Well supported from his second line draw here last week, he was three wide without cover for most of the sprint journey and grabbed on the line by Machin Out. A return to the front line will aid his cause. DANGER: CHARLIE MACHSHEEN (7) trailed wide in the final circuit to win the Tontine Final here last week in a welcome return to form. This field looks a little easier but the wide draw won't help his cause. OTHERS: ILLAWONG GERALDINE (2) has only won three races and doesn't grade well but her recent efforts from the second line have been strong and she'll run a bold race this time over the sprint trip from the nice alley. SARUM KNIGHT (6) has now had five runs from a long spell, the latest of those when third here three weeks ago and followed by a solid fourth after leading, and he should be prominent here. Each way chances to LORD COBURN (9), who's been flying in the north of the state with four wins and a second from his last five runs; and SHIFTING SAND (10), who flashed home for second at Cranbourne a month ago at his latest outing. KAMWOOD JACK (3) is a blowout chance. RATINGS:4/7/2/6/9,10/3. SUGGESTED BET: TEO ENTEO (4) to win. RACE 5 Nevele R Stud Pace 7.24 TOP PICK: MARK DENNIS NZ (1) ran a close second to Smolda after leading here five starts back and hasn't had much luck since. He was wide in the last lap and fought on solidly for fourth in fast time to WASHMEPOCKETS NZ (11) here last week and this time draws to lead. DANGER: CUT FOR AN ACE (8) took a while to find winning form this time in but has done so recently with wins at Maryborough and here sandwiched around a tough second to Teo Enteo in a fast Bendigo affair. Drawn to trail the pole marker, he should be a sprint lane threat at the business end. OTHERS: WASHMEPOCKETS NZ (11) had his consistency at the top level rewarded with a win here last week which was a monster effort as he worked hard and wide to sit outside the leader and cleared out to win by 12 metres in a fast 1:55.9 for this trip. He'll again have to do it tough but looks to be in career best form. HENRIK ZETTERBERG NZ (3) is a former top youngster who hasn't won for nine months but recently joined the in-form Dean Braun stable for whom he ran a handy first up death seat third at Geelong a fortnight ago. He'll improve vastly for that effort and grades well against these. THE MIDNIGHT REIGN NZ (6) made it three from her latest four when beating a strong mares field here last week and although going to a wide alley, is certainly in the winning mix. SMUDGE BROMAC NZ (10) didn't have much luck in the Geelong Cup last time and can finish by these if he gets a strong enough pace up front. MICKEY MAC (4) and ARBER (9) are also not without some hope. RATINGS:1/8/3?11/6,10/4,7,9. SUGGESTED BET: MARK DENNIS NZ (1) to win and/or trifecta, 1 and 8 to win and run second with the field for third. RACE 6 HBV Trackbred 3YO Classic 7.54 TOP PICK: Some top fillies do battle here with three of them standing out from the others. GLENFERRIE SHUFFLE NZ (2) had an outstanding juvenile season culminating in her easy Breeders Crown win back in August and she was first up when working hard to the lead and cut down late by Im Smouldering here three weeks ago. Her latest effort was from a wide draw when covering ground in the final circuit and third in an NSW Oaks heat a fortnight ago and those two runs should have her at her best in a race where she draws the best of the main winning chances. DANGER: ITZ NOSURPRISESTHERE NZ (7) is an ex-Kiwi who ran third to Musical Delight in a 1:53.1 Raith Memorial at Menangle a month ago first up in Australia, then she out-finished that filly in an NSW Oaks heat there before storming home to win the final last Sunday, and it's only the wide draw that stops her from being the top pick. OTHERS: OUR FEMME FATALE (6) has won 8 of 16, included in those last season's Vicbred Final, and she scored at Ballarat at her first two starts this term before failing from the breeze when favourite and sixth behind Im Smouldering in an Oaks heat at Menangle. A top filly, she should be given