That was his first Aussie start and first since March, so he ll be even fitter for this winnable assignment. VAN CELOT ROBYN (1) hasn t put a foot wrong in her nine starts since coming from New Zealand, winning five of them and finishing second three times. She doesn t have brilliant gate speed, so may be headed off early by the favourite and use the sprint lane. A tough mare, she was wide in the last lap when winning back- to-back events here late last month, then again did all the work from a second line draw when cut down late at Mildura last week. CAMS ATOM (9) was a more-than-handy youngster who s now a seven year old and doesn t win overmuch these days. Two runs from a spell early last month were ordinary efforts but he s recently been transferred to top local trainer Greg Cramp and Greg has a habit of improving this type of horse. JAZZY ART (2) was having her second run back when a tough Shepparton winner last Monday and from the draw she looks the other winning chance. Ratings:4/1/9/2. Suggested bet: Trifecta 1 and 4 to win and run second with 2 and 9 for third. 2 Majestic Son Pace 7.00 2170m. $5000. He led all the way to score on this circuit early last month, then was wide to the breeze from the second line when a close second at Mildura, then stormed home from his back row draw to win impressively at Mildura eleven days ago. He grades well at CO level as the winner of three of his latest four starts. NOVI SAD (2) is a lightly raced five year old who ran his second placing from nine starts when leading and cut down late at Mildura recently. He has gate speed and draws to use it. PARTY MAKER (6) is a Lance Justice trained gelding who s only been placed in one of 16, all much closer to town. He didn t have much luck when mid-field at Geelong two starts back, then was outclassed at Tabcorp Park eight days ago but will find this a big class drop and bar the favourite, is as good as any of these. CRUSADER LASS (9) was a dual three year old winner last season and resumed well with a fast finishing third at Echuca last week. She has each way claims along with the Douglas trained GYRO SPIRIT (8), a last start Globe Derby placegetter, and to a lesser extent GOLDIES SON (4) and LORD LANCELOT (5). Ratings:3/2/6,9/8/4,5. Suggested bet: Flexi trifecta 3 to win, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 for second with the field for third. $27.00 gets you 20% 3 Carbine Chemicals Pace 7.30 1765m. $5000. A handy three year old last season and juvenile before that, he s won 5 of his 26 starts but not started since a placing in a heat of the Mildura Guineas and down the track finish in the Final of that series back in April. KNICKERAMA (2) took 27 starts to break through for his maiden success but has since won three of nine, the latest at Mildura eleven days ago where he worked hard taking on the leader (28.8 first split of the mile) and fought on solidly to beat MASTER WES (3). He draws to be in front once more and will be hard to run down. SENOR BANDERAS (7) was having his fifth career start when a big improver to win at the latest Mildura meeting where he sat three wide for a long way and was too strong for Novi Said. He ll have to do it hard again from this draw, but looks a likely type. JUSTA JEM LOMBO (6) was an all the way Charlton winner last month and hasn t been far away in three runs since. With Kerryn on board, she must rate a winning hope. Chances also to WRINKLE KNUTT (1), who s disappointed twice since a Mildura victory a month ago, and TRUCKIES ART (5), a Mildura winner back in March, who s finished close up at Shepparton in both runs since resuming. Ratings:8/2/6,7/5/1. Suggested bet: RIP N BURN (8) to win. 4 Swan Hill Stockfeeds Pace 8.02 2170m. $5000. He d only won two of 22 before being taken over by Geoff Allen late last season, and has since racked up five wins from his ten starts. He qualified for the Breeders Crown 4YO Final back in August and not long after that won a hat trick of races here, at Echuca and at Kilmore, then put up a top effort at his latest run when seventh to Bonavista Bay in the Melton Plate at Tabcorp Park a fortnight ago when making late ground in near track record time. FRANCO AMBASSADOR (1) is the testing material. A Lance Justice trained ex-Kiwi who won four races last season, he finished off with seconds at Tabcorp Park and Kilmore and a disappointing Geelong failure and this is his first run since July. He has gate speed and is sure to be prominent from the pole (with perhaps MYBILLY JASPER (8) sitting behind him). URBANE BROMAC (2) is an honest type who hasn t won for nearly a year. He hasn t been disgraced in recent runs, the latest a mid-field finish at Shepparton last Monday behind Bed Socks after a wide trip. MASTER WARATAH (5) is a handy local performer who s won 13 of 37 with 11 placings. He battled on okay in a fast last lap when third