Herald Sun Form Guide : November 7th 2009
heraldsun.com.au Herald Sun, Saturday, November 7, 2009 45 + + FB123 C M Y K DHS 7-NOV-2009 PAGE 45 FIRST www.tab.com.au Flemington TODAY HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT PROS TALKING HOT JOCKS Track lover: Emirates Stakes contender Vigor has won five of his seven starts at Flemington. MIDNIGHT OIL with TIM HABEL TRACK: Dead 5 PENETROMETER: 4.92 Inside: 4.87 Outside 4.86 RAIL: Out 8m RAIL THURSDAY: Out 5m LAST TIME OUT 8m: April 25 RAINFALL: Nil IRRIGATION: 10mm since Thursday RADAR: Clear 1 Five debut winners and some well-bred youngsters among the eight unraced make this a raffle. MARMAA (1), SHE'S GOT GEARS (14) and SWEET CHEEKS (15) have all been impressive at their only starts. There is a good wrap on Gai Waterhouse's first-starter BRIGHTEXPECTATIONS (9), who has had two trials in Sydney. ON-PACERS: Lack of exposed form. SWOOPERS: Lack of exposed form. SUGGESTED BET: Nil. 2 LUCKY THUNDER (7) was held up at a crucial stage at the Valley last time and can bounce back here. There doesn't appear much speed in a race dominated by backmarkers. He should race handy from the rails draw. He is Carbine Club and Australian Guineas-placed here over this trip, which is good enough to win. LARRY'S NEVER LATE (2) is ready to win after two runs from a spell. ABSOLUTE STAR (9) may race handy. ON-PACERS: Absolute Star, Marchelle Belle. SWOOPERS: Larry's Never Late, Count To Zero. SUGGESTED BET: Lucky Thunder each-way. 3 No obvious pacemaker here, which makes this a tricky race. The last time RAFFAELLO (1) went to 2000m he ran second to Mackinnon Stakes placegetter Miss Maren in the Easter Cup. He's a backmarker as a rule but can race handier from the draw. TIMETABLE (6) was scratched from a race this week for this and should race handy from the good draw. MY BENTLEY (9) will be a spruik runner after his eye-catching Australian debut at Bendigo in restricted grade. The rise to 2000m suits but the lack of speed is a concern. This is a thin race. ON-PACERS: Timetable. SWOOPERS: Raffaello, My Bentley, Diamondsondinside. SUGGESTED BET: Raffaello straight out, quinellas with 6, 9. 4 GOVERNANCE (1) caught the eye with his fast-finishing second to flying filly Avenue at Moonee Valley in a good pointer for this. SILVER SPUR (4) ran an encourag- ing second at stakes level at his second start in Sydney. ABSOLUTE SODA (6) ran on strongly in a $100,000 race at Sale. ON-PACERS: Dempsey. SWOOPERS: Believe In More, Umanugget, Governance, Silver Spur, Absolute Soda. SUGGESTED BET: Governance straight out, exactas with 4 6. 5 One of the races of the carnival. APACHE CAT (1) is the established sprint champ, but he's failed at his past two straight runs, including this race last year. NICCONI (5) has been set for this and had excuses for his Manikato third. He's high-class and has a powerful finish. Note winkers go on first time. The fresh sprinter on the scene is ALL SILENT (3), who ran a sizzling 11.3sec for his last 200m when he won at his first straight start. MIC MAC (6) was wide and fought on gamely behind stablemate Apache Cat at the Valley and has blinkers first time. ON-PACERS: Bank Robber, Seeking Attention. SWOOPERS: Apache Cat, All Silent, Turffontein, Nicconi, Mic Mac, Wanted. SUGGESTED BET: Nicconi straight out, quinellas with 3, 6, 6 Intriguing final Group 1 for the carnival with SO YOU THINK (12) the key runner. He has to defy the weight-for-age scale and this will be a very differently run race to the Cox Plate, in which he led. Value runner is GOLD SALUTE (5), who won the Winter Championship here over 1600m, then ran a game second in the Toorak from a wide draw. RIGHTFULLY YOURS (11) will push forward to try to slot in behind Kiwi pacemakers KING MUFHASA (6) and SIR SLICK (8). There are plenty of other place hopes, including Cox Plate runners BLACK PIRANHA (1), blinkers on, and ROAD TO ROCK (2), SNIPER'S BULLET (3), VIGOR (4), despite dropping back in distance, and lightweight WALKING OR DANCING (16). ON-PACERS: King Mufhasa, Sir Slick. SWOOPERS: Black Piranha, Road To Rock, Sniper's Bullet, Vigor. SUGGESTED BET: Gold Salute each-way, box quinellas 5, 11, 12. 