She draws better than her main rivals and looks hardest to beat. SHOW ME AMBER (13) is a talented young mare who’s won 10 of 30 and is three from three this preparation. She was driven aggressively to find the lead over the sprint trip here last week before staving off ARMBROOSKY (9), and will have to do it from behind this time but is well capable of winning, especially over this longer trip. PERFECT KATIE (12) was a standout earlier this season but lost form before turning it around for recent victories at Nyah and here a fortnight ago when leading all the way. She can sprint quickly if held up for a late run. Best of the front line horses may be SLICK LAVRA (2), who’s been luckless in two runs since back-to-back placings at this level here and at Moonee Valley. Each way chances to SPRING HILL (3), WYA MYA MACRAY (5), TRANQUIL ODYSSEY (6), DREAMAWAY VOGUE (10) and TWIRLING (11), who’s been placed twice here recently. Before going for a spell, he ran second in an Inter Dominion Semi-final at Ballarat, then was luckless in the final behind Sundons Gift and he’s looked in good nick since resuming, with a first up back mark second from the stand here to Skyvalley at the opening meeting and a tough third to that same horse under a mobile FFA conditions here last week. He has to give a decent start to some up-and-comers but in this small field should be close enough to handle them. SI CAPISCO (2) is a talented four year old who’s won 6 of 10 this season. He covered plenty of ground early when a tough Bendigo winner last week and looks nicely handicapped. KELLYS NIPPA (1) won the Tontine Final at Geelong four starts back and comes off a death seat 13 metres Maryborough victory over Shiraz Cabernet (winner since) and a fast finishing Kilmore success last week. He should do well at his first Metro try. GLUTEUS MAXIMUS (4) completed the hat trick with a fast finishing victory over In Pursuit here last week and, a nine time winner this season, is holding her form well. That quartet rate clearly ahead of LOOK HERE BLOKE (3), who ran a brave race when in front and fifth here last week after pulling hard; and SUNSET TRUSCOTT (5), who was checked at a vital stage and finished a handy third in that same race behind GLUTEUS MAXIMUS (4), while FALSE GEM (6) and THE WINDSURFER (7) have place claims at least. LANERCOST (3) is a high quality Queenslander who’s won six of seven, likes to lead in his races and should be in front. He was narrowly beaten by Two Eye See at Albion Park in May and since resuming from a short break has won three on end there, the latest when finishing off in 27.3 to win his Breeders Crown heat. SMILING SHARD (7) is an outstanding Kiwi who’ll be driven by all conquering young reinsman Dexter Dunn, who served his apprenticeship a couple of years back with Andy Gath. In the recently completed NZ season, the 19 year old Dunn obliterated the previous New Zealand mark of 161 victories with an outstanding 204 wins. SMILING SHARD (7) is a six time winner in his homeland this season, the last four on end with his best effort being a 1:53.7 New Zealand 2YO record mile victory in his Harness Jewels race at Ashburton in May. He subsequently won a Breeders Crown heat and brought up Dunn’s 200th winner with a hollow victory at Addington a fortnight ago. MACH WIPER (4) upset some strongly fancied youngsters with a long odds Bendigo Breeders Crown heat victory last week and has each way claims along with lightly raced youngsters SMOOTH COURAGE (5) and ETON BROMAC (6), who fought out the finish of a race at Shepparton last weekend. Ex-Tasmanian ARRAS (12) impressed with a Moonee Valley win and placing in June and comes off a solid third here a fortnight ago to CHRISTIAN MELODY (13) and a luckless unplaced effort on this circuit last week when shut in. He drops in class on his two latest runs. CHRISTIAN MELODY (13) is a wonderfully consistent mare who won at Cranbourne, then was runner up in strong mares races here and at Moonee Valley before rating 1:56.5 to win over the sprint journey here a fortnight ago. That trio rate clear of surprise Moonee Valley winner of a couple of weeks back ARROGANT AL (10), who was caught wide in the final of that race behind Jaccka Clive here a fortnight ago, with each way chances