Herald Sun Form Guide : August 15th 2009
heraldsun.com.au Caulfield TODAY PROS TALKING Jason Sylvester BOOKMAKER TONIC (Caul R2 No. 11): Does rise in class but is a nice progressive type, who has drawn perfectly in gate two.Wasa very impressive winner at Sandown last start and with Luke Nolen in the saddle looks a great way for punters to start the day on a winning note. Robert Smerdon TRAINER DONNAROSSA(Caul R2 No. 7): She was a terrific run last start and actually had very little luck. She had to change course in the straight and hit the line hard to be only beaten a neck. This is a touch tougher but she’s well drawn and got some chance. TONIC (Caul R2 No. 11): Seems nicely weighted and well drawn. This is harder but I think she can measure up. DANCESCAPE(Caul R4 No. 11): This is a high class race and will give us some idea where we’re at with her. She was a bit stiff in Adelaide last start, should certainly have finished top three. That said, this is tough. SADDLER’SSTORY(Caul R5 No. 8):Astayer resuming. Will need it further. ANNESONG(Caul R7 No. 6): Bit stiff last start but terrific effort. No easier this time but she can sit about midfield from that good alley and I’m expecting her to be hitting the line. LIGHT VISION (Caul R8 No. 1): Wonthis race last year but had 7.5kg less and a better barrier. I’d be expecting him to need the run and be better second and third-up. HOT JOCKS HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT THE MAIL Matt Stewart PARLAY CAULFIELD Keen on a couple each-way. Parlay Tonic (R2), into Von Costa De Hero (R5). Herald Sun, Saturday, August 15, 2009 45 + www.tab.com.au Adrian Dunn JOCKEY CHALLENGE CAULFIELD Ollie is riding as well as ever and has some great rides for leading Flemington trainers Kavanagh and O’Brien today. At very juicy odds looks a great bet. The pair to beat: Luke Nolen and Typhoon Tracy combine in today’s Liston Stakes at Caulfield. MIDNIGHT OIL with MATT STEWART TRACK: Dead 5 PENETROMETER: 5.41 RAIL: Out 6m LAST MEETING: Out 3m Aug 1 LAST TIME OUT 6: Oct 18 2008 RAINFALL: 6mm for week RADAR: Clear 1 2 LUKE Nolen has a great book of rides at Caulfield today and despite being at a cramped price he does look a good thing. Many astute judges have Typhoon Tracy and Tonic as their best bets on the program so there is a good chance that Nolen has six points in the bank. With other rides on fancies Headway, Soaressa, With Apologies and Cape D’Amore, he looks the way to go. THE MARKET $1.65 $6.00 $7.50 $7.50 $12.00 $14.00 $26.00 $26.00 Luke Nolen Damien Oliver Any other indiv. jockey Dwayne Dunn Steven King Craig Williams Craig Newitt Brad Rawiller In a pretty ho-hum affair, the 3kg claim on FASMOSS (9) is the clincher. He also drops 6.5kg for a last start win and will appreciate the speed up front. ULYSSES (2) and RED BUTTONS (5) will race on speed and give a good kick. ON-PACERS: Best on-pace chances are Ulysses and Red Buttons. SWOOPERS: Fasmoss, Pacino. SUGGESTED BET: Something each-way No.9. sive win. She will also box-seat from perfect alley. Most of these are either first-up or not good enough to go with Tonic. Reckon MISS SCARLATTI (1) will run a blinder fresh, especially with likely strong tempo up front. Probably good thing beaten behind top class Nicconi this track-distance first-up last time and gets in OK with claim. Freedman’s first-uppers have all flown in the last fortnight. DONNA ROSSA (7) should get nice suck along from gate three and can be placed. BEL SHOES (10) is well drawn. ON-PACERS: Tonic, Partiva, Afterburn. SWOOPERS: Miss Scarlatti, Donna Rossa. SHAMOLINE WARRIOR (6) and ORINOCO (7). Starspangledbanner showed extra string to bow first-up when missed start but charged late. Has benefit of a run. Common Interest resumes. Forget Sydney run when everything went wrong. He looked a star at winning debut. Shamoline Warrior was awesome on debut but wouldn’t want to give such a start to this lot. Orinoco was a bit of a spruik runner on debut last summer, ran OK and was immediately rested. Trialled well and has tongue tie. Next best is expensive colt SHOOT THROUGH (8), who has been disappointing, but the blinkers are off and he gets firmer track and is playing at home. 3 SUGGESTED BET: Win No. 11. Can probably narrow to four: STARSPANGLEDBANNER(1), COMMON INTEREST (3), Mad keen on TONIC (11). She’s flying, relishes 1400m and drops a significant 4kg for an impres- ON-PACERS: Starspangledbanner. SWOOPERS: Common Interest, Shamoline Warrior, Orinoco. SUGGESTED BET: Maybe No. 1 each-way. 4 Lottery. Suspect the value eachway might be CORSAIRE (6), mainly because of the