Herald Sun Form Guide : January 16th 2010
heraldsun.com.au Herald Sun, Saturday, January 16, 2010 45 + + FB123 C M Y K DHS 16-JAN-2010 PAGE 45 FIRST www.tab.com.au Flemington TODAY HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT PROS TALKING HOT JOCKS Horse for course: Secret Flyer is first-up and is the class performer in the Kensington Stakes at Flemington. MIDNIGHT OIL with TIM HABEL TRACK: Dead 4 PENETROMETER: 4.87 RAIL: 9m LAST MEETING: 6m LAST TIME 9m: October 3 RAINFALL for week: 0.4mm IRRIGATION for the week: 51mm RADAR: Clear 1 JUST six runners but at least four chances. ROYAL COMMANDS (3) followed a second to last Saturday's ultra-impressive Caulfield winner Our Baby Bonus with a Sandown midweek win and can graduate to city Saturday grade. ORBITING BELLE (2) was well backed but no match for all-the-way winner Hooness at the Valley when resuming. She's a straight track winner and can improve with the bonus of the 2kg claim. ABSOLUTE FAITH (1) and MISS O'BRIEN (4) both resume and have plenty of ability. ON-PACERS: Absolute Faith, Royal Commands. SWOOPERS: Orbiting Belle, Miss O'Brien. SUGGESTED BET: Exactas, quinellas 2, 3. 2 ENCOSTA BELIEF (2) looks the winner again. He raced handier in blinkers at Sandown and this is not a strong race. Watch runners are EXCLUSIVE CHOICE (5), a good thing beaten at Bendigo last time and blinkers go on, and CHILLED BY CHOICE (7), who ran on well in a Geelong maiden at his only start and resumes here. TAKE THE RAP (1) ran well when resuming at the Valley before running poorly second-up. The blinkers come off. ON-PACERS: Encosta Belief, Morfontaine. SWOOPERS: Take The Rap, St Clement Danes, Exclusive Choice, Chilled By Choice. SUGGESTED BET: Box exactas, quinellas 2, 5, 7. 3 LOT of depth here but BANGERANG QUIKPIC (8) has returned in career best form with two stand-out sprint runs. This is more like his best distance, he can race handy and comes in well with the 3kg claim. His last city win was here over 2000m last June. ANAVALANCHE (11) had a torrid run on the pace before being run down late at Moonee Valley. That was a weaker race and he may be looking for a slightly longer trip. The consistent BONINDI (6) led all the way to win here last time and will give a great sight again. ITSTHEONE (2), DAVCON (4), LARRY'S NEVER LATE (5) also have claims. ON-PACERS: Bonindi, Bangerang Quickpic. SWOOPERS: Itstheone, Moment In Time, Davcon, Larry's Never Late, Anavalanche. SUGGESTED BET: Bangerang Quickpic each-way, quinellas with 6, 11. 4 FROM THE TERRACE (7) has shown city-class staying ability and was always in control for Showcase Bendigo win last time. He will race handy again and give a great sight. Stablemate PENTIRE POINT (9) chased home APPREHEND (3) at Caulfield on Boxing Day and Apprehend has since started favourite and ran a game second in the Bagot. Despite the 59kg GRAND DESTINY (1) is racing in great form and looks a threat again. ON-PACERS: From The Terrace, Apprehend, She's A Gal. SWOOPERS: Grand Destiny, Olympic Win, Pentire Point. SUGGESTED BET: From The Terrace each-way, quinellas with 1, 3, 9. 5 ANOTHER tough race but SWOOPER (8) will give a great sight at each-way odds. She's had no luck since a first-up Moonee Valley win. She is a one-pacer and was held up at crucial time in Adelaide last time when cut down by TESTA JESTA (11). AWIMOWEH (12) will start favourite and is ready to win. He raced handier than normal last time when close up to Playwright and Sadalbari, good form for this grade. LADY AVACAN (9) is a Flemington 2000m placegetter last September and she has returned in good form as evidenced by her Woodford Cup win at Warrnambool. COPPERVUE (15) disappointed here on New Year's Day but can improve with blinkers fitted. ON-PACERS: Swooper, Sir Skalahad. SWOOPERS: Ista Kareem, Ballack, Growl, Kerdem, Lady Avacan, Testa Jesta, Awimoweh. SUGGESTED BET: Swooper each- way, quinellas with 9, 12. 6 TRUE TALES (9) clocked the best closing sectionals when sixth in the Christmas Stakes and the step up to 1400m here looks ideal. TIME MATTERS (1), a late scratching last week, is a grand galloper who needs maintenance because of his leg problems but ran a typically brave race when third in the same event. TEARS I CRY (5) was never a factor over 1200m at Caulfield after getting back on a day favouring on-pacers but his previous win here at this trip was impressive and he draws to get good cover. BERRINGAMA (13) and SHIP IN THE NIGHT (14) are among other chances. ON-PACERS: Not A Copy, Danzlyum, Berringama. SWOOPERS: Time Matters, Zagreb, Itsamonty, Tears I Cry, Okay Oky, True Tales, Scenica, Ship In The Night. SUGGESTED BET: True Tales each- way. 7 SECRET FLYER (2) won this race last year and this looks an ideal first-up assignment after taking in the A-graders last spring. MORGAN DOLLAR (6) flies fresh and was close up behind Secret Flyer when resuming at Moonee