Herald Sun Form Guide : January 23rd 2010
heraldsun.com.au Herald Sun, Saturday, January 23, 2010 49 + + FB123 C M Y K DHS 23-JAN-2010 PAGE 49 FIRST www.tab.com.au Sandown Lakeside TODAY HERALD SUN SUPERFORM LIFTOUT PROS TALKING HOT JOCKS Resuming: five-year-old mare Fifth Avenue Lady will contest the Aare Handicap at Sandown today. MIDNIGHT OIL with TIM HABEL TRACK: Dead 4 PENETROMETER: 5.43 RAIL: Out 3m LAST MEETING: True Jan 6 LAST TIME OUT 3m: February 11 RAINFALL: 20.8mm for week IRRIGATION: 30mm for week RADAR: Clear 1 SHOULD be good speed here which will suit SONA GAIRE (2) who has been impressive with successive swooping wins at the provincials. This is stronger but she keeps improving. FABULIST (4) got a long way back from a wide draw over 1600m at the Valley last time but can be handier here, while on-pacers SNEAKY TSU (1), FAST TALKER (3) and TAN TAT TESS (6) will have admirers. ON-PACERS: Sneaky Tsu, Fast Talker, Tan Tat Tess. SWOOPERS: Sona Gaire, Fabulist. SUGGESTED BET: Box quinellas 1, 2,4,6. 2 EIGHT of the 12 are unraced so obviously market watch is the key. With the Blue Diamond a month away don't be surprised if one of the leading stables produces a genuine contender here. On what we've seen CORVIDAE (2) ran well on debut, showing speed then was held up at a vital stage early in the straight behind Zachary. ON-PACERS: No exposed form. SWOOPERS: No exposed form. SUGGESTED BET: Watch the market. 3 KEY here is the pace. AT THE HEADS (4) may get the chance to control terms with ESSINGTON (9) the only other exposed on-pacer. But given a steady tempo REBEL TRUCE (5) is the one to beat. He was most impressive beating older horses first-up at Warrnambool, coming from well back and putting the race away with a 200m sprint. He has a habit of hanging in and has bit change here. VIKING HERO (3) was first past the post in stakes class on Oaks Day before being relegated on protest, so he is the class factor and can be expected to show up fresh. NO VACANCY (7) chased home the impressive Most Immediate at the Valley. ON-PACERS: At The Heads, Essington. SWOOPERS: Chartreux, Viking Hero, Rebel Truce, Hasta Pronto, No Vacancy. SUGGESTED BET: Rebel Truce straight out, saver on At The Heads. 4 THIS looks a match between class mare FIFTH AVENUE LADY (1) and the improving MISS MATARI (2). Miss Matari has made giant strides this preparation breaking her maiden status first-up, then was stakes-placed in open company. She will share the speed with ROOF RAISER (3) and after the claim has an 8kg weight pull over Fifth Avenue Lady. The pointer to Fifth Avenue Lady is a first-up third to Diamonds At Dusk and Colonel Parker over 1100m at Caulfield after a two-week break last August. MARGHAM (4) and DOUBLE CROSSING (6) can place. ON-PACERS: Miss Matari, Roof Raiser. SWOOPERS: Fifth Avenue Lady, Margham, Double Crossing. SUGGESTED BET: Quinellas/ exactas 1, 2. 5 HOST of chances here with TOGNI (4) well suited. He's one of the few on-pacers in the race and can dictate terms here from the inside draw. He trailed the leader and winner Its Prince last time and was close-up in the finish with GOOD MEDICINE (5) who is a threat again. So is NO JURISDICTION (11) who gets a 2.5kg weight swing from a last- start third to Good Medicine at the Valley. ENCROACHER (2), DANDY DOLLAR (7) and impressive last-start Adelaide winner LOCK IT IN EDDIE (9) are other chances. ON-PACERS: Togni, Abitofado. SWOOPERS: Encroacher, Dandy Dollar, Lock It In Eddie, No Jurisdiction. SUGGESTED BET: Togni each-way. 6 WITH TRUE PERSUASION (15) being reserved for Caulfield on Tuesday, this paves the way for promising galloper ESPRIT DE BULLET (18) to get a start and be the one to beat. Esprit de Bullet has been most impressive in two Bendigo wins coming off a long spell. He likes to sit back and mow down his rivals with a powerful sprint so he looks suited here. HEZABRUISER (3) won in slightly stronger grade here last time hence the 4.5kg weight rise. He's genuine and is sure to be in the finish. CASCABEL (13) won well first-up then had to race without cover at the Valley in the race impressively won by True Persuasion. . ON-PACERS: Bohika, Octovanus. SWOOPERS: Hezabruiser, Jackorelli Boy, Cascabel, Esprit De Bullet. SUGGESTED BET: Esprit De Bullet straight out, exactas with 3, 13. 