Placed at Kilmore and Yarra Valley at his first two runs back, he then ran fifth after leading to Villagem in a Breeders Crown heat here when outclassed but not disgraced, then worked hard and wide to find the lead at the 700 when cut down late at Terang at his latest outing. This looks his race. SMART PAY (9) is an ex-Kiwi who’s yet to miss a place in four starts since coming here, and he’s set to complete the hat trick following solid back-to-back Bendigo victories. In this small field, his second line draw won’t trouble him too much. SILENT PREDATOR (2) has finished close up in all six runs to date and he impressed with his solid finishing third in the same race as THREE BLADES (3) at Terang last time from the second line. He draws to break his maiden status. ABITMOREATTITUDE (7) is an NSW visitor who was placed as a two year old at Harold Park last season and has not had a win in four runs back from a spell. He wasn’t far away in a Breeders Crown repechage at Yarra Valley a fortnight ago, then badly shut in after finding early trouble in a strong Moonee Valley 3YO affair last weekend. In an open race, most of them can win. Ratings: 3 / 9 / 2, 7 / 5 / 1? 6. The Peter Tonkin trained KASPA KATE (11) was having her fourth start and second from a spell when overcoming an early check and far too good for her moderate opposition. The second line draw isn’t ideal but she looks a filly of the future. TAPCRACKER (2) is a Kerryn Manning trained gelding who went okay in two runs late last year and was resuming from a break of ten months when finding the lead and battling home well to win his heat, after racing greenly and looking likely to throw it away on the home turn. He’ll be much better for that outing, should lead and will be hard to catch. The best place chances are MIGHTY SUPER POWER (9) and DROPOFTHEIRISH (6), who ran second and third respectively to TAPCRACKER (2) in their heat – they were far more impressive than any of the other heat runners. Ratings: 2, 11 / 6, 9. He out-stayed the talented Billy The Brat in the run to the line when coming from the rear to win a strong Maryborough affair on Redwood day, then was never a chance there last time after a slow beginning. He looks better than these and even if he’s tardy early, will be close enough to run by them. BARNEYS INVASION (8) is a consistent gelding who doesn’t win overmuch. His sole victory from 22 starts this season was in a Moonee Valley day affair back in June and he’s raced well since coming off a Shepparton second to Billy The Brat, a death seat Geelong third with a flat tyre, and a solid second at Shepparton nine days ago. HANGINTHERE (5) returned to form with an excellent second to Question This here a fortnight ago, when coming from the rear and finding the lead on the home turn and beaten a nose. She looks back to her best and this is an extremely winnable race for her. IDOL EXTROVERT (1) won two races earlier this season and since being taken over by local trainer Stephen Clarke, has shown gradual improvement this time in. He worked hard early and battled on well when fifth to Question This here last time and from the pole, may give them something to chase. AIDAN ANABETTIN (3) bobs up on occasions and has claims, with the query runner being BIG SUEMOSAM (9), an ex-Kiwi who’s won 4 of 59 but hasn’t started since an Invercargill failure back in May. Ratings: 6 / 5, 8 / 1 / 3 / 9? Suggested bet: TIGER TUFF (6) to win. A handy filly who’s won four races this season, she finished well from the rear when third to Effective Torque here three starts back, then had the run of the race when a length second in a Kilmore Breeders Crown heat to last week’s semi final winner Make Mine Cullen, before finishing close up when third to Keppel Bay and Ananz in a repechage of that series at Yarra Valley. She has gate speed, draws to use it, and looks suited over the sprint journey. ADRENALYN (4) won four races earlier this season and indicated he’s not far off another win when held up and finishing well for second here last Monday night. A handy Peter Tonkin trained colt, he looks nicely graded against these. WHAT AM I (7) is another multiple winning three year old who comes off back-to-back victories at Bendigo and Yarra Valley and a luckless unplaced Moonee Valley effort last weekend. His wide draw is negated by the small field and he’ll settle close enough to use his finishing sprint. DUAL AGENT TABMAN (9) is a tough one-paced three year old who’s also won three races this term and comes off a Bendigo second, and close up finishes in strong metro 3YO affairs at Melton and Moonee Valley. A FALCON CAN (8) is a four time winning colt this season who’s resuming from a short break into a winnable race. The query runner is ROCKETROD CULLEN (6), who hasn’t stared since winning at Maryborough 11 months ago. A Tony Dillon trained 4YO, he’s been trialling well and this stable usually has them ready for first up success. Ratings: 1 / 4 / 7, 9 / 6, 8? / 2. He beat Staghorn Flat with a flying finish in a country front affair at Tabcorp Park four starts back and comes off a handy third there to that same horse when flashing home from near last in a metro class 3YO affair a fortnight ago. Whatever beats him will win. CLOSE SHAVE LOMBO (1) is another four time winning three year old who followed back-to-back victories at Bendigo and here with a Tabcorp Park fourth to Coastal, and luckless