Hard to beat. BELLEBROOK HARMS (6) is better than form reads and overlook 4.2m 4th to A Bit Dusty in 2030m Newcastle C2 Jul 4. Well rated to land 2.5m win from George Lochinvar in 2030m Newcastle C1 May 23. Respect his claims. SIRHOWY (3) pulled hard and suffered a gear malfunction when short head 2nd to Karamea Holmes in 1609m Newcastle C1 Jul 4. Is racing in career best form and another forward showing is expected. ALVARES (7) was gallant in defeat when 8.8m 4th to Cuttheattitude in much stronger 1609m Menangle 2A0+ Jun 22 then caught wide and good effort to finish 5.9m 3rd to Smackdown in 1609m Menangle 2A0/2A1 Jun 30. That was her best effort for a while and could be one to follow with a degree of confidence. SECRET SYMPHONY (10) is mixing her form but latest run was sound when 4m 2nd to Lombo La Shelly in 1609m Newcastle C0 Jul 4. Awkwardly drawn but can make presence felt. Drawing close-in should help her cause and three starts ago she did a huge job to win in much harder company at Shepparton. ANANZ (6) hasn’t really gone on with the job as a three-year-old but there was nothing wrong with her weekend effort in an Oaks Trial at Ballarat. She wasn’t far away behind Mohua here the week before either. THREES A CROWD (8) might find this easier than what she’s been contesting in Victoria recently. She wasn’t beaten far last start and can get a nice run from the inside of the second row. Starting from the pole is RIVERGUM MAGIC (1), who has some gate speed and might sneak under the radar. She hasn’t run special times but is a consistent performer. Place chances to AMERIKEPT (7), CROWN OF THORNS (9) and FACT OF LIFE (3), who was well in the market on debut and might be worth another chance. TAB CODE A H TOUCHTONE 24 heraldsun.com.au Assessment: DOMINATE LINE (4), remains winless after eight outings but has placed at six of them - including last year’s two- year-old Southern Cross final. His effort behind Brutus Smith last start after pulling in the run was full of merit. It might pay to forgive ONE ACE WONDER (3) went around earlier in the week. Go on his previous form and he’s right in this, having won six races and been placed another 11 times in 21 starts this season. He has the gate speed to make use of the draw. TIGER OREILLY (7) is another consistent performer, although he’ll likely need some luck from the wide draw. He wasn’t far behind DOMINATE LINE last time out. CAPTAIN COURAGE (8) is an irregular winner whose recent Victorian performances have been quite okay, while TARCHEN (5) has done enough to be considered a place chance. She just wins here on her previous efforts. WESTERN EMPRESS (9) is racing very well and looks the logical danger if there is any weakness in the favourite. COCOLOSAL (4) won her second race before a spell last November. She’s no star but is always competitive. MORIVA (5) resumed with a solid effort at Port Pirie last week running second to Cha Cha Charlie when wide for most of the last lap. This is the toughest she’s seen, but she shouldn’t be under-rated. LITTLE MISS MADAM (1) has done very little to enthuse of late, but it’s hard to leave out a Kevin Brough runner when he’s in town. JANE CROTHERS (8) shows promise and can fill a place, while ACE HIGH MISS (6) is best of the rest. The draw is the obvious concern for her with some gate speed drawn inside. TOP OF THE WAVE (1) has no such concerns and has the gate speed to take advantage of his handy draw. He did a fair bit of work here last start and still proved too good and his two runs in Victoria before that were good at big odds. VARIO (10) is racing in great heart and his should be in the finish again here despite the tough draw. A half-head second behind Beautiful Drive from a similar barrier is good form for this. SANDYISMYNAME (8) has been racing consistently, while VENICE BEACH (3) has won one of two SA starts and her effort at Globe Derby on Monday afternoon was okay behind Tango Bromac. He bolted in at Port Pirie before repeating that effort with a good win over Raza Sharp Lombo last time. KIWI FELLA (4) has been around the mark at his past couple and was held-up when 3rd behind Out Of The Ashes here. He’s poorly drawn but has a good turn of speed and will go close here. PETES ELECT (8) won 13 of his first 24 races but he has been a touch disappointing this season. His run at Terang behind Village Pungee three starts back was good and his recent Vic form is good. He’s fresh, drawn well and won’t be far away. CRUSADERS CREST (3) is a smart type who has won 19 races and he was impressive two starts back before a good effort last week when 3rd behind LA BALLE DE FLAMME (1). He has the good barrier and looks the one to beat. SWIFT CULLEN (4) was a Warragul winner three starts back and he showed early speed last time when 7th, only beaten 9.1m behind Christian Melody. He did all the work that night and looks a contender for the front from this draw. SHAKAS PHROPHECY (6) won two in a row before a close up second at Mildura to Moving It. DROP OF GIN (7) was consistent in the Gramel, but would need a mistake from the fav to be a winning hope tonight. SOL INVICTUS (4) was well supported in all three legs of the Gramel, but was disappointing after runnng a place in the first leg. He wasnt really sighted against the pacers on Monday behind Totally Classy, but it might have smartened him up. MAIN ARTERY (8) was very cranky in the Grammel breaking in every race. Her best would see her right in this, but you’ll have your heart in your mouth if you put the money on. TRAPPER BOB (9) is very genuine and has place claims again. The rest have it all to do, but ELLJAYS MISS (6) can run a race as can RED BEAR WROXTON (1) if he hit his straps. She was well beaten and would need to improve, driver change may be a help. JEWEL OF DESTINY (1) has plenty of ability having won four of 12 and she hasn’t raced since March. She was a Mt Gambier winner three starts back and is sure to give a big sight from the draw. SIGN OF ANGELS (6) is a handy filly and she just missed at Port Pirie last week when runner-up behind Rivergum Magic. ART MAUR GIRL (9) is in good hands and was runner-up behind Problem Solved at Terang last time out. She’s kept fresh and must be given plenty of thought. He’ll be very heard to beat coming off a last-start Ballarat Victory. BRUTUS SMITH (8) is a smart three-year-old who proved his class by coming off the speed for an impressive win over Dominate Line here last time in a Breeders Crown heat. He has won his past four in very good style, including sitting three wide the trip at Warragul four starts back and should make it five on end. RAZA SHARP LOMBO (2) has a good record and he raced wide when runner-up behind tango Bromac last time. SPIRIT OF SAM (3) found the line nicely last time in weaker class and can run into the multiples. PACIFIC MAKER (1) only battled last time but has shown ability and can improve. His form before that was excellent and he has the helpful draw and really should just be too good for these. RAISINA RUCKUS (7) has the next best formline, although it’s not nearly as strong and the draw certainly doesn’t assist. CAPTAIN RAMA (8) and APAYSA (6) are worth place thought on recent runs, while SAFE OPPORTUNITY (5) has been consistent enough this season and WHEATSHEAF AVABALL (1) could be an improver from the pole. The last time he found the lead here he won in late May, albeit in slow time.
