Herald Sun Form Guide : July 25th 2009
52 Herald Sun, Saturday, July 25, 2009 + Globe Derby Sprint Lane: Yes Daily Double: 5, 7 Quaddie: 4, 5, 6, 7. TAB CODE A H TOUCHTONE 24 1 SATAB Southern Cross 6.13 1800m. $8000. 2yo C&Gs 2A0 Or Better RBD Mob Repechage 1 19743 SONIC BLURR Second Line 8 78s98 JUSTLIKESATAN (ODM) 9 4896 CAN HE SCOOT (ODM) r LYNTON KING (ODM) 3 43s12 BAD BOY BLUES 4 29s46 MARTIAL ARTIST 5 20577 MAKE AN ACE 6 7s233 KORUNYE KID 7 23655 BARODA BANDITO 2 134 OUR BRIGADOON Assessment: BAD BOY BLUES (3) led at his leisure when not beaten far by Boom Land last week. From the good draw you’d expect him to be prominent again and if he has an easy time of it he could prove hard to catch. BARODA BANDITO (7) is awkwardly drawn and his last three efforts haven’t been his best. But if he can recapture the form he showed earlier in the year he’d certainly be a threat. KORUNYE KID (6) is another who has to contend with a wide draw but has been around the place of late, while SONIC BLURR (1) is a place chance from the pole. OUR BRIGADOON (2) hasn’t done much wrong at two race starts to date and MARTIAL ARTIST (4) is another with place claims on best form. SELECTIONS: BAD BOY BLUES (3), Baroda Bandito (7), Our Brigadoon (2), Korunye Kid (6) 10 Scratched FR — B W Sims FR 41.00 M L Norman FR 34.00 2 52806 WREKOGNIZE NZ 3 06067 RED BEAR WROXTON 4 87550 MELPARK VICTORY 2 Trotters Hcp 1 54424 TRAPPER BOB 6.50 2645m. $5250. T3 Or Better Trotters RBD Stand M R Champion (C) FR 7.00 Assessment:MAIN ARTERY (9) was back to her best last week. The extra 20m handicap is obviously a challenge in similar company but, as always, she’s a chance if stepping cleanly. Stewards found ALDERBARANFAVOURITE (7) wasn’t greatly inconvenienced last week when involved in a sprint lane scrimmage with DROP OF GIN (6). It could hardly have helped her cause though. Both horses meet MAIN ARTERY better at the handicaps and it would be no surprise to see either - but ALDERBARANFAVOURITE, in particular - turn the tables here. OLD DANS BROTHER (5) will find this easier than recent Victorian outings, while ROVERS RETURN (8) wasn’t disgraced behind the pacers last start. Expect TRAPPER BOB (1) to run a bold race from the pole. SELECTIONS: ALDEBARANFAVOURITE (7), Main Artery (9), Drop Of Gin (6), Trapper Bob (1) 7 12113 ALDEBARANFAVOURITE 8 76s19 ROVERS RETURN 9 08731 MAIN ARTERY L M Alcorn 10 5.00 D B Hill 20 3.60 D A Smith 30 7.00 D K Harding 30 ?3.20 3 SATAB Southern Cross 7.22 2230m. $8000. 3yo Fillies 3A0 Or Better RBD Mob Repechage 1 175s3 JEWEL OF DESTINY Second Line 8 11s23 MORIVA 2 5s838 FULLY BLESSED 3 12824 SIGN OF ANGELS 4 37087 LITTLE MISS MADAM 5 74457 LINVEL COCO 6 69541 FLOSSY GEM 7 75072 BAUME Assessment: WESTERN EMPRESS (9) ran a super race behind Lucys Pride in her heat and it’s impossible to ignore that formline. All her form before that was very good and with even luck from the second row she should be right in the finish. The danger, if there is one, could be SIGN OF ANGELS (3) off the front row. She’s shown gate speed at times but had to be snagged back in her heat after drawing out. FLOSSY GEM (6) and BAUME (7) quinellaed a race at Port Pirie last Friday but it’s fair to say both would have to improve on their heat runs to be winning propositions here from the wide draws. MORIVA (8) is a place chance and JEWEL OF DESTINY (1) can run a race from the pole but really this looks WESTERN EMPRESS’s race to lose. SELECTIONS: WESTERN EMPRESS (9), Sign Of Angels (3), Jewel Of Destiny (1), Moriva (8) 9 12122 WESTERN EMPRESS 10 6s080 SHAYLAH (EMERG) 11 658s5 IMACOOLCLOUD (ODM) L M Harvey FR 6.50 B Giorgio FR ?2.50 D B Hill FR 34.00 S P Adams FR 41.00 2230m. $8000. 3yo C&Gs 3A0 Or Better RBD Mob Repechage 1 9s364 SOUND SYSTEM 2 16574 WHEATSHEAF AVABALL 3 447s3 JENNAS FLING 4 32323 BIG RUSTY Second Line 8 07879 TOPOFTHEWORLD (EMERG) 9 21125 SHAKAS PROPHECY 10 16123 REDONDO ON TELOWIE 11 sb053 THEGREEN KNIGHT (ODM) 5 s3135 TIGER OREILLY 6 52261 SPIRIT OF SAM 7 8s557 TARCHEN 4 SATAB Southern Cross 7.52 Q1 R M Frearson FR 8.00 M L Norman FR 5.00 D K Harding FR 11.00 W J Hill FR 15.00 R M Hryhorec FR 21.00 B J Scaffidi FR 41.00 Assessment: TIGER OREILLY (5) has resumed from a spell in good form and there was merit in his heat effort behind One Ace Wonder from a wide draw. He does have gate speed and would be hard to beat if taken forward from the slightly better barrier. BIG RUSTY (4) is another consistent type, just battling to be first past the post at the moment. He’s yet to miss a place this season and will be thereabouts for sure. WHEATSHEAF AVABALL (2) and THE GREEN KNIGHT (11) were close-up to the best-performed of the heat winners (Lightning McCool), while REDONDO ON TELOWIE (10) must contend with a tough draw but might find this easier than last week’s assignment against the older horses. He wasn’t far away on that occasion either. SHAKAS PROPHECY (9) warrants some thought, SOUND SYSTEM (1) ought to improve from the pole and SPIRIT OF SAM (6) is a last-start winner. If you can find a way to view her heat run as something other than a fluke, then JENNAS FLING (3) comes into calculations via the One Ace Wonder formline. There is no Ananz here, although a second row draw (as opposed to the pole) makes it more tricky. PETITE PUMPKIN (4) is another racing well and wasn’t too far behind Clarenden Serene in her heat. She has gate speed and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her work across and either lead or sit outside the leader. ACE HIGH MISS (2) has consistent recent form when using her gate speed to race prominently, so expect to see her in the firing line from the outset. She’s a place hope at least. THREES A CROWD (6) is a talented filly whose last few efforts have only been OK. She’s also a place chance along with JANE CROTHERS (10) and BOBBY SOX BELLE (11). BRUTUS SMITH (6) won four straight, including an impressive win here two starts back, then raced outside the leader when 3rd to From Day One in his heat. He’ll probably have to do it tough again but must be rated highly. DOMINATE LINE (7) has his shared of ability, with placings at seven of nine starts, though he’s yet to win. He was a short-priced fav when he raced without cover when 2nd here last week when they covered the last half in 58.3sec. He’s overdue to break through. RAZA SHARP LOMBO (5) has finished first or second at his past 10 starts. He took a trail then hit the line hard when a sharp winner over smart mare So Deep here on Monday. He must be considered with a repeat. RAISINA RUCKUS (10) is an honest type and has a win over RAZA SHARP LOMBO (5) to his credit five starts ago. The tough draw means he’s probably only a place hope at best. CAPTAIN COURAGE (1) doesn’t win out of turn but has the draw to make him worth thought for the multiples. He’ll be hard to beat if they can get him to settle. REPLICATOR (5) is consistent and wasn’t far off them again on Monday. He’ll need luck from the draw but isn’t without a hope. SHADOWS OF A MAN (6) is a free-running type who’s struggling to break through this campaign. He sat outside the leader when a close-up 2nd here last time. He hasn’t won for a year but will take running down if he can find the pegs. HAVE A SWIG (9) comes under some notice on last-start win here a week ago, though he only rated 2:04.6 over 1800m, while WHYIEORDER (10) and SOVEREIGN DEEK (11) are poorly drawn but look the best of the rest. He has the draw against him but shouldn’t be far off them again. TRUE COURAGE (2) has been thereabouts at both runs this time in but was slightly disappointing in his heat after leading. He should be closer to his peak fitness now and is sure to give you a good run for your money. ICE BABY (5) did plenty of work in his heat but still got to the line stoutly when 2nd to Jonnyndry in the fastest heat, though he was beaten 10.5m. He looks an improver and is worth an each-way ticket. WAITPINGA BAD BOY (9) was one of our best early-season juveniles but hasn’t really gone on with it recently. He was never in the hunt when 6th to Boom Land in his heat but can do better. Take him on trust. She’s been competitive against stronger opposition than this and stuck to her guns when 2nd to the smart Carlisle Queen in last week’s heat. She should handle these without any problems. PAULA FROM GAWLER (8) was narrowly beaten when 3rd in her heat when she took a trail behind the leader. She’s nicely drawn and should get a good trip with David Harding in the sulky. SPECIAL TINT (6) won here four starts ago when she led throughout in a slow 2:08 from the pole then battled away when 3rd to Carlisle Queen last week. She shouldn’t be far away, while JAMAKA RUN (2) was only beaten 4.5m when 5th to Island Pearl in her heat and has the draw to run a cheeky race. She was much too good for Carlisle Queen two starts back then looked to be travelling well when she galloped due to a gear problem in her heat. If she does everything right, she’ll win but she’s a risk. LOADED STAR (6) ran a good race when 2nd to Sinopoli last week when she worked without cover and stuck to her guns in the straight. GO BOOM (7) stuck on well to finsh 2.2m 3rd to Deadly Handsome in 2160m Harold Park M0 Jul 17. Should give a great sight at each-way odds again. Reliable type with an excellent record. Go well again. BELLEBROOK HARMS (5) had identical gate and too strong in dash to wire to land neck win from Corella Magic in 2550m Newcastle C1/C2 Jul 11. Form stacks up and should be prominent for a long way. POWER IN MOTION (9) was always handy and sent to race outside leader’s wheel when 8.3m 3rd to Harry True Star in 1609m Newcastle C2/C4 Jul 11. Wisely rested after tough run last time. Each-way. THINK PINK (8) was eased in training after ordinary 14.4m 5th to Lip Sync in 2130m Bathurst C3/C4 Jun 24.
