line draw there and from a 20 metre back mark in a Maryborough stand. This is more her speed and she has an excellent each way chance. MANDS GEARL (11), who beat NOVA ARAMA (9) in an Echuca trial last weekend, went nicely when resuming and third at Maryborough a fortnight ago and is sure to be running on at the business end. SMART KREUZA (10) ran third to NOVA ARAMA (9) at Bendigo in April, then a handy fifth at Moonee Valley to Composed seven weeks ago at her latest start. She trialled okay at Kilmore last week. The first starter is ARLANDA (3) (Mcardle – Stoneridge Gale), a Ruth Shinn trained filly who’s trialled fairly and is related to two winners. Ratings: 4 / 1 / 9, 11 / 10. Care 3. He’s had a run of outs since winning at Mildura in April but there was nothing wrong with his last start eighth of eleven to Joe Bro in a strong open trot at Ballarat last weekend and he’ll appreciate the big drop in grade. OI YOU (8) is an improving type who begins brilliantly. He was soon in front from the ten metre mark when far too good for MY YANKEE SENSATION (3) and MACUENROAD (2) at Echuca at his latest run and has strong claims again. HEZA HERO (12) hasn’t won this season but has done well in much stronger races than this, with his best recent efforts being a placing at Moonee Valley to Joe Bro and a third to the in-form King Kipper at Maryborough three starts back. His run at Yarra Valley on Thursday can best be forgotten as he was posted wide for the trip. MACUENROAD (2) made an early mistake then only battled when third to OI YOU (8) at Echuca last time but grows a leg when in front and has a good chance of being there. Chances also to HEART OF A MAORI (5), who shows up on occasions and BUILTLIKEABRICK (10), who displayed good improvement at his first run for Darryn Rowney when an impressive Kilmore winner last Monday night. MY YANKEE SENSATION (3), THUNDERJACK (6) and THE MONSIGNOR (7) are also in the mix. Ratings: 13 / 8, 12 / 2, 5? 10 / 3, 6, 7. He came from the rear and was wide in the last lap when narrowly beaten by Twisted Firestarter in a fast middle distance affair here a fortnight ago, then worked hard and wide to the breeze when a strong Kilmore winner from the second line last Sunday. He’ll appreciate the good alley and looks the one to beat. PIECES OF A DREAM (3) has raced six times for four placings. She comes off a Nyah third in fast time and a solid second to the highly talented Tina Antoinette at Cobram last week where she got back from a wide draw and made good late ground. TAURUS GEORGE (6) showed improvement when leading from this alley and beating all but Transformation at Kilmore three weeks ago, is on the improve and strikes a winnable race. HONEYROSE (8) is racing in the best form of her career and is overdue to break her maiden status. Second here two starts back, she worked to the breeze when cut down late at Kilmore last Sunday and will get a softer trip here from the trailing draw. Each way chances to ALGRANCO ALIVE (4), who made ground when a debut fourth at Ballarat before going poorly at Bendigo during the week; and CURRYNROSES (5), an Echuca winner in April who hasn’t been far away in recent runs from awkward barriers. Ratings: 2 / 3, 6 / 8 / 4, 5. This looks an extremely winnable race for him and he’s the clear top pick. GOLDIES SON (1) resumed from a long spell when out-stayed by Bythelot after leading at Echuca early last month, then was caught wide at Bendigo before a tough death seat second at Echuca a fortnight ago. He has gate speed and will be hard to run down. VINTAGE WARNE (11) is an NSW performer who’s won 3 of 15, the latest of those when wide in the last lap and an impressive Penrith winner nine days ago. He draws awkwardly but meets beatable opposition. HEZANOPERATIVE (8) is a consistent gelding who’s recently been placed at Wagga, here and when doing plenty of work at Cobram last week. He’ll probably get a soft trip behind GOLDIES SON (1) and use the sprint lane. No other winning chances. Ratings: 5 / 1, 11? / 8. WE DARE TO DREAM (1) was in the top echelon of our juveniles last season and would have been in the finish of the Breeders Crown Final but for copping bad interference in the final circuit. He hasn’t raced quite to that level this season (3 wins from 11 starts) but there was nothing wrong with his Cobram second last week when wide from the rear in the final circuit. He can be a little bit iffy in the early stages but if he holds the lead, they probably won’t beat him. ELIXIR (4) is a talented filly who’s really come to the fore this term. She ran third to Im A Spicey Lombo in the Queensland Oaks in March and second to the outstanding Broadways Best in the Victorian Oaks Final before a soft win on this circuit five weeks ago. She led when a gallant third to Broadways Best in her Semi-final of the Super Sires at the Valley two starts back, then drew awkwardly on the second line when making good late ground for sixth in the final behind that talented filly. LOCKDOWN (9) was a Bankstown winner three starts back and not disgraced when wide most of the way and fifth in a 1:56.2 Menangle mile last Monday. If these two favourites get locked up in a speed battle, he could be the fresh one. Each way chances to THRUTHEBIGSTICKS (2), who’s been close up in both runs since winning at Charlton last month, PACIFIC OPUS (8), who got home nicely when second at Ballarat last weekend, and MASTER OPERATIVE (10), who’s come from the rear in two recent impressive placings at Kilmore and Cobram. Ratings: 1 / 4 / 9 / 2 / 8, 10. A three time winner this season, the latest of those here a month ago, he meets average opposition and shouldn’t have too much trouble conquering his awkward draw. GREATER MAGELLAN (4) hasn’t won for nearly two years but ran a nice race when second in fast time to Johnorama last Sunday night where he made two moves and fought on well. SIX OF THE BEST (5), another NSW visitor, was placed at Penrith four starts back and badly shut in when bolting for a run there nine days ago. This should suit. FLASH OF FREEDOM (9) ran a nice second at this level here two starts back before having no luck at Bendigo last time and he has each way claims along with FELLAFROM LOCKSLEY (10), who bobs up on occasions and gets back his favourite driver Daryl Douglas. Last start Kilmore placegetter BROKEN SPOKE (7), and JACCKA DUDE NZ (11), who was third on that track last Monday, also have claims. Ratings: 12 / 4, 5? / 9, 10 / 7, 11. WYPERFELD (2) was a longshot winner of a 4YO Mares Super Sires Final at the Valley early last month, then luckless in an unsuitable mile affair behind Jazzam there at her latest start. She’s a much improved mare who draws to be in the finish. JACCKA CLIVE NZ (12) draws awkwardly but is the best horse in the race (10 wins from 28 starts) and will be hard to hold out. Second to Em Maguane from a stand at Moonee Valley early last month, he then sat in the breeze to win at Bendigo, finished third in a hot race there behind Mystical Warrior, then got home nicely to beat all but the in-form Charlies Dream at Cranbourne a fortnight ago. VINTAGE JAG (4) is racing in career best form. He worked to the breeze to score in fast time here three starts back, then flashed home late for a close second to Mister Veejays Fella at Kilmore before sitting three wide for most of the trip and overpowering a slightly easier field at Cobram eight days ago. This is his best draw for some time. CLOCK WINDER (1) is a talented Riverina trained four year old who’s won 14 races over the past two seasons, his latest three on end. He led from this alley to win at Cootamundra in the first of those, then sat in the breeze to win at Young before an easy all the way Wagga success last week. This is his toughest test to date. Chances also to SINGASONGASIXPENCE (7), who has the talent but has been slightly off his game recently; and HARRY WALTON (11), a recent Kilmore winner who made good late ground when fifth in a strong Moonee Valley affair last weekend. The query runner is ex-Tasmanian TOPONETERRY (8), who joins the Alan McDonough stable. He led all the way to score at Devonport a couple of starts back, then was favourite when caught wide and fourth at Launceston a fortnight ago. DOUBLE JUSTICE (5) and WANDANAS BIG BOOTS (6) have place claims at least. Ratings: 2, 12 / 4 / 1 / 7, 8? 11 / 5 / 6. He looks nicely suited against these. MOST HAPPY JASPER (4) ran third here and then at Echuca before having no luck in that same Cobram affair and is an improving type who isn’t far off a win. The interesting runner here is ex-Kiwi KENSINGTON GARDENS NZ (6), who showed good ability in his only start so far when fourth at Invercargill three months ago. He’s been trialling okay and lobs into a winnable race first up. MERINDAH MAGIC (2) sat in the breeze for a Bendigo second before attempting the same when fourth to Pepperell Fortytwo in a final of that race ten days ago and is a lightly raced gelding who draws to break his maiden status.
