ROWAN DIRECT (5) won six races last season and returned in Tasmania for a first up Hobart victory, a solid finishing win in a $20,000 4YO affair at Devonport, and fast finishing last start success in Hobart a fortnight ago when trailing wide in the last lap. The engagement of Daryl Douglas is significant. STERITA (12) is a highly talented young mare who s won 7 of 11 this season. She completed the hat trick on Christmas Eve here when sprinting quickly from the one-one and overpowering an easier field with a 56.4 last half. PACIFIC PLAYGIRL (8) has won seven of nine since coming here and been successful in both runs since resuming, the latter of those here last week when scoring a regulation victory against the mares. GOOD BYE (1) was a big improver when flashing home from last from the home turn to score convincingly at Bendigo ten days ago and is sure to give a good sight from the pole. He should lead and is likely to win again. GROOVY BROMAC (3) ran a giant race to score from a back mark at Shepparton two starts back and then was a luckless favourite when third behind Danny Bouchea last time in the Cobram Trotters Cup, when slowly out from the stand and buried before making good late ground. MYSTIC HUSH (9) was a outstanding three year old a couple of seasons back with multiple classic wins, but she only raced three time last season for a win and two placings. She opened her five year old campaign with an excellent second at Maryborough on New Year s Eve where she led and was cut down late by rising star Hei Gift, and will be vastly improved by that, her first run for a year. LENNY LEWIS (12) (gets Gavin) gave top-liner Don King a fright when running him to two metres here three weeks ago and he looks nicely graded in this easier race. ASAFA (7) is a former top youngster who put in his best run for some time when leading and cut down late by the in-form King Of Paradise in one of these races here a fortnight ago. He ll be aiming to find the front once more and should take beating. OUR ENTRAPMENT (2) is another with early standing start speed. He led then handed up to stablemate Just Wal when second in a stand here three starts back then was luckless from a second line draw here before a handy fast class third at Albury on New Year s Eve. PRINCE LOCHIE (6) worked hard to the breeze when fourth in a stronger race than this here last time and is due a win at this level. MAJESTIC EMPEROR (3) is a former top youngster who s won 17 races but is still a metro maiden. At his second run for John Justice he was noticed making late ground in FFA company here last week, and grades well at this level. He was resuming from an eight week break when, after sitting mid field, he was wide in the last lap and beaten by a sprint-laning Johnorama at Yarra Valley last week, will be much fitter for that outing and looks the benchmark here. JUST WAL (1) impressed with back to back wins from the stand and then from a mobile here before finding the class a bit hot when disappointing in last weekend s Ararat Cup. From this alley he ll get a soft run and is sure to be a sprint lane threat. Likely leader HOLLYWOOD BROMAC (2) is shooting for five wins on end. He came from well back to win here three starts back before an all the way Kilmore victory and worked to lead here last week then ran a 27.9 last split to win narrowly. CHARLEYS DREAM (10) caused an upset by beating the well fancied Stunin Cullen at Cranbourne last week where he worked to the breeze mid race and finished off quickly. He s a tough customer and will certainly let them know he s around. PRINCE BENJI (9) ran third in that Cranbourne affair last week and four solid runs from a spell will have him ready to do his best. A first up winner of the Wedderburn Cup at Maryborough a month ago, he was luckless here in the Casey Classic, then worked to the breeze mid race and held off a late challenge from MISTER SWINGER (7) to win here last week. That was from the second line and he draws perfectly here for this sprint affair. MISTER SWINGER (7) is a highly talented performer who was resuming from a spell when making good late ground from the rear to be beaten a head last week by SAMMY MAGUIRE (2). He ll be a lot fitter for the run and although drawn wide, has a strong chance of reversing that decision. COASTAL (1) is a lowly assessed performer compared to his rivals but is in top form and has the draw over the short trip. He led when cut down late here two starts back then was an