efforts when badly away from the stand at Geelong and when shut in in a Moonee Valley 3YO affair last weekend. He’ll give plenty of cheek from the pole. BARRIETTAS JOY (2) ran her best race for some time when leading in the home straight and cut down late by the in-form Muckinbar Lady at Terang last week, and she has each way claims from the good barrier. MONICA CATHERINE (8) is a consistent mare who won first up here a month ago, then was runner up at Kilmore before finishing fast for second to Johnorama in a Geelong stand a fortnight ago. Rough chances to MAZARAHTI (7), who went nicely when a first up fifth at Maryborough ten days ago; and NAKASAKI MAGOO (9), who’ll be improved by a second here recently when having his first run since March. He was held up from his back mark when resuming and close up at Tabcorp Park three weeks ago, then not far away when sixth to Melpark Major in a 1:55.6 sprint FFA before missing away badly and tailing out from the stand at the Valley last week. He looks a graded certainty. CHARLEYS DREAM (7) is a tough gelding who has his first Free For All crack. Second after having the run of the race to Real Smooth Lombo at Melton three starts back, he ran third in the final of that Tabcorp Park Cup to Captain Kalahari a week later, then didn’t have much go his way when close up and seventh as favourite from the stand at Moonee Valley last weekend. He looks the only danger to this favourite. ROMEO CASTLE (6) is a talented gelding who’ll be improved by two runs back from a spell and has each way claims along with FLAMIN TACT (8), who hasn’t raced for some time and resumes for new trainer Tracy Moule – he’s been competitive at this level in the past. Ratings: 4 / 7 / 6, 8? Suggested bet: Multi trifecta 4 to win, 6, 7, 8 for second with the field for third. He was beaten under a length when fourth to Melpark Major in 1:55.6 for the sprint trip under FFA conditions at Tabcorp Park a fortnight ago and although drawn wide, is the class factor on his 11 wins from 26 starts this season. WATTABOUT JASPER (3) had fair form in the Sunraysia area before blowing away a handy field in all the way fashion at Moonee Valley last weekend. He’s since been transferred to Larry Eastman, draws to lead again, and if he runs up to last week’s effort, will be mighty hard to catch. SHARDONS ROCKET (1) is an honest gelding who’s won 8 of 19, the latest of those a Moonee Valley stand four starts back. He’s had no luck in recent runs there and at Tabcorp Park, and this time gets a decent alley. ISLAND TANGO (11) came off a wide trail to win impressively at Tabcorp Park five weeks ago and was luckless in two subsequent runs there before galloping late when looking a likely placegetter in a sprint race at the Valley last weekend. He grades well against these and has strong each way claims. MCLLHATTON (5) hasn’t won this season but been placed seven times, most of those in town. He led when second to Cant Bluff Me in a 1:56.5 mile at the Valley last week and looks nicely suited here on his home track. Best of the others is VILLAGE GLOW (2), who can beat these with a soft trip. Ratings: 7 / 1, 3? / 5, 11 / 2 / all others. A three year old who’s won three of eight in this, his first season of racing, he’ll be improved by two runs from a spell, they being a handy Breeders Crown heat fourth here to Living On Fire a month ago, and a luckless unplaced run in a Yarra Valley repechage of that series. BRIALINGER BOY (4) had poor form before going for a short break but beat fast class performer Veranjee in a trial at Cranbourne last weekend and he looks the danger. POWERFUL TYCOON (6) is an honest gelding who led when second at Terang last week and he has each way claims along with to a lesser extent honest performers LORD RUFUS (5) and TCEESAFLYN (8), who gets Alford. Ratings: 7 / 4, 6 / 5, 8. Suggested bet: SHOT FROM THE HIP (7) to win. ALL THE BEST BEST ON TIMES: TAPCRACKER (Race 2 No.2) was the fastest heat winner of the 3yo series by nearly two and a half seconds and was having his first run since October so he should prove hard to beat again. BEST ON CLASS: BULLEE BULLEE (Race 7 No.7) raced against Melpark Major in the free for all at Tabcorp Park last outing and is aM3 assessed pacer taking on the C7-C8 class so he looks well graded this evening. BEST ON VIDEO: ADRENALYN (Race 4 No.4) was held up badly for a run until the final 100m and finished quickly in the latter stages at Ballarat on Monday. He is capable of going one better here with the right luck in running. BEST ON RECORD: SHARDONS ROCKET (Race 7 No.1) has been placed in 20 of his 27 starts and has built up a good strike rate since coming from New Zealand. He is a fast beginner and is drawn to receive every chance. BEST ON TRIALS: DJIBOUTI (Race 1 No.1) won a recent trial at Terang by15mand recorded a final half of 59.3 seconds so he is worth thought from the pole position. BEST ROUGHIE: BOLAC BOY (Race 2 No.10) ran a better race at his second career start when he worked into the clear in the final 100m and finished solidly. He should continue to improve with the benefit of racing and rates as an each way chance. BEST MULTI BET: Flexi Trifecta Race 5: 1,5,8/ 1,2,5,8/ 1,2,5,6,8,9 (Cost $20, which gives 55.55%) BEST INTERSTATE: IM AGENTEIGHTYSIX (Newcastle Race 8 No.6) settled in the second half of the field and motored home for second (Neck) to Wall Of Silence last week.