Valley last August at level weights. He gets a 3.5kg weight edge here. ARINOS (3) loves the straight and returned to racing with a close-up third here last month. COMMON INTEREST (10) is a promising three-year-old freshened since a Melbourne Cup Day win down the straight when ridden from behind. He's won at both straight starts. ON-PACERS: Johnny Fiasco, Over Exposed. SWOOPERS: Secret Flyer, Arinos, Morgan Dollar, Get Set, Common Interest. SUGGESTED BET: Secret Flyer straight out. 8 LOAD up for your quaddies and Big6 combinations here in a tough end to the day. SHYLOCK'S DAUGHTER (12) is ready to win and will relish the 2000m but the negative is the wide draw. MY MY MAREE (10) has a poor strike rate, no doubt because of her come- from-behind style of racing, but the rise to 2000m also suits. CABAZON (2) should be at her peak now after four runs back and her only runs at the distance range have been a Stutt Stakes win and Tasmanian Oaks second. GOLDEN HONEY (6) didn't have much luck in the straight from a wide draw last time and draws even wider here. ON-PACERS: Airways, Tennessee Charm. SWOOPERS: Cabazon, Allapattah, Blackfriars Bridge, Go My Girl, Golden Honey, Hussyanna, My My Maree, Shylock's Daughter. Rasheeda. SUGGESTED BET: Shylock's Daughter each-way. THE MAIL GUEST TIPSTER TIM HABEL STRAIGHT OUT SECRET FLYER (Flem R7 No. 2): Exciting galloper with powerhouse finish who can repeat his win in this race last year and be your anchor for quaddies and Big6. ADAM HAMILTON EACH-WAY THE STARLET (Rosehill R4 No. 11): Promising John O'Shea- trained mare who was most unlucky when fifth at Randwick last time. Fitter for two runs from a spell and will be juicy odds in a very suitable race. MICHAEL MANLEY RUNNING DOUBLE Take the running double ENCOSTA BELIEF (Flem R2 No. 2) into BONINDI (Flem R3 No. 6) and ANAVALANCHE (Flem R3 No. 11). NICK QUINN RUNNING DOUBLE Bairnsdale (R5 No. 1 into R6 No. 2) Take a running double with RAMANO'S XAAR into ADAMS BELL. Both are class runners who look extremely well placed today. The BIG6 will operate on the following meetings. FLEMINGTON gallops: Leg 1: Race 3: 2.05. Leg 2: Race 4: 2.45. Leg 3: Race 5: 3.25. Leg 4: Race 6: 4.05. Leg 5: Race 7: 4.45. Leg 6: Race 8: 5.25. BENDIGO harness: Leg 1: Race 3: 7.30. Leg 2: Race 4: 8.02. Leg 3: Race 5: 8.30. Leg 4: Race 6: 9.02. Leg 5: Race 7: 9.30. Leg 6: Race 8: 10.00. THE MEADOWS greyhounds: Leg 1: Race 4: 8.28. Leg 2: Race 5: 8.50. Leg 3: Race 6: 9.06. Leg 4: Race 4: 9.27. Leg 5: Race 8: 9.45. Leg 6: Race 9: 10.12. AARON HEARPS VRC subscriptions, ticketing manager APPREHEND (R4 No. 3) SECRET FLYER (R7 No. 2) STEPHEN ASH BOOKMAKER SECRET FLYER (Flem R7 No. 2): Excellent fresh horse, loves the straight and has an explosive turn of foot. Ticks all the boxes and should be winning this race for the second consecutive year. JOHN McARDLE TRAINER ABSOLUTE FAITH (Flem R1 No. 1): A talented filly who wasn't quite ready in the spring. Isn't fully wound up for today but this looks a nice race for her to kick off her campaign. I'm looking forward to a good run. AWIMOWEH (Flem R5 No. 12): Fitter for past few runs, and from the draw Craig Newitt should get a nice run with him. He's a smart horse who is going well and we hope he will be right in the finish. NULLARBOR CROSSING (Flem R7 No. 14): Rises in class but is going well and after his win last start deserves the chance. EXCELLENOR (Bairns R1 No. 1): Would be very confident if the race was over 950m. Is very speedy but the last 50m will be a concern and we will have our hearts in our mouths. DARREN WEIR TRAINER BANGERANG QUIKPIC (Flem R3 No. 8): Came back this campaign with the Hobart Cup his target. He always goes well fresh so it hasn't surprised me he's run well first and second-up this time. Gets out a bit in distance and he should run very well. TIME MATTERS (Flem R6 No. 1): Yes he's got plenty of weight but I'm really happy with the horse. He's drawn well, should get a lovely run and I'm sure he'll be very competitive. CONSISTENT jockey Chris Symons has been installed $2.80 favourite for today's TAB Sportsbet Jockey Challenge at Flemington. Symons has rides in seven of the eight races. His chances will hinge on picking up big early points on his best ride ROYAL COMMANDS (R1 No. 3). Luke Nolen also has seven rides and looks better value at $3.20. His best hope is ENCOSTA BELIEF (R2 No. 2). The other key player is Glen Boss, with the benefit of rides in every race. He will be hoping for early points with MISS O'BRIEN (R1 No. 4). THE MARKET $2.80 Chris Symons $3.20 Luke Nolen $3.40 Glen Boss $11.00 Craig Newitt $11.00 Any other individual jockey $18.00 Jason Maskiell $21.00 Mark Zahra $31.00 Craig Williams THE BANKERS ON VIDEO BANGERANG QUICKPIC (R3 No. 8) TRUE TALES (R6 No. 9) ON PRECEDENT SECRET FLYER (R7 No. 2) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE FOR 26.04% 8, 9, 12/1, 5, 9, 13/2/field.