all the way winner when out-sprinting Staccato at Echuca last week. MAKE WAVES (6) ran a powerful fourth to SAMMY MAGUIRE (2) here last week when wide and uncovered in the last lap and with luck,is likely to be in the finish. Each way chances to BORIS BADENOV (3) who rated 1:54.9 when winning over this trip here three starts back (no luck since); LUV THA ACES LOMBO (9) who bobs up on occasions; KARLSRUHE (10), ditto; and class performer MR FEELGOOD USA (11) whose going well enough but has the job ahead from the extreme draw over this short trip. GILT BROMAC (1) was outstanding at this level last season winning 10 of 26 and was having her third run back when coming from the second line and a wide last lap trail when second to all the way winner MENDELICO (4) in Hobart. MENDELICO (4) had won a couple of metro races here before leading all the way in both her Tasmanian assignments and should lead again but GILT BROMAC (1) with added fitness and a good alley, has a good chance of getting by her this time. Tough mare BROADWAY PLAY (10) worked hard then was held up at a vital stage when a close first up third here last week to Sammy Maguire and Mister Swinger and looks nicely suited against her own sex. The other major winning chance is JAZZAM (5), a seven time winner last season who scored well at Shepparton at her third run back before a luckless fast finishing third in a fast 1:54.6 mares sprint affair at Menangle last weekend. SAVE A SIXPENCE (4) was able to out-sprint the leader ACACIA RIDGE (6) here last week after sitting in the one-one while DON KING (3) found the lead at the 2000 in his heat then slowed up before dashing home in a sharp 27.7. DREAM A MOMENT (2) who is normally a fast beginner, is the upset material. Forced to race in the breeze outside DON KING (3) when beaten just over a length into third last week, she ll set the other pair a task if able to "pounce on the lure". ACACIA RIDGE (6) also has a chance of leading as he did last week, and this injury troubled top liner also has a chance of causing an upset as he ll be vastly improved by recent racing. ARMED GUARD (11) was an eye catching second when splitting that pair and although drawn the second line here has strong each way claims if the pace is hot. The only other possible winning prospects belong to HEYZEAL (12), who was unbeaten in her first three Aussie starts and ran on well for a first up third here last week; and RONERAIL (13) who raced below his best when fifth last week but prior to that was mixing it well with the likes of Sundons Gift and Skyvalley. DEFINITE GIRL (1) is a late bloomer who sprinted sharply from the trail to win on debut at Geelong a month ago, then came from mid field to outfinish STUNIN GIRL (5) at Maryborough before an outstanding second to that filly in the final of that race at Bendigo ten days ago when wide in the last lap and just failing in a fast 1:57.7 sprint affair. LADY BELLADONNA (10) (along with Rocknrolla) was the benchmark of our fillies last season with her final run last term being a close defeat in the Breeders Crown Final here. She s led all the way for two impressive provincial victories from as many starts since a spell and is a proven filly, but the draw here hasn t been kind. STUNIN GIRL (5) was one of NSW s better fillies last season and she followed her first up defeat at Maryborough with a tough success last week, but will have her work cut out to beat DEFINITE GIRL (1) this time with the draw much more in the other fillie s favour. LEFT IN PARIS (9) has only raced four times and looked good at her first three starts before doing plenty of work to find the breeze when a close third in that aforementioned Bendigo race, and with expected pressure on up front, she could be the fresh one. MORGAN ABBY (6) has won two of three since resuming but this her biggest test so far. Each way chances to MISS TRICKIN LOMBO (3) who didn t have much luck when fourth to STUNIN GIRL (5) at Bendigo, and NSW trained filly IM A HAPPY GIRL (7), who s won 10 of 14 and comes off impressive Menangle and Bathurst victories - three starts back she finished a close third at Menangle to top colts For A Reason and Two Eye See. ICE ICE (4) is a lightly raced gelding who impressively beat easier from the breeze here last week and is reaching peak form. INDIGO BAY (9) has stormed home from the rear in recent Maryborough and Ballarat victories and on those runs and his good form at the top level last season, has strong claims.