at Mildura last time and will appreciate his best draw for some time. SHOWDOWNATMIDNIGHT (3), who won the Central Victorian Championship at Charlton back in February, has disappointed in three runs this time in but is due to show something and he draws to improve. Chances also to STRIKE A LIFE (4), a recent Mildura winner who weakened after a tough trip there last time; and the Glenn Douglas trained OUR SAND FLY (6), who won four races last season and comes off a Harold Park win and placing and a disappointing effort there a fortnight ago. WATTABOUT JASPER (4) has been racing well in metro company and looks nicely graded. He followed a death seat Maryborough second a fortnight ago with a solid seventh from the breeze in a Valley stand last weekend and importantly, has the gate speed to find the lead. TRIPLE VANCE (3) is a more-than-handy gelding who s won 16 of 46. He won a heat and ran fourth in the final from a backmark in the Premier s Cup at the Gold Coast in June, then began badly in a Bendigo stand before a luckless first up fourth from the stand at the Valley last week. He ll be much improved for that run. SCOTLAND THE BRAVE (9) finished well from the rear for third to Eagles Blood in a fast Shepparton affair before running into traffic problems at the Valley last week. He ll be sitting just off them and has a strong finishing burst Ratings: 3, 4/9/1,5,6.. Suggested bet: Box trifecta 3, 4 and 9.. 6 Amp Jim Roberts Trot Cup 9.02 2570m. $12000. A speedy beginner, she ll be up with the leaders before too long and the handicap mark shouldn t worry her too much. SI CAPISCO (2) is a wonderfully consistent gelding who s won 9 of 28 with 13 placings. A Bendigo backmark winner in July, he then ran second at Tabcorp Park, then second in the Breeders Crown 4YO heat to I Didnt Do It before chasing home and running second to Skyvalley in a track record 1:59.3 in the final at his latest run. That was nearly two months ago and there may be some query about his fitness. UNE DE MAI (3), a stablemate of DREAM A MOMENT (8), looks nicely suited from the front line. She won 7 of 15 last season and after a couple of down the track Tabcorp Park finishes, battled on well there last time when mid-field after a wide last lap. SHIRAZ CABERNET (1) comes off back-to-back placings at Melton and a Moonee Valley third last week with each way claims from the good alley. Next best if SPEEDY NAOMI (5), who ran a brave second to Kyvalley Mac at Tabcorp Park before finding trouble at the Valley last week, with CILLAS EARL (6) and EARL OF MOT (7) (first up) having place claims at least. It s a tall order to win from the back around this tight circuit but with the quality runners drawn down the bottom, I ll stick with the class. KARLSRUHE (12) looked back to somewhere near his best with a fast finishing Moonee Valley standing start success three runs back, then pulled good ground off Smoken Up and Melpark Major when fifth to that pair under FFA conditions before not coming out at a vital stage and flashing home late for a length fourth to Ohoka Nevada in a track record stand at Tabcorp Park a fortnight ago. SINGASONGASIXPENCE (11) was an outstanding Tabcorp Park winner after a wide trip three starts back, then found the lead for an easy mobile victory there before failing to get around them from his back mark when a $1.50 favourite and sixth there last week. A more aggressive drive should see him hard to beat. OHOKA UTAH (13) is a classy customer who s won 12 of 39. Second in the Inter Dominion Consolation at the Gold Coast back in March, he followed with an Easter Cup win at Launceston from this mark in April, then came from 40 metres for a close third at Horsham seven weeks after that. At his only run since, he finished mid-field in the Shire Of Melton Sprint in 1:53.4 in early July, and may need the run. NOTASWETHORT (5) may be the best of three handy front markers with strong claims. He made two moves when scoring from the stand at the Valley last week and looks back to the form that won him six of eight late last season. TROJAN LUCK (4), who s never run from the stand, is in career best form with recent Maryborough and Moonee Valley successes and solid seconds at Tabcorp Park sandwiched around an unlucky unplaced effort in the Melton Plate. THAT S MISTER ALI (7) is always a chance at this level and his three runs from a spell have been excellent, culminating in a come-from-behind sprint success at Tabcorp Park a fortnight ago. In the mix also are FOR GRANTED (1), who s racing well but never started from the stand; OUR MADAGASCAR (2), who has standing start ability and drops in grade on his latest two runs; RACY ROCKET (8), who s been placed in metro races at his latest three (beaten narrowly after a wide last lap by NOTASWETHORT (5) at the Valley last week); and MR CLANCY (9), who won 8 of 24 last season and loves the stand.
