CHICAGOMATE (2) sat parked and battled on ok for fourth to It Happens A Lot at Geelong two back in a heat of a C1 series then he drew the back row and wasn t a bad seventh to Summer Ace in the Final a week ago. He has gate speed, draws well and should be good odds. ON FIRE (12) has some issues with the start as indicated by his poor display at Horsham first up from a break. He has had a few trials at Bendigo recently and on ability he d beat these comfortably. JASPER JEFF (10) led up and had his chance for second to Overpassing at Kilmore eight days back. No doubt he is better served when he can lead but in a weak race he rates highly. He sat parked and held on well for fourth to Punt High at Shepparton two back then he failed to handle the tight Echuca track when seventh to Mach Twain just over three weeks ago. He ll trail the leader and sprint lane to victory. GOORNONG SPIRIT (1) loves to lead and she gets conditions to suit today. He won three of seven last season and raced the best there is. He trialled brilliantly here 15 days ago from the tapes ripping home in 58.6/28.3. He lacks stand experience but he is all class and should go close. MY MATE CLAUDY (7) scored a soft win first up at Echuca eight days ago with Scot Dyer barely moving on him up the straight. He will be even sharper and the stable are in hot form. MAGIC INTEREST (2) is a former star juvenile who had a moderate three-year-old season by his lofty standards. He trialled nicely at Kilmore sic days ago and draws to advantage. SALUTETOCABBY (12) is risky but has a stack of ability. He did all the work in the run and went down fighting to Kyvalley Alley at Geelong and although he s going to be chasing some smart ones he is a strong place chance SELECTIONS: OUTMUSCLE (1), My Mate Claudy (7), Magic Interest (2), Salutetocabby (12) RATINGS: 1/7/2/12/8/9/5/6 SUGGESTED BET: OUTMUSCLE (1) to win 4 Bertocchi 3YO Pace 3.15 2150m. $5000. 3yo 3C0 To 3C1 PBD Mobile 1 34s22 ETON BROMAC NZ (Em1) Chris Alford Fr 2 4s337 JUST LOITERING Peter Salathiel Fr 21.00 3 s1327 LADY TOTTINGTON David Murphy Fr 7.00 4 4s25 OUR ULTIMATE LILY NZ Daryl Douglas Fr 6.00 5 59s15 LOVING LIFE LOMBO Greg Sugars Fr ★3.20 6 s5586 SOLWAY FIRTH Ashley Matthews Fr 34.00 7 66s TOULOUSE LAUTREC NZ Lance Justice Fr 9.00 Second Line 8 7 MOSQUITO BUZZIN Marty Noonan Fr 51.00 9 66s46 MANGO MAGIC John Caldow Fr 13.00 10 8s97s SARUM KNIGHT Nigel Milne Fr 10.00 11 BADLANDS TERROR Don Costa Fr 34.00 12 s5613 GEM OF REIBEY Daniel Jack Fr 3.50 Assessment: Should ETON BROMAC (1) gain a start he is the one to beat. He was second at Terang behind the handy Vapar Raine two back then he again led up but found Living On Ice too strong for him at Yarra Valley. He ll be ready to show his best after two runs back from a break. GEM OF REIBY (12) was most unlucky at Tabcorp Park 10 days ago when she was held up badly until it was too late. She has the poor draw again but with some better luck she can cause these some trouble. LADY TOTTINGTON (3) led everywhere bar the stick at Maryborough two back then she was outclassed in race mentioned above. She has high speed and may be the pilot. TOULOUSE LAUTREC (7) is the interesting runner. He raced the big boys in his two New Zealand starts prior to joining Lance Justice. He is first up for 10 months but did trial ok at Tabcorp Park last week. He won his first three Australian starts prior to just missing behind Tsunami Lombo after a chair trip at Tabcorp Park back in July last year. He had an easy Tabcorp Park trial from the tapes last Monday night and he ll be a force. ICE ICE (12) did all the work in the run and held off all the challengers at Tabcorp Park 10 days back. He is a safe beginner and is capable of doing work. INDIGO BAY (10) never got into it at Bendigo last start but his fast finishing third to Ultimate Under Fire at Tabcorp Park prior is a better indication of his ability. He hasn t seen the tapes under race conditions before but with a safe beginning he will be right in this. He gets the ace today and should get every hope. CARLOS CULLEN (3) got knocked out of it at Nyah last Tuesday night but his previous third here to Artorius gives him an undeniable chance in this. He may be the leader too. RUSTLER BOY (11) had a tough run in the chair when fourth to the smart Lifes Destiny at Yarra Valley last start and with a cart into it he can be a major player. NEVER ON SUNDAY (12) bolted in at Horsham prior to making a mistake and finishing an unlucky fifth to Evil Trickster at Stawell. He just needs better manners to be in the finish. He draws better and will be pushing forward once more. ROJEN CRUZ (12) was dynamic here two back in quick time then he stepped up in class and his seventh to Living On Fire was better than it looked. He has a blinding turn of foot and will be hammering home once again. CLEAR THE FLOOR (8) is absolutely flying. He shoots for the hat trick today after a dashing 1:55.2 sprint trip Yarra Valley win and an easy Geelong stand victory last week. The draw is an issue but watch for him to be storming home via the sprint