Herald Sun Form Guide : January 4th 2013
heraldsun.com.au Herald Sun, Friday, January 4, 2013 33 + + FB123 C M Y K DHS 4-JAN-2013 PAGE 33 FIRST Watch that boy go: The New Boy now wears blinkers and will take some catching in race eight at Caulfield tomorrow. .com.au TODAY Wangaratta P48 TONIGHT Cranbourne P37 TOMORROW Caulfield P35 TOMORROW Warwick Farm P47 ADAM'S MULTI DOUBLE KHALIFA $2.40 Caulfield R4, No.8 Exciting galloper who had no luck at Flemington last start. Looks well placed to break through. WHISPER DOWNS $2.90 Caulfield R7, No.2 Landed a plunge when winning here last start, and the Chad Schofield-David Hayes combination is really firing. MULTI ODDS: $6.96 Caulfield tomorrow TRACK: Dead (4) FIRST RACE: 12.50pm FEATURE AUSTRALIAN RACES 1.30pm: Ian Miller Plate (1000m), Caulfield 2.10pm: Mal Seccull Handicap (1000m), Caulfield 5.30pm: Swettenham Stud Championship (1600m), Caulfield COVERAGE: TV: Foxtel --- 519 Sky Racing 1, 521 Sky Racing World, 522 TVN. RADIO: Radio Sport National (927) WHO'S HOT A HANDFUL of youngsters are riding really well --- and none more so than Damien Thornton (right), who has a nice book of rides at Caulfield. His claim brings NELLA FANTASIA (R1 No.6), FINISHING CARD (R4 No.2) and TARIANA (R6 No.2) in with winning weights in their respective races. Nella Fantasia and Tariana --- one of the key runners all day, now at a weight advantage over VAIN ATTRACTION (R6 No.5) for beating her last start --- are probable leaders, making the claim ultra-important. Ditto SNOW COVER (R8 No.8), who has a terrific chance at double- figure odds. Matt Stewart HARNESS HOTSHOTS MULTIPLE Group 1-winning mare BELLAS DELIGHT (right) continues her charge towards a possible start in the $200,000 Ladyship Mile at Menangle on March 3 when she contests the Graham Goffin Memorial at Tabcorp Park, Melton, tonight. The race has attracted some quality mares, and it won't be a pushover for this classy daughter of Bettors Delight. But she will be fitter for her first-up win at Shepparton 13 days ago and is sure to use her staying prowess. Harness Racing Victoria price assessor Bill Hutchison has marked her favourite at $2.20, with PEMBROOK CAESAR and NATIONAL GALLERY (both at $3.70) on the second line of betting. HARNESS HOTLINE PAGE 41 TAB JACKPOTS TOMORROW'S BIG6 at Caulfield boasts a $50,000 jackpot on races 3-8. Leg one will kick off at 2.10pm with the running of the 1000m Mal Seccull Handicap. THE EARLY OIL 1 Value may be NELLA FANTASIA (6), who has speed and could scoot away with the benefit of Damien Thornton's claim. The three up the top --- MAGLISSA (1), EVENS (2) and HAZARD (3) --- all have big weights and no claims. Of those, most keen on Evens, who ran a good placing behind Maglissa two starts back and launched off that to an impressive Valley win. Improving. SUGGESTED BET: Nella Fantasia each-way. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVERS: Nil. 2 Impossible --- none of the first- starters has trialled in public. The market and mounting yard may help put pieces into the puzzle. There's sure to be interest in Peter Moody's Bel Esprit youngster DIAMOND GLOW (5), as Moody has had some success with Bel Esprit stock. DEVIL WOMAN (4) showed OK toe when beaten by top-class Clevadude on debut. Suspect she can only win if none of the first-starters is above average. SUGGESTED BET: Nil. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVERS: Devil Woman opened $3.30, into $2.60, back out to $3; A Single Tear opened $2.50, but has drifted out to $10; Upside Rock opened $10, into $3.30, back out to $3.80. 