He trailed wide for most of the way and fought on well when a close Addington third on debut back in February, then drew awkwardly on the second line and got to the line well when a close fourth at Ashburton in a fast 2400 metre affair in March. DEADSETLUCKY (12) was one of Australia’s better youngsters last season, and among his five wins beat Captain Joy in a $100,000 race at Albion Park in May. Captain Joy has won 16 of 17 since. He resumed with a solid Cranbourne third from an awkward draw three weeks ago, then led all the way and finished off in 58.9 at Wagga last week. ROBBOS RETREAT (11) is an honest gelding who’s been placed in 10 of 19 with his sole victory being at Cranbourne five starts back. He’ll find this easier than recent runs, the latest when unplaced behind Bonavista Bay in a strong Breeders Crown heat nine days ago. Best of the others is FINAL REQUEST (7), who ran home nicely for second to Sandler at Yarra Valley before making ground for fourth at Ballarat during the week. MYRNIONG ART (3) and PRESTANTE (8) have place claims at least. Ratings: 4? / 12 / 11 / 7 / 3, 8. She goes best from the mobile and returns from some indifferent standing start form into a winnable race from a good alley. MR WHIZZER (9) was miles back early before flashing home for second to Shiraz Cabernet at Maryborough last Monday and looks ideally suited from behind the gate – he’ll settle a lot closer this time. BARNEYS INVASION (5) is a dual winner from the mobile and has recently won a day race at Moonee Valley and been placed in strong races at Maryborough and Shepparton. Rate him highly. FLEETWOOD BLUE (7) won back-to-back races in impressive fashion at Cranbourne and Maryborough, then made a mistake at Kilmore before racing below her best from the stand at Maryborough last Monday. Give her another chance. LOVER OR LOSER (1) was heavily supported when a close fourth at Kilmore last Monday and is sure to be prominent from the pole while JUSTACHANDON (3), a recent Cranbourne winner, showed that she’s holding her form well with a solid third at Ballarat last week. The query runner is NOOPY DUA (8), who’s well up to these but hasn’t raced since April. Ratings: 2 / 9 / 5, 7 / 1, 3 / 8? This stable has a good winning percentage and a forward showing can be expected. CLANCY ROSE (11) had the run of the race when beating Charlotte Brew on protest at Kilmore a month ago, then had no luck behind that same filly at the Valley last time. She looks best of the raced brigade but the draw is a little awkward. FRISKY RISKY RITA (9) (Life Sign – Ritas Final Fling), a John Yeomans trained filly who’s well related, and has been trailing okay here. She draws to trail into the race and must be respected. ESPSHLILUCKY LOMBO (6) hasn’t been far away without running a place in each of her five starts so far, and will be improved by her first up mid-field effort at Maryborough last Monday. Best of the others is SEATTLE GRACE (8), who went nicely when placed first up at Yarra Valley before failing in a Breeders Crown heat here last time. The other first starter is UTWO LOO (3) (Elsu – Utwo), a Mick Carbone trained filly whose dam has left five winners from nine previous foals, the best of them Ileaveitoyou, $140K and the Golden Double, $91K. A dual winner in the Sunraysia area earlier this season, he looked good in his first run for Webster when coming from well back for a close Ballarat fourth to Close Shave Lombo three weeks ago, then was luckless when mid-field on that circuit a fortnight ago. This is not a hard race and he looks the clear top pick. STAR CHEVAL (12) used the sprint lane to win at Cranbourne four starts back and has since run three placings on end, the latest when trailing wide from the rear and third here a fortnight ago. She looks well graded on her best form. OBOLLAND (10) is a tough gelding who worked hard to the breeze and battled on well when third at Kilmore last Monday night. He completes a trio of strong winning chances who all draw the second line. Best of the front brigade is THE FONZE (7), who’s been a gradual improver of late and went nicely when wide to the breeze and scoring his maiden success at Terang a fortnight ago. LORD RUFUS (6) did plenty of work and fought on well when second at Bendigo before having no luck in a strong Kilmore affair last time, and he could be the value runner. IM MARK ANTONY (1) won 10 of 18 last season and four races earlier this term before finding the class a bit hot against the likes of Smoken Up etc.in May/June. Two starts back he sat three wide for the entire trip when a gallant sixth, beaten seven metres by Village Pungee on Melton opening day, then covered ground and fought on well for fourth to Sammy Maguire in a strong lead up race in the Chariots Of Fire at Harold Park three weeks ago. He has gate speed, draws to be prominent and looks the clear top pick. SOPHIE