Now a five year old, he did his early racing in Tasmania and since coming to the mainland, failed twice before a solid Kilmore victory, then narrow defeat by the in- form Trojan Luck at Maryborough. He caught the eye here last week in a much stronger race than this when trailing from well back in the final circuit and running home solidly for third to Sarum Prince in a blistering 1:54.6 sprint affair, and looks ideally suited from the pole against these. ROYAL STEEL (4) had things his own way in front and staved off many late challenges when scoring at Maryborough last week and has a good chance of repeating that effort. Stablemate SPIDER NELSON (10) is an in-and-out customer who won at Shepparton four starts back and put up a top effort when second to Charleys Dream in a strong Moonee Valley affair three weeks ago. Forget his last start Shepparton failure when forced to do far too much work up front and weakening in the home straight. Talented mare SHOW ME AMBER (8) beat By The Sword at Horsham recently, then was wide in the final circuit when beaten a length into fifth place by Staccato in a strong mares race here last week. She'll get a soft trailing trip and can be expected to show up in the closing stages. Honest performer MISTER RHYS (13) has a wonderfully consistent record and each way claims despite the awkward draw. Best of the others is LANDSCAPE (6), who's a handy performer when right and will be improved by recent racing. Most of these can win with the right sort of trip. Ratings: 1/4,8,10,13/6/2,3,5,11? If he trots all the way he should win, but it's a big "if". MISSY CALDER (6) also made mistakes in that Kilmore race when resuming but showed up well and is a talented mare who's in the same boat as the favourite as far as reliability is concerned. Each way chances to stablemates CARLETONHILL (1) and WINDY DOLLAR (9) along with NOOPY DUA (2), who's on the improve, and SOSOCLASSY (3), who was a big improver when second to Gentlemans Honour here last week. Ratings: 7/1,2,3,6,9/4,9. Suggested bet: WESTWOOD CASTLETON (7) to win. Q4 1 Tabcorp Park Melton Pace 6.40 2240m. $5000. He's only raced twice for a close and luckless second here in a similar race to Algranco Alive three weeks ago, then he drew awkwardly on the second line of a Kilmore sprint affair last week when wide in the last lap and fighting on well for third. He's been looking for this extra distance and is well suited by the spacious Tabcorp Park circuit. ROBBOS RETREAT (9) has only won one of 22 but been placed ten times. His form last season was around better than what he meets here and he'll be improved by his luckless first up fifth at Cranbourne a fortnight ago. TAB ONE (11) hasn't finished further back than fourth in his last nine starts. A dual winner late last year, he's working back into some good form judging by his solid second to Manwarra Keentorun at Kilmore last week, where he made two moves and fought on solidly. TORADO FELLA (8) didn't do much at his first two starts then was a battling all the way Shepparton winner at his latest run, six weeks ago. He looked sharp when winning a recent trial here from an awkward barrier and is a genuine improver. Best of the others is WITCHWAYWENDY (12), who did plenty in the run when third to Manwarra Keentorun at Kilmore last time -- she looks well graded as the winner of two races as a three year old last season. PARTY MAKER (1) is also in the mix. Ratings:10/9,11/8,12/1/4. Suggested bet: PATS ACE (10) to win. 2 Bendigo Bank Trotters Hcp 7.10 2240m. $5000. He looks the clear top pick. JUSTACHANDON (9) won three races last season and has been placed in three of five this term. She ran a close second here to LEFT ONE EYE OUT (11) three starts back (meets her ten metres better), then was runner up to top performer Gentlemens Honour at Kilmore before running into traffic when fourth at Geelong last weekend. LEFT ONE EYE OUT (11) followed an all the way victory over JUSTACHANDON (9) at Kilmore with a come- from-behind success over that fellow and LASTINGIMPRESSIONS (10) here three weeks ago and is in career best form. Next best are LASTINGIMPRESSIONS (10), who's been placed in all five runs this season and due a breakthrough; and JOULE COUNT (12), who was placed in a strong race at Ballarat before beginning badly at Maryborough last Monday. DONTFENCEMEIN (10) is the quality runner and will be improved by two runs from a spell against much better than these. He didn't have much racing room when unplaced in "The Gammalite" here last weekend and is dropping in grade big time. FLYING CLASS (9) won an MO affair here four