Successful once from two runs in her homeland, she’s been placed at Horsham and twice at Ballarat since coming here, the latest when making good ground from the rear and second to Altar Of Freedom. From this good trailing draw she’ll settle a lot closer this time. MACY LILA (5) was an impressive Charlton winner three starts back, then outclassed and luckless in a Breeders Crown heat at Kilmore before making a mid-race move in an attempt to get outside the leader when unable to do that at Ballarat last week. She hasn’t started for 21 months and joins the Vince Vallelonga stable for her first Australian run. FIVEOUNCEPONY (3) ran his first placing from five starts so far when a handy second at Charlton a month ago and he should be improved by two runs from a long spell. DIPLOMATIC ENVOY (5) has made mistakes in most of his five starts so far but has shown flashes of talent and this is not a hard race. STOPNTHINK (2) was a winner at Ararat as a three year old last season, and although his recent form is nothing to write home about, draws to be in the finish. PALERMO (7) hasn’t been far away in most of his five starts with his best recent effort being a come-from-behind third in a Bendigo mobile two starts back. Forget his latest effort when unplaced and outclassed in a Cranbourne Breeders Crown heat. He won a Ballarat standing start trial last weekend. INTERROGATOR (4) has been placed in all three starts, each of those at Mildura, and comes to the Caldow stable into a winnable race. FLIGHT TO MIKINOS (9) has standing start experience – he’s been placed in 5 of 11 outings so far and should settle close enough to have a winning chance. Each way chances to MATTER OF TASTE (3), who wasn’t placed in five starts earlier this season but has trialled okay recently from the stand and KOIZORA (6), a debut mobile fifth at Ballarat a fortnight agoThe first starter is MATTER OF TASTE (3) (Shakamaker – Tamgar Lane), a David Barbetti trained gelding who was placed here in a recent standing start trial. Further improvement can be expected and he looks hardest to beat. MAD MACCA (6) worked to the lead when a clear winner of an easier race here last week and he looks a worthy rival for this favourite. INDI GLOVES (2) was recently placed at Yarra Valley and comes off a solid come-from-behind Shepparton fifth. A three time winner last season, he hasn’t won in 34 starts this term but gets his chance from the good alley over the sprint trip. WHATA BLUFF (10) has since finished a solid third in a Bendigo sprint affair and there won’t be much between them again, but with the barrier draws reversed, DANGER IN DISGUISE (5) rates as the top pick. BRATSKI (7) broke through for his maiden success when leading all the way at Maryborough last week and has enough gate speed to be across most of these when they settle. CROWN OF THORNS (3) was an improver at his fourth run back from a spell when second at Globe Derby a fortnight ago after sitting on the pace. She didn’t do much at her first twelve starts before a surprise victory here a month ago, then was placed twice at Charlton before sprinting away from her rivals for an effortless Bendigo success last week. FLEETWOOD BLUE (2) is a talented mare who doesn’t always have her mind on the job. Impressive back-to-back mobile victories at Cranbourne and here were followed by a couple of disappointing efforts but her latest run when wide in the last lap and second in a Geelong mobile twelve days ago is a pointer to her winning chance here. DELPHI ROSE (12) looked good when finding the lead off her back mark and cut down late by Si Capisco at Bendigo before weakening in recent runs there and at Shepparton after being caught outside the leader. LELIS BOY (10) finished strongly when second to stablemate The Red Team at Cranbourne last week and looks best of the others. Third in a sprint affair at Ballarat two starts back, he was badly checked at a vital stage when unplaced but not disgraced at Geelong a fortnight ago and this time draws to use his gate speed. Whatever beats him will win. LOMBO ALLIANCE (8) hasn’t won in 21 starts this season but his most recent efforts have been well up to winning a race like this. He was wide in the last lap and fought on well when third to Tear It All Away in a fast Tabcorp Park affair six weeks ago, then caught in the breeze and battled on okay when third at Cranbourne a week later. He resumes from a five week break off an excellent trial second to Mister Swinger in fast time at Ballarat last weekend. MENDELICO (7) was most impressive when a debut winner at Ballarat in all the way fashion early in June, then ran third to Ay Tee Em and Queen Of Fire when favourite in the Princess Of The Wimmera at Horsham. She went for a break after a poor run when a hot favourite here and racing too fiercely a couple of months ago, then resumed nicely at Bendigo last week when working to the lead from her second line draw and rating a fast 1:57.5 for the sprint trip. VIAREGGIO (5) won three on end, the most recent of those a Tabcorp Park country front race a month ago, before three unplaced efforts there in hot metro class 3YO affairs. These Kiwi’s usually have a class advantage when they come here and even from the wide draw, we’ll make this bloke our top pick. MAPERO MISSILE (6) showed good ability in a four race stint in April/May/June, the most recent of those efforts when leading and fourth in a strong Stawell affair. He gets Douglas and has the gate speed to cross these. SIR HUTCHY (3) has shown enough to consider him a good winning chance and is another with enough speed to find the top. She was placed five times in succession, the most recent of those when runner up to Dreamaway Vogue at Bendigo a couple of months ago, hasn’t started since a Charlton failure after that but joins the strong Peter Tonkin stable and resumes off an easy Ballarat trial victory last weekend. AMADMANCOMESUNDONE (3) is a talented three year old who’s won five this season but been outclassed in recent Breeders Crown races then found trouble in a strong Valley three year old affair last Saturday night. This is more his speed and he’s sure to make his presence felt. GEORGE STREET LAD (9) was a Charlton winner early last month before two handy Tabcorp Park efforts when finishing just behind the placegetters, then wasn’t suited when caught on the pegs and not far away in a strong Terang affair last week. Rate him highly. PARTYWITHTHEDEVIL (8) had the run of the race when winning here three weeks ago, then battled on well for fourth to Royal Steel when beaten a length in 1:58.3 for this trip at Bendigo at his latest run. He’s done plenty of work in recent seconds at Charlton, and to the in-form Tsunami Lombo at Terang last week. DONTWANTANO (10) is the class runner but hasn’t started since a Horsham placing in March. A nine time winner last season, he hasn’t won in 13 tries this term, most of those runs in much stronger fields than this. OURSANDYBEACH (2) has been thereabouts of late and is dropping to a winnable grade from a good draw. BREENYS TROUBLE (9) loomed up but didn’t go on with it when fifth to Tsunami Lombo at Terang last week but this race looks a little easier. SELECTIONS: SIRNELSON OF ASCOT (1), Dontwantano (10), Oursandybeach (2), Breenys Trouble (9). RATINGS: 1 / 10 / 2, 9 / 3, 4, 7. With a trouble free run here, she’s the one to beat. ICAN DO NO WRONG (7) led all the way to win a similar race here two starts back, then galloped early and was never a factor at Bendigo last week. She looks the other main winning chance. KEYSTONE CROWN (1) and ITSAGALE (2) were both prominent in a Terang mobile last week and draw to be in the finish.
