Herald Sun Form Guide : January 19th 2013
48 Herald Sun, Saturday, January 19, 2013 heraldsun.com.au + + + + FB123 C M Y K DHS 19-JAN-2013 PAGE 48 FIRST TOP PICK: MAJOR POST (6) is a talented 4yo pacer that has been placed in all of his five starts (3 wins) since resuming from a break. He had every hope but ran into the outstanding pacer in Scandalman when second in the Inter City Pace Final so he is capable of going one better here. DANGER: BEETSON (2) finished third in the Inter City Pace Final and wasn t far away from MAJOR POST (6) at the finish. He is a strong type and the long home straight will probably suit the dynamic speed of MAJOR POST (6) better but on ability, there is nothing much separating the pair. OTHERS: NEWGATE (5) enjoyed a nice trail but tried hard behind the smart pacer Theartofdelusion when second at Bankstown last outing. He is racing in peak form and is worth an investment on an each way basis. TOR RILEY (10) is a former New Zealand pacer, which won in a fast mile of 1.55.8 on his Australian debut at Goulburn. He is stepping up in class but he was impressive on his local debut so he cannot be discarded. BO SPARTA (4) possesses a powerful finishing burst and gets into this race with a concession claim so he is not without a chance. SELECTIONS: MAJOR POST (6), Beetson (2), Newgate (5), Tor Riley (10) SUGGESTED BET: MAJOR POST (6) to win EXOTIC BET: Flexi Trifecta 2,6/ 2,5,6,10/ 2,4,5,6,10 (Cost $20, which gives 111%) 8 Trotters Hcp 9.45 2300m. $12000. He broke stride on the home turn, lost approximately 30m and motored to the line in the latter stages. DANGER: CHUCK WAGON (8) is an honest Victorian trotter, which was intelligently driven to move up without cover in a slowly run race when he won at Melton then followed with a big second in the Horsham Cup. This race is no harder and he should give a bold showing. OTHERS: SUPPER WALTZ WILSON (12) was heavily supported but broke stride shortly after the start and lost all chance when eighth last week. He ran a top race for second behind Gentle Image on his local debut and is worth another chance. THE PINK DIAMOND (7) produced three impressive victories in succession prior to breaking stride at her next two attempts. She has the ability to figure in the finish if she delivers a foolproof display. KING OF STRATHFIELD (13) has mixed his form since returning from Queensland but is a winning chance if he puts his best foot forward. She possesses a powerful finishing burst and will take holding out against this opposition. DANGER: BE SHARPE (5) is racing in terrific form and had little luck after being shuffled back on the markers last week. She finished powerfully when third to ANGEL GABRIELLE (4) prior and is a genuine each way threat here. OTHERS: TIGER TINA (7) and RUPEENO CULLEN (8) both have been racing well against similar opposition and ANGEL GABRIELLE (4) could show up if she puts her best foot forward. He is a very strong pacer and will make his presence felt against this class. DANGER: GLOBAL VIEW (9) is a fast beginner from the mobile and his three efforts in New South Wales have been excellent. He chased hard when a close second behind the outstanding pacer Grand Stride last week and is capable of going one better here. OTHERS: MARQUESS DE POSH (10) is a top mare when racing at her best form having won thirteen of her nineteen starts. She loomed up to win and disappointed in the latter stages last week but she should strip fitter so she is worth another chance. HEZ THE ARTISAN (6) is capable of finishing strongly with the right trail forward and ran a reasonable race behind Grand Stride last week. He has been placed six times this season and is a strong place chance again. MY DANDY (4) and DEE DEVITO (5) are both worth thought in multiple combinations. He pushed forward to race on the outside of the leader at his latest strong second behind Decorated Jasper and should be highly competitive in this event. DANGER: GLENGOWAN (8) was placed in the Treuer Memorial on December 01 and followed with several good performances behind the top mare Our Sixpence. He finished well despite being unplaced behind Excel Stride last week and is a good winning chance in this event. OTHERS: CHARIOT KING (6) used inside runs throughout but ran a brilliant race for second behind Excel Stride last week. He finished fourth in the Treuer Memorial prior and must be included as one of the main chances in this event. GAIUS CAESAR (3) gains a good draw with the aid of a concession claim and will be fitter from his first up ninth behind Excel Stride where he was in the second half of the field throughout. IM ON TARGET (1) is rising substantially in class for this assignment but produced a top performance to win last week and is drawn to receive every chance. He finished strongly when second in the New Zealand Free For All (Group 1) prior and he would beat this field at his best form. DANGER: DICKIES BROMAC (7) ran his worst race for some time last week when sixth. He was held up for a run in the latter stages but was under extreme pressure and battling on the home turn. He was placed at his previous eight starts so he is worth another chance. OTHERS: CULLENS CREEK (3) gets into this race with a concession claim and scored at Menangle on December 22 where he worked hard in the early stages before taking a trail behind DICKIES BROMAC (7). He ran a good race behind Im On Target last week and must be included amongst the main chances here. STORMY SIROCCO (1) has been runner up twice under similar conditions recently and is drawn to go well. The Victorian pacer HALL OF FAMER (6) has struggled to re-capture his best form in four starts since resuming but he possesses a good turn of speed and is a possible improver. She pushed forward to race without cover mid-race when second in the Graham Goffin Memorial at her next attempt then ran a top race when coming from last in the Bendigo Cup on Saturday so she should take beating. DANGER: OUR SIXPENCE (11) is widely drawn but is racing in outstanding form having won five races in succession prior to a close fifth behind Excel Stride in the free for all last week where the leaders finished off in a slick final quarter of 26.8 seconds. She is the most tightly assessed runner competing in the field being a M7 assessed mare so she must be respected. OTHERS: BABY BLING (3) won the Australian Oaks last year and also scored at Group One level this season having won the Nepean Mares Classic in Perth. She received every chance and only battled into sixth in the Horsham Cup but she should be better for that outing and must be included amongst the leading chances. FOREVER GOLD (4) is a smart Queensland mare that won impressively at her first run since May then was held up momentarily on the home turn and used the sprint lane when third to Passion Stride (won again since) against the free for all class at her next attempt. She possesses a brilliant turn of speed and is not to be underestimated. The Victorian pacers NATIONAL GALLERY (9) and WELL HELLO DOLLY (10) are racing well enough to be in the finish while BAINFEILD WASHINGTON (12) has the finishing burst to trouble her rivals if the pace is hectic in the early stages of the event. SELECTIONS: BELLAS DELIGHT (8), Our Sixpence (11), Baby Bling (3), Forever Gold (4) SUGGESTED BET: BELLAS DELIGHT (8) to win EXOTIC BET: Flexi Trifecta 3,8,11/ 3,4,8,11/ 3,4,8,9,10,11,12 (Cost $20, which gives 44.44%) 6 Pacers Hcp 8.45 2300m. $22000. He has the terrific strike rate of seventeen wins from twenty- five starts and is capable of adding to that record here. DANGER: STIRLING POINT (4) has performed very well under the standing start conditions at Menangle and is a good chance of finding the lead. He finished third in a race of similar standard last outing and rates as an each way chance again. OTHERS: PUB BLITZ (6) has finished well without being brilliant at his two starts back from a break but he should be ready to strike his best form. He impressively won a standing start event at Menangle in October so he should be competitive under these conditions. POCKET BOY (3) is a standing start specialist and is better than his Victorian numerical form suggests so he is a value hope. MACH WIPER (7) has struggled to step away cleanly at his past few standing start performances, which is a concern, but he should prove hard to beat if he is on his best behaviour at the start.
