MR WHIZZER (12) had a stint in SA where he’s won twice this season, and prior to that was a triple winner in Victoria. Having his first run back in the Kerryn Manning stable, he made a late pressure break when beaten a length by False Gem in a much stronger race than this at Bendigo a fortnight ago, will be fitter for that, his first run in a couple of months, and looks well graded on his best form. SHIRAZ CABERNET (9) has won 5 of his 26 starts. He won his third race for the season when scoring at Terang back in April, ran second and fourth respectively in heat and final of the Super Sires 4YO, both behind the outstanding I Didnt Do It, then was given a short let up after a Cranbourne failure. He did well at his first run back when wide in the last lap and a gallant second to Kellys Nippa at Maryborough last Sunday. HILTON GEMMA (7) is a consistent mare who worked hard early to find the lead, then took a trail when fifth in a strong Maryborough mobile last Sunday, and she’ll do better here from the stand. BARNEYS INVASION (8) made late ground when third to Kellys Nippa at Maryborough and three starts back came from the rear to win a Moonee Valley day affair in impressive fashion. Best of the others is the consistent IMSOCLASSY (2) - place claims at least to all other runners. Ratings: 7, 9, 12 / 8 / 2 / 5 / all others. An above average three year old, he beat the in-form Robbos Retreat at Cranbourne four starts back and comes off a fast finishing second at Kilmore and an excellent second to talented filly Tina Antoinette over the unsuitable sprint trip at Geelong last week where he drew awkwardly, sat wide and was nutted on the line. Whatever beats him will win. TWISTED FIRESTARTA (11) won his third race for the season when coming from the rear to score at Horsham, then sat three back the pegs when second to handy youngster Monte Carlo Lombo before making ground from well back when favourite and second at Kilmore last Monday. SHEZA BEACH BABE (1) was placed in three of four earlier this season and resumed with a luckless fifth at Ballarat last Monday night when badly held up and finishing on the heels of the deadheating winners. BLITZEM LASS (5) is an honest filly who’s won twice this season and grades well at this level – she followed a hat trick of placings with a solid fourth at this level at Tabcorp Park last weekend. Place chances at least to GYRO SPIRIT (3), who’s on the improve; and JUSTABRITTMORE (8), who ran an improved race when covering ground and fifth to Tina Antoinette at Geelong last week Ratings: 4 / 11 / 1 / 5 / 3 / 8. Favourite on debut at Addington in May, she did plenty of work in the run when third there, then won a two horse Breeders Crown heat at Addington five weeks ago. She joins the Graeme Lang stable to be trained by a Harness Racing legend who was the mentor of the outstanding Scotch Notch and Wagon Apollo. THE TARKINE (7) is a talented by wayward Andy Gath trained youngster who’s galloped in all three starts so far. He made good ground when favourite and third in a Tatlow heat to CONFUSED SUPERSTAR (6) at Kilmore early last month, then galloped early in the final at Moonee Valley before making good ground for a distant fifth to Mister Castleton. Stablemate LOUEY LOUEY LOUEY (9) hasn’t finished further back than fourth in eight starts so far. He beat Rostevarren in a Tabcorp Park standing start non-Tab race last month, then ran second in his heat and then second in his final of the 2YO Super Sires to Rostevarren before a gallant third in last week’s Redwood when finding early trouble from his second line draw. CONFUSED SUPERSTAR (6) led all the way to win from this gate on debut at Kilmore, then repeated the dose in all the way fashion in a Tatlow heat at Kilmore before making a mistake in the Final. He again galloped early in a Super Sires heat at Geelong and was tailed off. Take him on trust. Best of the others are consistent filly BROWNGATE BEAUTY (5), who sat in the breeze when fifth in the Redwood last Sunday, recent winner here MILITARY PRECISION (10), and BACKAS COBBER (11), a dual winner earlier this season who’s found trouble in recent runs. A late blooming Emma Stewart trained six year old mare, she has the strength to overcome an awkward alley and is the clear top pick. NO MATTER WHAT (9) was a big improver on previous runs where he worked early, then took a sit and cut down talented youngster Renaissance Man at Tabcorp Park last weekend. He draws to sit just off the pace and has strong each way claims. ZIDANNE (10) is a tough young gelding who hasn’t finished further back than fourth in his last 14 starts. He won both heat and final of a Kilmore series a month ago, then was wide in the last lap when a close fourth to the talented On Any Day there at his latest run, and resumes off a short break into a winnable race. The David Murphy trained BULLY MURPHY (6) won a