another chance. ROGERS PASSION (1) is handy and has claims on her close third to Im Smouldering and GLENFERRIE SHUFFLE NZ (2) here two starts back and a last start second on this circuit when not as well suited in front. The query runner is LADY PATTI (10), who looked good in a couple of wins earlier this season here and at Terang and there was big money for her when as an odds-on favourite, she made a mistake first up in the SA Oaks a month ago. She's since won a trial here by 56.0 metres. RATINGS:2/7/6/1,10? SUGGESTED BET: Trifecta 2, 6 and 7 to win and run second, with 1, 2, 6, 7 and 10 for third. $18 for $1. RACE 7 Ufo Sulky - Knight Pistol 8.24 TOP PICK: Outstanding Kiwi STIG NZ (6) was a short priced favourite in the Glenferrie Challenge at Menangle last Sunday where he worked to the breeze at the 700 then made an untimely mistake. He'd won his three previous starts at home beating I Can Doosit, My Escapee and THE FIERY GINGA NZ (13) in those victories and although not as well suited over the sprint trip as in staying races, is the class factor and certainly the one to beat. DANGER: Fellow Kiwi VULCAN NZ (1) hasn't won for more than a year but comes off four Menangle placings, the latest when finishing strongly for third in that Glenferrie challenge last Sunday. He'll either lead or take a sit on whatever does. OTHERS: Former star SUNDONS GIFT NZ (3), who's now an eleven year old, ran second to My Escapee first up for a year here before drawing poorly in two subsequent outings and not getting into the money. Those three runs will have him as fit as he can be and the old SUNDONS GIFT NZ (3) would lead and beat these. THE FIERY GINGA NZ (13) is a front running Kiwi who set up the 1:56.3 time when fourth at Menangle last Sunday. He's not well drawn but is certainly a class factor against these. Chances also to ELEGANT IMAGE (7), who's won the Breeders Crown last season and was placed behind I Didnt Do It in the Bill Collins Mile and Dullard Cup in December. His latest effort was a back mark fourth in the SA Trotters Cup at Globe Derby eight weeks ago and he draws awkwardly first up but a forward showing wouldn't surprise. EARL OF MOT NZ (8) got back to winning form when hitting the line well here last week and he's in the mix as is ALEPPO SUNRISE (5), who has gate speed and is always a chance in this type of race. RATINGS:6/1/3,13/5,7?8/12. SUGGESTED BET: STIG NZ (6) to win. RACE 8 Empire Stallions Vicbred 2 8.54 TOP PICK: MISTER SHEEDY (2) will be at a short quote to beat these. An Emma Stewart trained winner of 11 of his 25 starts, he followed back-to-back country victories with a tough Maryborough second, a third here in the Country Clubs Final to Im Corzin Terror in a fast 1:55.8 middle distance, then he disappointed in a strong race at Menangle three weeks ago where he led and only battled. As the likely leader over the sprint trip here, he should win. DANGER: WESTERN ROCKSTAR (9) won well at Terang then wasn't disgraced in the 4YO Bonanza here behind Restrepo before charging home to score at Hamilton a fortnight ago. OTHERS: AMAJORJO (4) has won eight of ten this season with Ararat and Maryborough victories followed by a luckless Terang Cup effort and a terrific wide-to-the-breeze Hamilton success last time where finishing off in 55.7. Some chance to a resuming PINEVALE WILLPOWER (5), who's trialled well, and NIGHT AFFAIR (7), who was placed here last week but isn't well suited from the wide draw over the sprint trip this time. RATINGS:2/4,9/7/5? SUGGESTED BET: Multi trifecta 2 to win, 4 and 9 for second and 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 for third. RACE 9 Pryde's Easifeed Trot 9.24 TOP PICK: Last season's Breeders Crown 3YO winner TRIUMPHANT MONARCH NZ (6) was just in need of the run when, after a torrid trip from the wide alley, he just failed to pick up Orlandos Dream here a fortnight ago. He'll be fitter for that, his first run since last August and looks clearly the top pick. DANGER: TENDAHO (11) won four on end including the Central Victorian Championship before making an early