3 The big push will be for GO THE KNUCKLE (2), off the back of a fast- closing, first-up effort down the straight, but would he be a better bet at 1200m? Good chance, but better value may be IT'S CRUNCH TIME (4), who has been freshened and is underrated. FIRST COMMAND (1) is the class runner, flies fresh and loves the track. No other chances. SUGGESTED BET: Exacta 4/2. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVER: Waltzes $13 to $10. 4 Great clash between up-and-comers AL ANEED (7) and KHALIFA (8), who was scratched from Flemington last Saturday with a minor setback. Leaning to Al Aneed, who really knuckled down at Flemington and will be better suited around the corner here at 1400m. Khalifa is an exciting big strider, but gut feeling is he is better suited at the more spacious Sandown or Flemington. Good chance, however. FINISHING CARD (2) is fit, flying and not badly in after claim. But is he good enough to beat the other two? SUGGESTED BET: Quinella 7 and 8. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVER: Finishing Card $7 to $6.50. 5 Good race, but keen on GENERAL PEEKAY (6) first-up. Fast, classy horse and resumes on home track from a good gate. Mick Price has two in, with Craig Newitt riding The General. DAY PROCEDURE (1) was excellent at the Valley, drawn to surge through with Nikita Beriman in the saddle, claiming valuable 3kg. LONROCKSTAR (3) held a smart one in Sylvan Power at Ballarat and can take this step. COLICCHIO (5) was an impressive debut winner. Harder here, but trained on track. SNIP THE DANCER (9) finished along the rails on a track that suited wide runners last start. Good effort. SUGGESTED BET: General Peekay each-way. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVERS: Mandla $5.50 out to $6.50; Colicchio $7 out to $8. 6 The sums add up for TARIANA (2), who meets VAIN ATTRACTION (5) 2kg better off for beating her comfortably last start, after Thornton's 3kg claim. Should win again. Danger may be SPORT CHIC (11), who resumes. Scratched from Cranbourne tomorrow night for this. Close up in some good races last preparation and nicely drawn. Monitor betting. Vain Attraction certainly in the mix. GO KATRINA (9) has had a stop-start career but has ability. SUGGESTED BET: Tariana the win. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVERS: Music Shop $6.50 out to $7.50; Riverina's Girl $14 out to $15; Inablitz $14 to $13. 7 Pretty awful race. MIDNIGHT GLORY (1) has a terrific chance each-way. Plenty of weight, but well drawn and seems very well placed. WHISPER DOWNS (2) has a chance, but is awkwardly drawn and getting up in the weights, despite Chad Schofield's claim. NOW AND ZEN (6) keeps improving and is in a good local stable. APRES (4) is consistent yet limited. Ditto CRAWFISH (5), who is in a top local camp and probably some chance in a weak affair. SUGGESTED BET: Midnight Glory each-way. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVERS: Nil. 8 Excellent race with a handful of clear chances. Lots to like about in-form THE NEW BOY (10), who was gunned down late by the in- form British General last start. Will surge through from an inside alley, run along boldly with blinkers (which have turned him around) and take power of catching. FAST AND FREE (7) is a bold-going on- pacer and will go with The New Boy. DAYITA (6) is a classy mare who never got a crack at them first-up. Expecting a big show from a good alley. Next best SNOW COVER (8), who is underrated, and SPECKIE (14), who was only fair last start, but an excellent start before when ridden cold. SUGGESTED BET: Include just 6,7,10 in quaddie. TAB FIXED ODDS MARKET MOVERS: Nil. MATT STEWART'S TIPS BEST BET: THE NEW BOY (R8 No.10) QUADDIE: 1,3,5,6 - 2,11 - 1,2,4,5,6 - 6,7,10. Cost: $100 for 83.33 per cent. BEST VALUE: AL ANEED (R4 No.7) BIG6:2,4-7,8-1,3,5,6-2,11- 1,2,4,5,6 - 6,7,10 Cost: $100 for 31.25 per cent.
