He should be able to work to the lead once more and is the one to beat. PAYUSINHUNDREDS (6) came from an impossible position to win score in that race mentioned above two runs ago, which gives him an undeniable chance in this today. BIG BAD SHADY (5) has been luckless his past two and with his good turn of speed the small field will suit him down to the ground. BARRIETTAS JOY (3) looms as the upset material but she is untried from behind the tapes. SELECTIONS: PARWAN ROCKET (4), Payusinhundreds (6), Big Bad Shady (5), Barriettas Joy (3) RATINGS: 4/ 5,6/ 3/ 1,2 SUGGESTED BET: Flexi First Four 4,5,6/ 4,5,6/ 3,4,5,6/ 1,2,3,4,5,6 (Cost $20, which gives 55.56%) 2 Charlton Mensland 1.53 2100m. $5000. He draws to receive every hope and he has the 'Douglas Factor'. His stable mate FAROUK (4) was a claiming winner at Globe Derby three runs ago and although he was pretty plain at Maryborough last time he might be the improver. GLEES JASPER (5) was held up badly behind the tiring leader at Warragul and once he got clear he hit the line well for fourth behind Timesonyourside in slippery fractions. He draws a touch awkwardly today but with luck he'll be in the finish. His stable mate THE URBAN LEGEND (6) ground out a tough win at Geelong two back then he had to do too much work in the run and weakened out of it at Warragul. This is an easier claimer today and he has each way claims. SELECTIONS: FANTASTIC GUY (1), Farouk (4), Glees Jasper (5), The Urban Legend (6) RATINGS: 1/ 4/ 5,6/ 2,3,7 SUGGESTED BET: FANTASTIC GUY (1) to win 3 Bayswater Jayco 2.29 2100m. $5000. For that reason I'm sticking with the reliable MAGGIE TRUSCOTT (6). She hit the line well for third two back at Horsham behind MALS IMAGE (4) then she copped a check and was put out of play at Ararat last time. She'll be good each way odds and she has the services of the inform Adam Crettenden. CLASSIC MAPLE (8) got back into the winners list in an easier race then this here last start but she did it comfortably and 'Dasher' sticks with her. MALS IMAGE (4) is first up for Graham McDermott today and he has the right type of form to win this however he is VERY risky from the tapes. Should he get away he'll be a force to be reckoned with. WINDY DAWN (5) is in the same basket as MALS IMAGE (4), plenty of ability but so often from the stand especially manners let him down. They are the only winning hopes with MEGS CLASSIC (2) and SALDANA (3) the ones to throw in your exotics. She was fourth to Make Mine Cullen at Moonee Valley two back then she had a tough run and weakened out of it to finish near last behind Mister GNP at Tabcorp Park. This is eons easier she should win. The main place hopes are the well drawn DUART CASTLE (1) who resumes today after a four month spell, ARE CEE DEE (7) gets in well with the claim for Ellen Tormey and although he has drawn the car park he will more than likely press forward and race handy while ADVANCE DUNDEE (8) and ITS SHANBALLYBOCT (4) look the blow outs. I'm tipping she can't and that changes the whole complexion of the race. For that reason I'm going with ASAFA (10). He has only had the one run back from an injury-enforced layoff, which was a super second behind classy mare Lady Octavia at Tabcorp Park 15 days ago. He'll benefit greatly from the run and watch for him to be steaming down the centre of the track. MYSTICAL JET (1) has been in fine form since joining Tony Dillon. She has won three of her past seven and as strange as it sounds she just needs a slice of luck from the draw to be a major player. V O TWO (8) is a lovely little sit-sprinter who will also require some fortune but if she gets a late split she can surprise. SOMOYA (7) looms as the value in the affair. He has been going really well since joining Larry Eastman. His effort at Tabcorp Park last time was better than it looks on paper and I think he'll press forward today from his wide alley. The ones with the best hope of providing a knockout are IMA GIFT (2) and GEORGE SAMUEL (6). I think the remainder of them will be fighting for minor prize money. HARBHACAT (8) might be the one at value to fill the quinella spot with the likelihood of him getting the gun run on the pegs behind this hot favourite. SEYMOURJASPER (2) boxed on well after parking out in his heat and from his good draw he has strong place prospects plus he'll have the fitness improvement factor, as that effort was his first in over a year. DOUTZEN (6) has finished runner up her past three including here in her heat behind HELAVAGEM (1). The wide draw is an issue but she versatile. The best of the rest are the other heat winners JAMES WASHINGTON (5) and VILLAGE PATROL (11). She moves to the second row today but she is just as adept coming off the speed and she is the one to beat. GOLD TARGET (11) got to the lead in his heat and although he wasn't impressive he never looked in doubt. The back row will test him but he seems to be a one paced type and I'm sure he'll be put into the race early. WATERSLIDE (8) got the best run ever seen through along the pegs and won untouched in her heat from this exact barrier. She may not be as fortuitous this time round but she is a winning chance nonetheless. GREYGREY (6) looks like she will be the pilot but she does fire up in her races and that leaves her vulnerable but she has sound place claims along with