mistake and tailing out at Geelong last weekend. He's better suited here from the mobile and in career best form. OTHERS: KATMANDONNY (3) is a handy four year old who followed a Kilmore win and close second to TENDAHO (11) here with a bad beginning in that same Geelong race last week when making a lot of ground in the closing stages. The mobile and good alley see him as a strong winning hope. WAIKARE ARISTOCRAT (2), who's won 9 of 31, finished strongly alongside top four year old Aldebaran Shades when a close second to that fellow at Shepparton last week and the third horse Star Style has won since. SIR PEGASUS (1), MISTER ELWOOD (5) and CHIPMONT LAD (10) are also in the mix. RATINGS:6/11/2,3/1,5/10. SUGGESTED BET: TRIUMPHANT MONARCH NZ (6) to win. RACE 10 Benstud Youthful Stakes 9.54 TOP PICK: PRESIDENTIALSECRET (2) debuted with an impressive third to standout youngster Yankee Rockstar in the Sapling Stakes here three weeks ago where he ran on strongly in a 56.8 last half. He'll be improved by the experience. DANGER: MULGRAVE (4) made a mistake, then ran on strongly for a debut fourth to YOUNG MODERN (7) at Yarra Valley last week and looks a likely prospect. OTHERS: YOUNG MODERN (7) sat behind Yankee Rockstar when a length second to him in the Sapling, then led and went slowly to score at Yarra Valley last time. An impressive colt, his biggest problem here is the wide draw. First starter SKETCH ME (5) (Modern Art ñ Yeronga Ecila) is a Wayne Potter trained colt who recently won a Kilmore trial and should be respected. ZNANA (9) is an honest type with each way claims. The other debutante is ARMA AUGUSTUS NZ (1) (Pay Me Christian ñ Arma Class), a Bill Morgan trained Kiwi bred colt who won and was placed in trials in his homeland. He's related to six winners and should be kept safe. RATINGS:2/4/7/5?/9/1? SUGGESTED BET: PRESIDENTIALSECRET (2) to win. RACE 11 Horse Gym Aust. 3YO Trot 10.25 TOP PICK: The David Van Ryn trained stablemates DORA PEPPERELL (5) and PARIS PEPPERELL (8) look the main winning chances with the nod going to DORA PEPPERELL (5) as she's drawn the front line. She broke her maiden status at Maryborough two starts back, then worked hard to lead when second in a blistering 1:59.7 at Bendigo recently and running that time again, she'll be mighty hard to beat. DANGER: PARIS PEPPERELL (8) followed a hat trick of placings here in good company with a luckless third in that same Bendigo race and although drawn awkwardly, is good enough to work into it at the right time. OTHERS: LIME AND LEMONADE (3) runs many places but rarely wins. She's a handy filly who's run into some good ones in the past and has claims first up for some time on her second at Bendigo in December to PARIS PEPPERELL (8) where she led, as she's likely to do here. PACKED UP EARLY (7) has talent but quite often makes a mistake. She was in the betting when out of business early first up at Bendigo recently but would certainly be in it if she trotted all the way. AINSDALE (6) had good form at this level last season but hasn't started since failing at Melton last June and not been seen at the trials. Please yourself!!. RATINGS:5/8/3?/6?7. SUGGESTED BET: DORA PEPPERELL (5) to win. RACE 12 Vicbred Trotters Handicap 10.52 TOP PICK: An open squaregaiters affair where the improving DAWN TEARS (2) has a good chance of breaking her maiden status. She led and went quickly when third at Cranbourne two starts back, then was a luckless third to Like It Chilled in a similar race here a fortnight ago. DANGER: SMILEIFULUVME (4) put it all together for the first time when a solid wide-to- the-breeze second at Kilmore last week and is another who can break her maiden status. OTHERS: WAIKARE SUN (11) was a solid second to the in-form Star Style at Cobram last Monday and is strongly in the mix as are TELERN TIGER (3), SHES A HEAD TURNER (7), SALUTE THE WIND (12) and LOOK HERE BLOKE (13). RATINGS:2/4,11/3,7,12,13/5,6,8,9/14. SUGGESTED BET: DAWN TEARS (2) to win. Tabcorp Park Melton continued TONIGHT Newcastle Sprint Lane: No Daily Double: 5, 7 Quaddie: 4, 5, 6, 7.
