Herald Sun Form Guide : January 23rd 2010
56 Herald Sun, Saturday, January 23, 2010 heraldsun.com.au + + + + FB123 C M Y K DHS 23-JAN-2010 PAGE 56 FIRST Assessment: JILLS PRIDE (1) has only run moderate time winning her last two at non-TAB meetings but she s got the gun driver and is drawn perfectly. Three starts ago she led and won well here in weaker grade and there s no reason she won t run a race in this. AMERIKEPT (2) and HEZA STREET KID (3) have won only one race apiece but have the draws to be prominent throughout, while SIZE MATTERS (6) put in an ordinary performance last time out but has talent. He won his previous two starts here and is as good as any of these. It s a similar story for VILLAIN (10), who raced outside the leader when only putting in a moderate performance last start. The draw is awkward but if he could get a cart into the race he d be some hope. Throw KIWI FELLA (9) into the multiples and SAVED BY DOUG (4) isn t the worst either. SELECTIONS: JILLS PRIDE (1), Size Matters (6), Villain (10), Amerikept (2) 2 Pace 7.23 2230m. $6500. Three of his last four starts have been good efforts from stands but last start he showed he s just as adept from the mobile, rating 1.58.6 in winning over the mile at Geelong - including a 28.1-second first quarter. Similarly, COBARGO BARNEY (6) doesn t have the ideal draw but has the form credentials to run a race. He won t have the opportunity to camp behind the leader like he did when winning last week but go back five starts ago and the form around Johnorama and Triple Vance stands up well. COCOLOSAL (3) put in a mighty effort to win here two starts ago and then was far from disgraced behind Ryans Journey last time out when held up at the top of the straight and getting home well along the sprint lane. She will run well from the good draw. IVANA TRUMP (2) wasn t far away last start and had nice form prior, while KADEK (4), ROCK THE BOAT (8), MEGA HAUL (9) and LA BALLE DE FLAMME (10) are all place chances. The latter would even be a winning hope if he behaves and the pace is on. SELECTIONS: WILLOUGHBY (5), Cocolosal (3), Cobargo Barney (6), La Balle De Flamme (10) 3 Pace 7.52 2230m. $8000. He was well in the market last week and broke during the run before battling on for third out wide beaten 12m by Pandemania. That looks good form here. STUNNING BIRD (8) started favourite in that race, but got back three on the pegs before finishing 4th. She has been disappointing of late, but has winning claims on her best. FOUR STARZZZ ART (1) had his chance last week after sitting behind the leader in his heat, but should get the run of the race again. ONE ACE WONDER (3) has been ordinary his past two, but hasn t had a lot of luck and is a knockout hope.. TOO GOOD TO REFUSE (5) is racing fairly and followed a win here with a battling 5th last week behind Pandemania after sitting outside the leader. LINGA LONGA LASS (4) is in a similar boat, but could get to the pegs first and would be in the finish if she does. TOWN PRINCE (6) doesn t win too many, but his form is better than it looks. He drawn perfectly on the front line and will take a power of beating if he can hold the lead. REDNONDO ON TELOWIE (8) is drawn to get a charmed run in the race and he tried hard when runner-up behind SAMARA Knight last week after leading. UNDERTHERAINBOW (10) had a charmed run behind the speed and sprint-laned to victory here last week. She s won eight of 38 and won t be far away despite the second row draw. ISLAND BRAVE (11) is poorly drawn but looked good here last week when a soft winner over Dee Kays La Femme after coming from off the speed.PANDEMANIA (5) has won four of seven starts this season and was too good for THE PRESTIGE (6) last week. He s in the powerful Gath stable and his form has been consistent over the past couple of months in similar races. Two back he raced wide before looming up outside of leader and boxed on well, then he led at the bell and again battled it right out for the place. MANHATTAN BRIDGE (3) followed narrow 2230m mobile win here with a disappointing seventh behind Lord Washington last week when given a good run one out one back. If he steps with them he should be prominent throughout. Former WA pacer JACOBS WELL (4) is all the better for two SA runs. He started favourite last week and ruined chances by pulling hard to race well back along the rails and expect there is plenty of improvement in him. Pole horse THREE OCLOCK ROCK (1) also didn t pace to true ability in that same race. From this draw is likely to get a good sit behind the leader and is capable of finishing off strongly. ANITOM (5) has been around the mark finishing just out of the placings behind Lord Washington a week ago and was placed 3rd, beaten only one metre, two starts prior to that. Will get back off the pace and expect him to be closing late. SELECTIONS: ULTIMATE MARK (7), Anitom (5), Jacobs Well (4), Ultimate Deal (6) 6 Pace 9.22 1800m. $7000. He s poorly drawn but should give this a big shake. CULLENS HOPE (8) hasn t won since July but was sent out favourite here last week when he led before finishing runner-up behind Seafield Cullen. He s drawn to get a good run and has strong appeal. VILLAGE POP (9) should be fitter for two runs back from a spell and he was a good winner here five starts back (in September) coming from back in the field when they ran a 57.1sec final 800m. He looks the big improver. CARNIVAL ROSE (6) is racing well but poorly drawn here while LORD WASHINGTON was a good winner back in class and must be respected despite drawing wide. From the front row should be prominent enough in the run to feature strongly in the finish. SUNDONS PRIDE (7) has sound Victorian form leading into this. She was given the run of the race last start and did finish off pretty well in the sprint lane at Melton in a 2240m stand. Trotters Cup sixth was okay for ONEAKWEER STREET (6), who had good sit behind and was only beaten 6.5m. In same race KARAMBOO (9) also battled on well to just miss the placing when fourth while RIVER RED (8) split the aforementioned pair. She led last week from this draw and was slightly disappointing fading to third after an easy first half. ESS JAY ADAMS (2) has made a big impression in three starts for three wins. This is tougher than she s beaten so far, but she keeps improving and is a leading hope. HEEZHOT (4) ran Jonnyndry to a head back in December and ran second to Ess Jay Adams last start. He can put in a rough one, but is a winning hope at his best. JACKS ON THE ROCKS (6) has won three of four starts and has done it tough the past two. He sat without cover last week outside of Sinopoli and had her beaten in the straight. A similar scenario could eventuate. KORUNYE KID (5) was second in that race, after running third in the Derby. You certainly couldn t put a line through UNIONS UNITED, who has won two of four starts but she s going to have to work to find the lead here. SOHO ICARUS (2) is a first-starter in very good hands in the Andy Gath stable and ran second at a Melton trial on Monday night.