race here late last season and went nicely when resuming and a recent second at Geelong to JANE ISOBEL (11), and will be improved by the run. That quartet rate clear of EFFECTIVE TORQUE (3), OBOLLAND (5), MATAI CULLEN (7) and MISS ATHENS (8), who all have each way claims. Ratings: 11 / 9, 10 / 6 / 3, 7 / 5, 8. He covered ground in the final circuit when beating Mach Twain (a winner since) here earlier this month, then sprinted quickly to win a Breeders Crown heat at Globe Derby a fortnight ago at his latest start. He looks the one to beat. Ex-Kiwi SHORTYS STAR (4) won four races in his homeland and showed talent at his first Aussie start when leading and cut down late at Kilmore last Monday. He’ll be fitter for that, his first run since March. POTENZA (10) is a quality youngster who’s won 7 of 16, five of those this season. He was resuming and just in need of the run when finding the lead and out-battled into second place behind Scanlon at Kilmore a month ago and should get a soft trip here from this trailing draw. LEND US A SCORE (8) has won five races in SA this season and wasn’t far away in a strong Moonee Valley 4YO affair behind stablemate Tsunami Lombo when fourth there three starts back. He subsequently weakened from the breeze here, then was beaten under a length when coming from well back and sixth to Lady Octavia in a Moonee Valley 4YO affair last Saturday night. Each way chances to JILLIBY HERBIE (3), who ran an improved race when third at Tabcorp Park last week; and CULLENS CONSORT (6), who led all the way over the sprint trip at Bendigo before starting favourite at Tabcorp Park last week and weakening after going too quickly in the lead. He finished his last campaign with an all the way Moonee Valley daytime success last December but since resuming has only battled in each of his four starts, but been unable to find his favourite spot in front in those runs. He wasn’t far away when eighth beaten two lengths by Village Pungee at the inaugural Tabcorp Park meeting three weeks ago, drops in grade, and should find the lead this time. YES I CAN (7) is a tough Peter Tonkin trained gelding who’s been sparingly raced this season, winning two of nine. He hasn’t started for nearly two months but goes well fresh. Rate him highly. TOPONETERRY (6) led then took a sit when finishing well to score nicely at Geelong ten days ago, and is an ex-Tasmanian with above average ability. MISTER RHYS (10) won a Horsham stand a month ago, then was caught in the breeze and fought on well when second to perfect Katie at Nyah last week. He draws awkwardly but has the speed to put himself into the fight. Chances also to honest mare MISS LAURA JANE (1), who was off her game in a failure at Harold Park last weekend; BELOKA DIAMOND (2), who hasn’t been far away recently at this level and; and her stablemate VILLAGE GLOW (5), who’s going okay and went around last night at Tabcorp Park. A Moonee Valley 3YO winner this time last year, he was spelled after running second at Geelong, then at his first run for twelve months, flashed home to score at Shepparton a month ago. He then galloped at the start when well in the betting on opening day at Tabcorp Park before coming from a wide alley to find the lead and finishing off in 56.8 in an easy and convincing win here last Monday night. He draws awkwardly but is a classy customer. Fellow four year old SECRET TENDER (7) is a dual Moonee Valley winner this season, one of those in a Vicbred Semi Final. He looks well graded at this level but disappointed when resuming from a break and sitting in the breeze before dropping out to finish last at Geelong ten days ago. He’d go close to winning this at his best. CHARISTEAS (9) is an ex-Kiwi who won five races in quick time when first coming to Australia earlier this season. He was resuming when in need of the run and a battling fifth at Shepparton three weeks ago but should clean up nicely for that outing, and has strong claims from this good trailing draw. MONARCO MISS (10) ran a brave race when second to Living On Fire at Tabcorp Park last weekend and has an each way chance along with probable leader YOU LAZY BOY (1), GALVERON (4), who’s always thereabouts; ROYAL STEEL (6), who disappointed at Tabcorp Park last week but is up to these at his best; and MICKIE DILINGER (8), who might get a soft trip and finish home well from the draw. TIRUS (5) was first up from a spell when he trailed wide into the race and split Viareggio and THE BROWNHOUSE KID (6) in that affair, and he’ll be much improved by that first up effort. Ex-NZ filly ATHENA BROMAC (7) was a Gore winner in April, then failed at Forbury Park before a solid second at Horsham ten days ago when making her Australian debut. She’ll be improved further. WHOODOO WOMAN (1) has been close up in recent runs and draws to improve on her close Tabcorp Park fourth from the breeze last weekend.