starts back and has been placed in two of three at Harold Park since. He fought on well when third from the breeze there last Friday night and looks nicely graded against these. WALTON VAN (7) finished well for third to Prince Bonton in a "Claiming Masters" heat here three weeks ago before weakening in the final after a wide last lap. He grades well against these and will be vastly improved by those two runs from a spell. Each way chances to MISTER DOUGLAS (1), who was badly held up in a claimer here last week; BOLD RAIDER (4), who resumes from a short break and will improve on his latest formline; THE TIMELY TRADER (5), who didn't have much luck in that "Claiming Masters Final"; and ROCKET WARRIOR (8), who worked hard in the breeze when a close third at this level here last week. STRANGEASITSOUNDS (3), who won three races last season, has been racing consistently and put in a big run last start at Geelong when eased to the rear, wide from the 1100 and fighting on well at the end of a 56.2 last half for fourth to Pacific Playgirl. GIVEUSACHANCE (5) ran a bold race in front when weakening late to be beaten just over a length into seventh place by Staccato in a much stronger mares race than this here last week. She looks ready to win. BECKY CEE (2) ran a brave claiming third at Kilmore last week when fighting on well after attacking the early leader. She hasn't won for a long time but gets her chance here. CULLENS ACE (6) has raced twice from a short break and finished just behind the placegetters in both, which were much stronger races than this. A highly talented youngster a couple of seasons back, she's only raced four times over the past two seasons and is sure to be fitter for those recent efforts. LOLA BROMAC (1) seems to have lost the form she displayed when first coming here from New Zealand but wasn't far away at Maryborough last time and has the gate speed to run a bold race from this alley. Stablemate BARRIETTAS JOY (8), along with recent Maryborough winner MAY BE CRAZY (4), are also in the mix. Ratings:3,5/2,6/1/4,8. IMAGINALITY (4) was having her second run for the in-form Larry Eastman stable when sitting behind ALGRANCO ALIVE (7) and sprinting powerfully in the closing stages to win her heat. A similar situation may eventuate with COROMANDEL PRINCE (6) and ALGRANCO ALIVE (7) both having the gate speed to cross, and she should be able to use the sprint lane again. The other heat winner MENDELICO (8) made it three on end with a giant effort to beat leader COROMANDEL PRINCE (6) in their heat, in a race where she drew awkwardly, was wide to the breeze at the bell, pressured a 28.1 third split, and prevailed by a metre at the end of a 56.4 last half. She draws a little awkwardly but provided that run hasn't taken too much out of her, has an excellent winning chance. COROMANDEL PRINCE (6) has been a big improver this time in and will be hoping to get across these and lead again. If he does, he'll be a hard nut to crack. Best of the others are DANISH KING (1) who won from the breeze at Maryborough before drawing poorly in his heat; BEAU DILINGER (2), who wasn't disgraced when fifth in his heat and draws perfectly here; and ALGRANCO ALIVE (7), who won a CO affair here before leading when second to IMAGINALITY (4) last Monday.. He hasn't won for nearly a year but recent efforts when third from the breeze at Ballarat then a solid second at Kilmore a fortnight ago, indicate he's close to a breakthrough. DARK DUNCAN (2) is the query runner. A Glenn Douglas trained ex-Kiwi who's won 2 of 50 with 12 placings, this seven year old gelding hasn't started since an Invercargill failure back in March but grades well at this level and has the draw. JONNY HOLLIDAY (9) won a similar race to this at Ballarat in August, then was runner up at Kilmore and Bendigo before having no luck behind Sewinyaface here three weeks ago. He rated 2:01.7 to win a trial here last Monday night by 23 metres, so must be considered a strong winning chance. SUDDEN FURY (4) is an old timer who's been runner up twice at Maryborough sandwiched around a fourth to Sewinyaface here, and the old boy has each way claims. Best of the others are stablemates TASCA (3), who was placed three times on end before dropping out after a hard run at Maryborough last time; and SHOT FROM THE HIP (7), who'll be improved by two unplaced runs from a short break. Squaregaiter MONTROSE KID (5) has trialled okay for his return and is also in the mix along with NO MATTER WHAT (11), who's claim to fame is beating Renaissance Man in a race here back in July -- he'll be improved by two runs this time in.