7 MOMENT IN TIME (2) was one of the few runners to make ground out wide on Cox Plate day, going down narrowly to LADY LYNETTE (3). Although she meets Lady Lynette 1kg worse, she is proven at the 2000m and beyond. Lady Lynette, on trial at the trip, has since run second to gun mare Typhoon Tracy at Group 1 level. PURPLE (1) is a Group 1 winner from the Queensland Oaks in May but all her victories have been on rain-affected ground. PRAVANA (11) got home hard at the Valley behind Lady Lynette in the Tesio Stakes. She has drawn much better today. ON-PACERS: Silvercitymiss, Bronislava. SWOOPERS: Purple, Moment In Time, Lady Lynette, Pravana. SUGGESTED BET: Moment In Time each-way. 8 ZUPACOOL (13) needs dry ground and big tracks. He has won his past four starts on good tracks, including the Bendigo Cup last start. He's the fresh stayer on the scene and has a win at his only Flemington run. The key to the well- fancied HISSING SID (1) and HUME (8) is their formline through Melbourne Cup winner Shocking. This is an open race, with several visiting Sydney stayers in the mix. ON-PACERS: The Sportsman, Stormhill, Sterling Prince. SWOOPERS: Hissing Sid, Lodge The Deeds, Hume, Crossthestart, Zupacool, Big Col. SUGGESTED BET: Zupacool each- way, box quinellas 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 17. 9 Toughest race of the day. BARWON EXPRESS (4) is back from a confidence builder in Adelaide and is well graded. There are a host of other chances, including ROYAL IDA (1), EL MANDON (2), SOUND JOURNEY (6) and OKAY OKY (8). ON-PACERS: Sound Journey, Kiloton, Arenti, Silky Smooth. SWOOPERS: Royal Ida, El Mandon, Barwon Express, Okay Oky. SUGGESTED BET: Barwon Express each-way. THE MAIL GUEST TIPSTER Tim Habel STRAIGHT OUT FLEMINGTON (R4 No. 1): Governance is no flash odds but should win and kick off your BIG6. Matt Stewart QUADDIE FLEMINGTON (Races 6,7,8,9): Reckon So You Think is a good thing in Emirates Stakes (R6 No. 12) and can be one-outed in the first leg of the quaddie. It looks a skinny quaddie. Second leg, take 1,2,3,11 only. That will cover it. Third leg, stick with 5,8,13,18. Last leg take 2,4,7,9. Get in the queue. Michael Manley PARLAY FLEMINGTON: There looks to be some good things at the meeting. Take a Formula 2 and 3 bet with Governance (R4 No. 1) into Nicconi (R5 No. 5) and Hume (R8 No. 8). For a $5 outlay cost is $20. Nick Quinn DAILY DOUBLE FLEMINGTON (Races 6 & 8): The Emirates Stakes has been a graveyard for punters in recent years and this year could again be the same. Take the field into the exciting Hume. Will cost you just $16 for a full unit. The BIG6 will operate on the following meetings. Flemington gallops: Leg 1: Race 4: 1.20. Leg 2: Race 5: 2.05. Leg 3: Race 6: 2.55. Leg 4: Race 7: 3.40. Leg 5: Race 8: 4.25. Leg 6: Race 9: 5.10. The Meadows greyhounds: Leg 1: Race 4: 8.20. Leg 2: Race 5: 8.38. Leg 3: Race 6: 8.57. Leg 4: Race 7: 9.17. Leg 5: Race 8: 9.37. Leg 6: Race 9: 9.57. Stephen Pearse Vice president, Emirates Australia Race 6 Flemington No. 4 Vigor Race 9 Flemington No. 6 Sound Journey Tom Waterhouse Bookmaker KHAS KURA (Rand R4 No. 1): From the in-form Peter Snowden yard, will get an easy lead and I have never seen less pace in a race. Should be first out and first home. Robert Smerdon TRAINER ENZED GIRL (Flem R1 No. 16): She shows good ability but I'm not sure how she will fit in in this race as it has quite a bit of depth. LADY LYNETTE (Flem R7 No. 3): She comes in well on the set weights and penalties scale. She has to overcome a wide draw and she is an unknown at the distance. She proved herself against the best mares in the land last week and has trained on well. BARWON EXPRESS (Flem R9 No. 4): He's coming off a long break this preparation and early on he was luckless. I was happy with his win in Adelaide last start. From a good draw he should be competitive. Peter Snowden TRAINER GOVERNANCE (Flem R4 No. 1): Eye-catching run last start where he finished nicely and nearly defeated the classy Avenue. He has trained on well since then and this looks a nice race for him. PURPLE (Flem R7 No. 1): Similar story to Governance, nice run last start and will really appreciate the extra distance. Has trained on nicely and will go well today. KERRIN McEvoy is a short-priced favourite for the TAB Sportsbet Jockey Challenge. McEvoy has nine rides, his best Governance (R4 No. 1) and Purple (R7 No. 1). THE MARKET $2.30 Kerrin McEvoy $2.60 Damien Oliver $7.50 Any other indiv. jockey $10.00 Nicholas Hall $12.00 Danny Nikolic $14.00 Dwayne Dunn $21.00 Luke Nolen $23.00 Glen Boss THE BANKERS ON VIDEO LUCKY THUNDER (R2 No. 7) GOVERNANCE (R4 No. 1) ON CLASS NICCONI (R5 No. 5) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE for 27.7% 5, 11, 12/1, 2, 3, 11/1, 8, 13/1, 2, 4, 5, 8. Greg Eurell TRAINER APACHE CAT (Flem R5 No. 1): I'm happy with him. He's trained on well and I'm not worried about his recent straight runs as he was first- up each time and needed the run. MIC MAC (Flem R5 No. 6): Also came through his last run in great order. I've put blinkers on him just to get that little bit extra at this level. He handled the straight well when he won the Aurie's Star in August.
