Hail Caesar QUEENSLAND-based pacer Caesar Augustus has been well supported to win heat two of the New South Wales Derby at Menangle tomorrow night. Caesar Augustus has firmed from $2.75 to $2.40 with TAB. Victorian filly Musical Delight has been the other key shortener in heat three of the NSW Oaks. Opened at $1.90, the Australian Pacing Gold champion from last season is now $1.70 for tomorrow night and a $3.70 equal favourite for the series as a whole with Rozelski. Former Kiwi campaigner Cyamach has firmed from $21 to $15 in heat three of the NSW Derby, where Majestic Mach holds the call at $1.15. Closer to home, Inter Dominion finalist Caribbean Blaster ($1.85-$1.95) has been slightly easy in what looks a match race against Melpark Major in the Geelong Pacing Cup. Blitz improved VICTORIAN Trotter of the Year, Blitzthemcalder, tonight will begin a preparation that may see him become the most revered squaregaiter in the land. Blessed with movie- star looks and a motor to match, Ross Payne's son of Metropolitan was awesome last term, winning the Vicbred Super Series and Breeders Crown finals for juvenile trotters. His record may have been even better if not for breaking stride in the Redwood Classic but Payne is certain Blitzthemcalder has improved once more during his six-month spell. ''I've been looking forward to it (his return) for a long time,'' the Lara trainer said. ''He had seven weeks off after the Breeders Crown and I've just brought him up slowly. ''He's a different horse this season; he's never had speed before but he has it now. A good friend of mine, Phil Williamson, said not to worry because it will come as he gets older and he was right. ''He's just got speed early and speed late now. He's the full package.'' Despite drawing the pole in the Prydes Easifeed 3YO Trot at Tabcorp Park tonight, Blitzthemcalder will not get things all his own way tonight with Redwood winner Sun Of Sonoko and fellow boom horse Roy Hobbs among the opposition. The other highlight will be the Glenferrie Farm Sapling Stakes where debutante Fon Design, a half-sister to Cuttheattitude will fight out favouritism with Tuscan Breeze. Fast trial THE road to Great Southern Star glory continues at Bendigo on Sunday afternoon when six of Australia's fastest trotting mares time trial between races at Lords Raceway. Inaugurated last year, the Aldebaran Park Girls on Fire Time Trial series was devised as a lead-up to the Breed for Speed finals for squaregaiting mares on March 23. While they will no doubt provide a great pointer for those finals again this year, the time trials may also have implications for The Great Southern Star, also on March 23 at Melton. Among the half-dozen horses engaged on Sunday are Great Southern Star- qualified pair Cold Sister and Our Dolly Would. They will be joined by last start Tabcorp Park winner Sparks Ignite, Sultry Lady, Kilmainham and Prettylittleangeleyes.
