Strong claims. CINCINNATUS (4) has raced well in standing start claimers of late and has to be included in chances. CEE HANOVER (1) has the ideal draw and can run into the placings. INDI GLOVES (8) returns from a stint in Tasmania. He has been freshened up, likely to show up. JACCKA DUDE (2) will be improved by his first up effort for a new stable. Place chance best along with JASPER ROSE (3) and HAWAIIAN DAISY (5). SELECTIONS:WALTON FLYER (6) Mister Clinton (7), Cinncinnatus (4), Cee Hanover (1). RATINGS: 6 / 7 / 1, 4 / 2, 3, 5, 8. SUGGESTED BET: WALTON FLYER (6) to win. SPRINT LANE with ADAM HAMILTON Bold Cruiser, but he could finally be headed north. T Douglas was so impressed with Bold Cruiser’s upset win over Smoken Up in the Young Pedro Free-For-All at Tabcorp Park, Melton, on Friday night, he is seriously considering running him in the Brisbane Winter Cup on Saturday week. ‘‘Sure, he’s going to meet some very good horses like Blacks A Fake and Be Good Johnny in Brisbane, but he beat a top one down here in Smoken Up,’’ Douglas said. ‘‘His win the other night was as good as he’s ever gone. It was a huge effort to sustain a long run in those sort of times. ‘‘We’re not locked in to the trip, but it could be a good working holiday.’’ Bold Cruiser has gone from a handy sit-sprinter to a proven feature-race perfor- mer, with a string of major wins, including the Tasman- ian Championship and Kil- more, Mildura and Moonee Valley Cups, this season. Douglas will have a look at + his major Winter Cup rivals in Saturday night’s $30,000 Sunshine Sprint at Albion Park. Lombo Pocket Watch will have to improve to beat Blacks A Fake and Be Good Johnny in the Sunshine Sprint. Hot winter: Bold Cruiser wins at Tabcorp Park on Friday. Picture: STUART McCORMICK The former champion juvenile suffered his first defeat in four runs on the comeback trail when a slightly disappointing second to Lively Highlander in the Four and Five-Year- Old Championship at Albion Park on Saturday night. The winner had a cosy run behind the leader, but the pace was solid early and Lombo Pocket Watch enjoyed a good cart into the race. Y OU had to feel sorry for Scotty Dyer after Grinnersawinner’s barn- storming win in Friday night’s $100,000 Group 1 Vic- bred final at Tabcorp Park. Triumphant trainer Mick Blackmore revealed it was only Dyer’s confidence in the lightly raced pacer that prompted him to tackle the Vicbred series. Dyer was faced with a tough choice in the final after qualifying the equally promising Palais De Louvre. He went with Palais De Louvre because of the barrier draw, but it backfired when the Leigh Miles- trained youngster was trapped three back on the inside and lost all hope. Geoff Webster picked up the drive on Grinnersawin- ner and drove patiently back in the field before unleashing an impressive finishing burst to upset hot favourite Two Eye See. T HE huge Redwood Car- nival just got better. Kiwi trainer Brent Mangos, of Molly Darling fame, will add somerareNew Zealand flavour to Sunday’s RAINERGlenn Douglas skipped the Gold Coast Inter Dominion with $50,000 Redwood Classic at Maryborough with his excit- ing two-year-old trotter Tuhimata Glass. ‘‘I’m told the few Kiwis who have run in the Red- wood haven’t fared too well, but this is the best young trotter I’ve driven,’’ he said. The all-trotting Redwood Carnival starts at Marybor- ough on Friday and culmi- nates with the Redwood Classic and Victoria Trotters Derby on Sunday. A USTRALIA’S top four- year-old race, the $200,000 Group 1 Chariots of Fire at Harold Park, is just around the corner (July 31), but finding the winner will be quite a challenge. Victoria’s Maffioso staked his claim with a return to winning form at Harold Park on Friday night, but nominal Chariots favourite Rohan Home suffered a shock defeat in another race at the meeting. Emerging Victorian Sammy Maguire didn’t have much luck, but just looked fair behind Bold Cruiser at Tabcorp Park on Friday night. The Western Australian- based Im Themightyquinn, who won ultra-impressively again at Gloucester Park on Friday night, would clearly be the horse to beat if connectionsmadethe trip to Sydney. HEROES ROCKNROLLA (Gee, she deserved that) BRIAN GATH (An old marvel) BOLD CRUISER (A truly remarkable season) REDWOOD CARNIVAL (It all starts on Friday) MICK BLACKMORE (First Group 1 win with Grinnersawinner) KAMWOOD JACK/PALAIS DE LOUVRE/RED SAMURAI /ARMED GUARD (Eye-catching runs at Tabcorp Park) CILLAS EARL (Going places) GARY HALL SR/GARY HALL JR (An unstoppable force in Perth) VILLAINS ARIZONA BLUE (Terrific talent, but manners are becoming a big worry) MAKE ME SMILE (Awful at Harold Park) ROHAN HOME ($1.20 chances should go better than that) CIRCUMFERENCE: 1000m STRAIGHT: 204m SPRINT LANE OPERATES 3 SEW-Eurodrive Pace 3.00 2180m. $5000. PACIFIC GALE (1) is better than recent form suggests and has the benefit of the ideal draw. EARLS A FLAME (4) worked to the lead to win at Bendigo four starts back. Not the worst.