PASS (9) beat Karlsruhe from the stand, then was too good for Kept For Pleasure in the Silver Chalice at the Valley before a tough fourth to GILT BROMAC (4) there, then began badly in a Tabcorp Park stand last week. From this draw, she’ll be sitting just off the pace and is a quality mare with strong claims. GILT BROMAC (4) is one of the top mares in commission – she’s won eight races this season and looked good when beating subsequent Melton winner Christian Melody in a strong race at the Valley three weeks ago. Rate her highly. VERANJEE (8) has won 14 races over the past two season and won three on end before class rises and tiredness caught up with him a couple of months back. He resumes from a break of two months off a Cranbourne trial victory last weekend, and drawn to trail out this favourite, may be a strong sprint lane chance. MESMERIZING (2) was close up in a fast class stand at Tabcorp Park last week and is overdue a win at this level. He’ll be mighty hard to beat. CLOSE SHAVE LOMBO (2) won back-to-back at Bendigo and Ballarat before a close fourth to Coastal at Tabcorp Park last weekend and looks best of the three front markers. He’s a winner from the stand. HEATHVALE LAD (1) had the run of the race and used the sprint lane to win from the stand at Charlton nine days ago, and draws to repeat the dose. EASTWOOD COUNTESS (3) is always a chance at this level, handles the stand and has each way claims along with standing start debutante MONICA CATHERINE (6), who’s been in good form with a Ballarat win and Kilmore placings from two runs since a break. He beat Lady Octavia in a Moonee Valley 4YO affair four runs back, then covered ground for tough thirds at Geelong and Moonee Valley before finding the lead at Tabcorp Park last week and sprinting home in 56.5 to again beat a handy 4YO field. He looks the leader and that makes his stablemate LEND US A SCORE (8) the main danger. That fellow draws to trail and use the sprint lane and looked good in a fast finishing Ballarat victory two starts back before running into traffic from an awkward second line draw behind TSUNAMI LOMBO (1) at Tabcorp Park last week. STACCATO (2) won the Breeders Crown Final as a two year old and she seems to race well at this time of the year. Her only three starts for the season have yielded a second to subsequent final winner Wyperfeld in a heat of the 4YO Super Sires, a fast finishing victory over Sophie Pass in her semifinal and a rearward finish in the final where she contacted a sulky and broke. That was back in May but she showed her readiness for this with a defeat of top FFA performer Cincinnati Kid in a Bendigo trial last Monday. OUR CULLEN (4) looked good in a Kilmore win three starts back before a luckless Ballarat effort, then was cut down late in a fast last split when narrowly beaten at Shepparton last weekend. The other main winning chance is TOGETHER WE DO (11), who was wide to the breeze when close up in a strong Tabcorp Park affair before an all the way Ararat win ten days ago. CHARISTEAS (7) and WATCHMEFELLA (10) can improve on recent efforts. Ratings: 1 / 8 / 2? / 7 / 4 / 11 / 7? 10? He had his first run for Peter Tonkin when luckless and close up behind Coastal in a strong Tabcorp Park 3YO affair last weekend, and looks ideally suited in this much easier race. Three year old fillies BLITZEM LASS (6) and SIERRA TANGO (8) both have each way claims. SIERRA TANGO (8) impressed in wins here and at Ballarat before having no luck at her latest two outings, while BLITZEM LASS (6), also a dual winner this season, wasn’t far away at Maryborough last Monday. SCENTED (2) rarely wins but has some chance from the alley, with REGAL BALL (7) looking the only other possible. Ratings: 4 / 6, 8 / 2 / 7. Suggested bet: MURPHYS ROCKET (4) to win. ALL THE BEST BEST ON TIMES: GILT BROMAC (Race 5 No.4) recorded a slick mile rate of 1.57.3 when she won the Jane Ellen last outing and will prove hard to beat again. BEST ON CLASS: CLANCY ROSE (Race 3 No.11) is the only horse competing in the Stallion Station Pace that has won a race previously so she should make her presence felt. BEST ON VIDEO: MURPHYS ROCKET (Race 8 No.4) was making his debut for trainer Peter Tonkin when he had no clear run in a strong race at Tabcorp Park last outing and will find this race easier. BEST ON RECORD: DEADSETLUCKY (Race 1 No.12) has been placed in all of his 10 starts (6 wins) and will be reaching his peak form after two runs back from a spell. BEST ON TRIALS: STACCATO (Race 7 No.2) is a speedy mare, which beat the open class pacers in a recent trial victory and is drawn to go close. BEST ROUGHIES: NOOPY DUA (Race 2 No.8) races best under the mobile conditions and should receive every chance from the inside of the second line draw. JONNY HOLLIDAY (Race 4 No.9) won a race of similar standard at Geelong in February and is better than his form reads.