to VILLAGE IN VESA (2), who draws to improve on recent battling efforts, and VILLAGE GLOW (7), who finished well to score a good win at Shepparton last weekend. CAPTAIN KALAHARI (7) looked back to the outstanding form he showed as a younger horse when wide in the last lap and out-staying leader RUBY DAZZLER (9) in a 56.4 last half here last week. He’s sure to be improved by that run, his second in a year and first since May, and looks the measuring stick here. VERY CHIC (1) had no luck from an awkward draw in that same heat here last week but caught the eye with a fast late finish, and with her gate speed here, is likely to sit on bold front runner REAL SMOOTH LOMBO (2), who was impressive when finishing off in 56.5 to win the other heat. There isn’t much between that pair and they draw to fill the best two spots in the run. BALTIC ICE (11) didn’t comes out at a vital stage and was held up before finishing well for fifth to CAPTAIN KALAHARI (7) here last week and has each way claims as does runner up in that race RUBY DAZZLER (9), a WA mare who ran a fast last lap in front and was nutted on the line. Other winning chances belong to CHARLEYS DREAM (8), a staying type who couldn’t quite muster enough sprint to run down REAL SMOOTH LOMBO (2) last week in a 56.5 last half after sitting behind him; and MYSTICAL WARRIOR (10), who’s much better than his latest couple of runs suggest. She won a heat, then ran second to the talented Hollywood Bromac the final of a recent series at Kilmore and Yarra Valley, then was wide to the breeze when beating some handy fillies in a Breeders Crown heat at Kilmore last week. She has gate speed and will either be in front or use the sprint lane. STAGHORN FLAT (7) ran third in the Australian Derby earlier this season and has done nicely in both runs since resuming; they being a first up second here to MACH TWAIN (13) and a Breeders Crown heat victory at Ballarat last week. He draws awkwardly but is a highly talented gelding. The query runner is the Mark Purdon trained Kiwi OUR IMAGINE ME (12), who ran third to Lauraella in the NZ Oaks at Addington back in May, then was narrowly beaten in 1:54.4 in a Harness Jewels race at Ashburton. She comes off a last start death seat Cambridge second when just failing to pick up the leader in a 26.9 last split. That aforementioned trio are all prepping here for; the Breeders Crown Semi-finals here next week. Best of the others are STERLISH (10), who ran a brave race when third in fast time here last week and MACH TWAIN (13), who beat STAGHORN FLAT (7) here three weeks ago but only battled when a hot favourite at Kilmore last week. ALBY ALBERT (2) is an exTasmanian who’s yet to win since coming to Dean Braun but has gone okay in recent runs, with a claiming second here to Henchman, a solid fourth at Valley to Jaccka Clive, and luckless sixth to that same horse in the final of that affair here last week. He draws perfectly, gets Alford and is dropping in class. CONFIGURATION (11) is a handy four year old who won a Moonee Valley day race back in May and went nicely at his first run back from a spell when, after working hard for the lead and being pressured into a 28.4 third split, was narrowly beaten by the talented Jaccka Sandy last week at Kilmore. He should be improved by that outing. VINTAGE JAG (5) has won eight races this season, the latest of those when beating STRIKING THUNDER (3), and ALBY ALBERT (2) at Bendigo give weeks ago. No horse has performed better in this country over the last twelve months and he finished his early season campaign with a 1:55.8 Victoria Cup win last December. Resuming at Moonee Valley six weeks ago, he pulled up distressed after having heart problems but returned to somewhere near his best with a solid victory on this circuit a fortnight ago, where he was restrained from a wide alley before working around to the lead and finished off in 56.7. TI VOGLIOBENE (6) was runner up in that race, following placings here in FFA company, then broke through for a well deserved win last week where he missed away from the stand and stormed home to win convincingly. He looks the main danger to this favourite with some chance also to OUR MALABAR (7), a ten time winner this season who won the Geelong Cup earlier this term.