DREAM HOLME (1), DORANELLY (2), JATIKI MISS (3), PINAROO JILL (4), IT IS WHAT IT IS (5) and PACIFIC OPUS (12). STOPNTHINK (4) boxed on ok for fourth behind Danger In Disguise at Horsham two back then he worked hard from his back row draw and was totally outclassed by Antsinyapants at Ararat. He'll find this more to his liking and he'll be up on the pace. OSCARS ACE (9) has been steadily improving and his fifth behind Antsinyapants last time wasn't a bad effort. He'll get a good run through from the second row and might represent some value in a tricky race. GEMS GALORE (6) had the right form to win one of these prior to her disappointing seventh at Tabcorp Park after leading. She needs to lift but she can be forgiven for one bad run. Picture: DARREN McNAMARA PRINT LANE with ADAM HAMILTON Fined: Glenn Douglas Mick starts NZ tour THE first of the Australian raiders starts his New Zealand Cup raid today. Remarkable veteran Karloo Mick is one of the favourites for today's star-studded Ashburton Flying Stakes. The nine-year-old winner of 46 races impressed in a standing-start trial win at Addington Paceway in Christchurch on Wednesday, clocking 2min 1.4sec for 2600m, home in 56.5sec and 28.8sec. Trainer Barry Lew took the reins in the trial, but has flown in regular race driver Greg Bennett for today's race at 1.57pm. Karloo Mick's rivals today include New Zealand Cup big guns Changeover, Mr Feelgood and Bondy. Just as much cup interest will focus on today's last race at Ashburton (3.36pm), where mare Kiwi Ingenuity, the $3.20 cup favourite, resumes from a spell in a restricted-class race. Karloo Mick and Smoken Up are Australia's definites for the NZ Cup at Addington on November 10. Trainer-driver Luke McCarthy said Washakie could also make the trip across from Queensland if he won impressively at Albion Park on Saturday night. Smoken digs deep NEXT stop New Zealand. That's what triumphant trainer-driver Lance Justice was thinking after Australasia's fastest pacer Smoken Up scored one of most courageous wins of his stellar career in yesterday's Popular Alm Sprint (1690m) at Kilmore. It was the perfect final lead- upracetotheNZCupon November 10. ''I'm hoping to watch the Melbourne Cup, then head to the airport and see this guy off to New Zealand on the plane that night,'' Justice said. ''I couldn't have asked for a better send-off. He was fantastic today. He just kept finding for me.'' Smoken Up did all the work outside the leader, Diamonds N Furs, in very strong winds and still lifted to win after being clearly headed by arch rival Melpark Major along the sprint lane. Smoken Up's NZ Cup odds were slashed from $21 to $9 straight after yesterday's outstanding win. ''I've really just had him ticking along for quite a while, but with New Zealand coming up, I've got more serious. He'll still improve on what he did today,'' Justice warned. Major recognition MELPARK Major was beaten yesterday, but he did have a win at the weekend. Alan Tubbs' superstar won the Victorian Horse of the Year crown at Melton's Tabcorp Park on Friday night. Other category winners were: Lady Belladonna (2YO Filly); Renaissance Man (2YO Colt/Gelding); Rostevarren (2YO Trotter); Broadways Best (3YO Filly); Bonavista Bay (3YO Colt/Gelding); Let Me Thru (3YO Trotter); Sundons Gift (Trotter of the Year). Costly mistake STEWARDS fined trainer Glenn Douglas $2000 for what they deemed was an honest mistake in presenting the wrong horse to race in the fourth event at Kilmore yesterday. Junior steward Amy Glide notified chief steward James Hitchcock shortly before the fourth race that a standard check of the brands showed the horse due to run as Our Madagascar was in fact stablemate No Till, who was due to contest a later race. ''We discovered the problem four minutes before scheduled start time and declared the horse a late scratching because there was insufficient time to prepare Our Madagascar, who was at the track, for the race,'' Hitchcock said. ''When we notified Mr Douglas, he swore at stewards and threw his helmet down. He was fined another $1000 for misconduct on that front.'' No Till contested the eighth race and finished a well- beaten eighth to Galveron. THE HEROES SMOKEN UP (That's as good as he's gone for a year) TONY PEACOCK (Landed a long-range plan with Ohoka Nevada) DAMIAN WILSON (First Kilmore Cup drive was a winner) GEOFF WEBSTER (His stable is flying) TAB SPORTSBET (Fixed odds on all races at Kilmore yesterday) MISS DEVILLE (Very serious mare) HUTCHY'S BLACK BOOK HELAVAGEM (Most impressive debut. Should win today) SEVEN NATIONS (Handy mare who scored well at first start for David Murphy) MORE SASSIE LOMBO (Talented mare roaring through classes) RETAINED (Redwood winner back to peak form) LANDSCAPEARTIST (Finished off in 57.6sec to win at Warragul last week) MATAI ZINGA (Will just keep winning) COMING UP A BIG Melbourne Cup weekend of harness racing opens at Tabcorp Park on Friday, as the trotters take centre stage in the $20,000 Group 3 The George Gath. The Maryborough Gold Cup carnival kicks off on Sunday, with the $25,000 Mary- borough Cup on Monday. Other key races this week: Today: the NZ Cup Carnival build-up continues with the $75,000 Group 2 Ashburton Flying Stakes. Friday: $20,000 Brian Hancock Cup at Harold Park; $50,000 Group 2 Mount Eden Sprint at Gloucester Park.