lane. The draw is a bonus and Jnr is sure to give him a nice trip. MOTU SHEER DELIGHT (5) has raced well for Shaun Gillespie since heading to Qld some time ago. She has won her past two impressively and although this is harder she gets Dasher and her stand manners are exemplary. Dominant: Sundons Gift (No.11) defeats Acacia Ridge in the Cochran Trotters' Cup at the Shepparton meeting. Cotchin excited TRAINER Keith Cotchin is preparing for the most exciting month of his career. Cotchin's patience with the raw but highly talented Tanabi Bromac has been rewarded and the five-year-old is now ready for the big time. Tanabi Bromac looked good in winning the Horsham Cup in quick time two starts back, but even better when he parked outside the leader and repeated the dose in Saturday night's Shepparton Cup. Next comes the Hunter Cup at Moonee Valley on February 6 and a trip to Sydney for the Inter Dominion, which starts at Harold Park on February 19. ''It's a dream come true to have not just a runner, but be in with some sort of chance in races like the Hunter Cup and Inter Dominion,'' Cotchin said. ''Some have said this horse is not a stayer, but he's just needed time to mature. ''Gavin (Lang) has copped some criticism for some of his drives on the horse, but he's taught the horse a lot and now he's ready to do some more work in his races.'' Lang ready to rip THE Inter Dominion trotting series can't start quickly enough for Chris Lang Sr. Lang has the two standouts for the series --- Sundons Gift and Skyvalley --- spot-on and just wants to rip into the racing. The ''semi-finals'' are run at the Ballarat Cup meeting on Saturday night. (Can somebody tell me why they are called semi-finals when there are no heats?) Inter Dominion champion Sundons Gift returned from a six-week break with a dominant win in the Cochran Cup at Shepparton on Saturday. ''It was a bit harder than it looked out there, but he felt fantastic,'' Lang said. ''It's further proof to me he's a better horse now than he was this time last year.'' Skyvalley will go to the heats first-up after a seven- week spell, but Lang said he wasn't concerned. ''He's a very different horse to Sundons Gift. Being fresh really suits Skyvalley,'' he said. Lang's Inter Dominion hopes have been further boosted by confirmation there will be no Kiwi-trained raiders in the series for the first time in many years. ''We'll go over there and take them on after the Inter Dominion,'' Lang said. Andy lends hand YOUNG American-based driver Andrew McCarthy is returning home to help his family during a hectic six weeks. With his father John and brother Luke in Victoria this weekend, Andrew will do the stable driving in Queensland. After winning Friday night's West Australian Cup with Washakie, the McCarthy clan won six races at Albion Park on Saturday night. ''It's just a good coincidence Andy's coming home because the weather is so cold at the moment in the US in the area where he drives,'' John said. ''The timing couldn't be better. Luke and I will be away in Victoria and then New South Wales with Washakie, Be Good Johnny and For A Reason for much of the next five weeks.'' The exciting For A Reason will be one of the headline acts in the Victoria Derby heats at Friday night's Maryborough meeting at Melton. The confirmed Kiwi raiders for the Victoria Derby are Sir Lincoln and Courage To Rule. Another Derby contender, Grinnersawinner, capped his preparation with a regulation win at Shepparton on Saturday night. Menangle aglow THE lights will go on at New South Wales' new home of harness, Menangle, for the first time on Friday night. Thanks to the Tabcorp sponsorship deal, the installation of lights has been fast-tracked. Long-term plans are for Menangle to race on Saturday night and replace Harold Park Friday nights as NSW's major meeting. THE HEROES KEITH COTCHIN Superb job with Tanabi Bromac. WASHAKIE Monster win in WA Cup. SUNDONS GIFT Gone to a new level. NIGHTS OF GLORY Only four more sleeps. MT GAMBIER CUP MEETING Great to see it on Sky. SANDLER Exciting display of speed at Melton. TONY ''AD'' TURNBULL Celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday. HUTCHY'S BLACK BOOK HUNG JURY Got a cheap lead but did run a 56.6sec half-mile at Kilmore last week. TEAR IT ALL AWAY Taken the next step. Terrific run in the Shepparton Cup. JAZZAM Had chance to beat Bettors Strike at Melton, but will find a suitable race very soon. MASTER OF DISGUISE Impressed at Mt Gambier on Friday. MANDS GEARL Made two moves and too strong for Led Suitcase at Kilmore last week. COMING UP THE Nights Of Glory carnival begins at Melton's Tabcorp Park on Friday night. Harness Racing Victoria has changed the format and opted to run the heats of the Inter Dominion trotting series and Victoria Derby at different meetings. It starts on Friday night at the Maryborough meeting held at Melton with what is expected to be three cracking heats of the Victoria Derby. Then the action heads to Ballarat on Saturday night for the Ballarat Pacing Cup and two heats of the Inter Dominion trotting series.