7 WIDE race but now RATHSALLAGH (4) has found form with a runaway midweek win here, she can repeat. She is a Queensland Oaks (2400m) runner-up so the extra trip holds no fears. Host of other chances including MONTAHLIA (5), looking for the extra ground now, FALVETTE (7) , BELLE FAMILLE (12), WILDLY EXCITED (13) and stablemates FROM THE TERRACE (8) and PENTIRE POINT (14), down in class from failures at Flemington last week. From The Terrace likes to dictate in front and the absence of THE TIGER (3) who ran at the Valley last night helps his cause. ON-PACERS: Rathsallagh, From The Terrace. SWOOPERS: Elmore, Rathsallagh, Montahlia, Trajet, Falvette, Belle Famille, Wildly Excited, Pentire Point. SUGGESTED BET: Rathsallagh each-way. 8 BERTONIC (10) looks well placed in another open race. He can use the good draw to box- seat, has a good second-up record and a win over the smart Beltrois last campaign. PREDOMINATOR (14) caught the eye with an arrogant first- up win for Colin Little at Ballarat a month ago when he sat back but charged home late. This lightly raced former Queenslander will be closing late again. PIMPERNEL (15) is also an emerging galloper who impressed with a win here last start in a small field. Chances to BLUE OSCAR (3), surprise last-start Caulfield winner RAINBAND (4), VINEGAR HILL (9) and COUNT THE DIAMONDS (13), who can pull out a good fresh run. ON-PACERS: Side Splitter, Bertonic. SWOOPERS: Blue Oscar, Rainband, Vinegar Hill, Count The Diamonds, Predominator, Pimpernel. SUGGESTED BET: Bertonic straight out, quinellas with 14, 15. THE MAIL GUEST TIPSTER Tim Habel STRAIGHT OUT SANDOWN: Esprit De Bullet (R6 No. 18) is an exciting prospect who looks well placed here after two Bendigo wins. Anchor him in your exotics. Matt Stewart VALUE SANDOWN: On a tricky program, there appear to be two good bets at value odds, and one sure thing. Miss Matari (R4 No. 2) only has to hold form to win, and Dandy Dollar (R5 No. 7) and Count The Diamonds (R8 No. 13) look good bets each-way at $14 and $12. Adam Hamilton STRAIGHT OUT TRENTHAM Red Ruler (R7 No. 2): One of the best stayers in Aus/NZ and should get the prize. Nick Quinn DOUBLE ROSEHILL: Chance Bye ( R5 No. 9) into Lighthorseman ( R7 No. 6). Chance Bye is extremely exciting and looks hard to beat while the penny has dropped with the talented Lighthorseman. Back them both to win and take them one out in quaddie. The BIG6 will operate on the following meetings. Sandown gallops: Leg 1: Race 3: 2.10. Leg 2: Race 4: 2.50. Leg 3: Race 5: 3.30. Leg 4: Race 6: 4.10. Leg 5: Race 7: 4.50. Leg 6: Race 8: 5.30. Shepparton harness: Leg 1: Race 3: 7.30. Leg 2: Race 4: 8.03. Leg 3: Race 5: 8.30. Leg 4: Race 6: 9.02. Leg 5: Race 7: 9.30. Leg 6: Race 8: 10.00. The Meadows greyhounds: Leg 1: Race 4: 8.20. Leg 2: Race 5: 8.38. Leg 3: Race 6: 9.00. Leg 4: Race 7: 9.20. Leg 5: Race 8: 9.37. Leg 6: Race 9: 9.57. Nick Columb Arrowfield Stud Race 5 Sandown No. 9 Lock It In Eddie Race 8 Sandown No. 15 Pimpernel Rod Cleary BOOKMAKER MISS MATARI (Sand R4 No. 2): Was very game in top open class sprint last start. You'd suspect she'd win this if she can reproduce that effort. Has claim for top apprentice and good alley. Will be mighty hard to beat. Mike Moroney TRAINER STORMY HUSSEY (Sand R1 No. 5): Resuming. A nice filly who will be better over more ground. Could place. SOPHROSYNE (Sand R3 No. 2): Didn't handle Moonee Valley last start, just didn't get around the corners. The bigger track will suit and I'm expecting him to be very strong late. VIKING HERO(Sand R3 No. 3): Has come back terrific. The 1300m might be a shade too short but if the speed is good he'll be running on. ABITOFADO (Sand R5 No. 6): Ran very well first-up, just being nosed out of third, but you wonder whether 1600m second-up might still be a bit short. LINTON STREET (Sand R5 No. 8): Have no idea who backed it first-up ($61 to $12). It certainly wasn't the stable. We expected him to run exactly as he did and we're not expecting much more this time. He won't fire until he gets to 2000m. I ROBOT (Sand R6 No. 6): Fitter, gets in well with the claim and should run pretty well. NOTHINGBUTTHETRUTH (Sand R7 No. 15): Ran a very nice race at Moonee Valley last start and has an each-way chance. Cindy Alderson TRAINER SONA GAIRE (Sand R1 No. 2): We were a bit surprised how well she won last start to be honest. If she runs up to that again, she's got to be some winning chance. BE SAVVY (Sand R2 No. 10): I like her a bit but she's got no favours from the barrier draw. I expect there to be a bit of speed and that she might slot in. She's got blinkers and has worked well in them. NO hotter jockey in Victoria than 2kg claiming apprentice Jason Maskiell. Maskiell is $3 to win today's TAB Sportsbet Jockey Challenge with six rides. THE MARKET $3.00 Jason Maskiell $3.10 Luke Nolen $3.30 Craig Williams $7.50 Damien Oliver $12.00 Any other indiv. jockey $21.00 Dwayne Dunn $23.00 Billy Egan $31.00 Chris Symons THE BANKERS ON POTENTIAL REBEL TRUCE (R3 No. 5) ESPRIT DE BULLET (R6 No. 18) ON PRECEDENT BERTONIC (R8 No. 10) $50 FLEXI QUADDIE for 39.6% 2,4,5,7,9,11/18/4,5,7,8,12, 13,14/ 10,14, 15.