Mick Price-at-home factor. No match for ROSTOVA (2) in Diamond Prelude but showed good ability at two, is well drawn and had nowhere near the tough 2YO season of Rostova. Cannot ignore Rostova, whose best is better than these and has trialled well. HEADWAY (1) was super at two, all but winning the Slipper. Must include. NOESIS (7) was awesome on debut but that form is so-so and is coming off injury. COME HITHER (3) resumes after Diamond disaster. Will be very strong late. If there is to be an upset it might be the flying TARIKS (8), who is fit. ON PACERS: Tariks, Noesis SWOOPERS: Corsaire, Rostova, Headway, Come Hither SUGGESTED BET: Maybe No. 6 each-way. 5 Tricky with good horses colliding with fit ones. I deserve to be flogged if I’m off the mark, but I’m going for the costly VON COSTA DE HERO (3). Never wins but has run blinders in great races and will have last crack at them from soft alley. MAXISUN (11) was only fair last start at weight-for-age but seems well in here and is fit. COMMANDING HOPE (4) is fit and will fly late. Note VIGOR (1) has blinkers and Oliver. Untapped Caulfield Cup type. ON-PACERS: Maxisun. SWOOPERS: Von Costa De Hero, Commanding Hope, Vigor. SUGGESTED BET: Von Costa De Hero (3) each-way. THE BANKERS ON CLASS: Whobegotyou (R6 No. 10) Romneya (R7 No. 1) ON VIDEO: Starspangledbanner (R3 No. 1) ON WEIGHT: Maxisun (R5 No. 11) Bonindi (R8 No. 8) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE FOR 25%: 3,11 - 3,9,10,11,15 - 1,6,7,10 - 4,8,12,13,14 6 Epic Liston. Reckon the big field and pressure from Jungle Ruler and Benelli might make life tough for unbeaten TYPHOON TRACY (15). She may well be the next Sunline (doubt it), but this is a real deep-end test for her fresh. Safer bet is HEART OFDREAMS (11), who is such a great little racehorse. Will get gun stalking run from gate seven. Have gander at Heart Of Dreams in mounting yard — former coat rack, but blossomed last prep. WHOBEGOTYOU (10) is reportedly underdone but will be saved for one last crack. If speed is even, he’ll gobble them up. Total star. Best roughies are underrated on-pacer BENELLI (9) and fit ORANGE COUNTY (3). ON-PACERS: Typhoon Tracy, Benelli. SWOOPERS: Heart Of Dreams, Whobegotyou, Orange County. SUGGESTED BET: Heart Of Dreams each-way. 7 Tough. CATS WHISKER (7) might put herself in dominating role. Expect her to come out running from outside gate and race on-pace, then kick. ROMNEYA (1) is a gutsy little thing and classy. Will run well but 57.5kg is a worry. ANNESONG (6) was terrific last start and might be able to take up a spot from good gate. Mystery runner is former Kiwi TOOTSIE (8), who has oodles of class but coming off three-month bleeding ban. Monitor betting. WITH APOLOGIES (10) had to duck and weave last start, excellent effort. ON-PACERS: Cats Whisker. SWOOPERS: Annesong, Romneya, With Apologies. SUGGESTED BET: Go wide. BONINDI (8) will probably settle onetwo and should be there for long way. Not much between them. CAPE D’AMORE (12) will stalk that pair and will finish hard. If they’re swooping expect MISS MAREN (2), VANDALO (11), READY WHEN YOU ARE (13) and WIND SHEAR (14) to be closing. 8 ON-PACERS: Monsieur Feraud, Bonindi, Cape D’Amore SWOOPERS: Miss Maren, Vandalo, Ready When You Are, Wind Shear. SUGGESTED BET: No. 4 and no. 8 in multiples. Stick with the fit on-pacers (pending bias late in day). MONSIEUR FERAUD (4) and The BIG6 will operate on the following meetings. Caulfield gallops: Leg 1: Race 3: 1.30. Leg 2: Race 4: 2.05. Leg 3: Race 5: 2.45. Leg 4: Race 6: 3.25. Leg 5: Race 7: 4.05. Leg 6: Race 8: 4.43. Moonee Valley harness: Leg 1: Race 3: 7.32. Leg 2: Race 4: 8.02. Leg 3: Race 5: 8.30. Leg 4: Race 6: 9.00. Leg 5: Race 7: 9.30. Leg 6: Race 8: 10.00. The Meadows greyhounds: Leg 1: Race 4: 8.20. Leg 2: Race 5: 8.37. Leg 3: Race 6: 8.57. Leg 4: Race 7: 9.20. Leg 5: Race 8: 9.42. Leg 6: Race 9: 10.05. GUEST TIPSTER Denis Baguley Chief executive Shrine of Remembrance Race5Caulfield No. 1 Vigor Race6Caulfield No. 10 Whobegotyou Michael Manley ALL-UP ROSEHILL (R5 No. 6): Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready looked good winning recent Randwick trial. Take him into an all-up with the very talented Denman (R6 No. 1). Nick Quinn STRAIGHT OUT ADELAIDE (R4 No. 5): Testa Jesta put the writing on the wall with an impressive victory at Sandown last start and looks a nice emerging stayer. Trainer Peter Moody has a great record when taking horses interstate and with star Perth apprentice Jarrod Noske taking 1.5kg off his back, he looks the best bet of the day. + FB123 C M Y K DHS 15-AUG-2009 PAGE 45 FIRST
