He is a beautifully bred pacer and trialled nicely at Melton, where he was eased of the gate and hit the line strongly in a quick last quarter. DANGER: GOWAN BRAE (8) has always had big wraps on him and defeated Rockbank Dancer in that Melton trial and his effort last start was solid behind the smart Yankee Rockstar. OTHERS: DRUNKEN JEFF (5) went well on debut so did TABANAN (2) and you have to respect MY MACH SCOOTER (3) and SHOOSKA (6) who has also trialled well. SELECTIONS: Rockbank Dancer (4), Gowan Brae (8), Drunken Jeff (5), Tabanan (2) RATINGS: 8,4,5 / 2,3,6 / 1 - 7 SUGGESTED BET: Rockbank Dancer EW 2 Valley Views 3YO 2.29 1650m. $5000. 3yo Fillies 3C0 Only RBD Mobile 1 56659 PASSIONATE EMBRACE Daryl Douglas Fr 10.00 2 7r522 CLEVEDON BETTY Gavin Lang Fr 2.40 3 46560 OPEN HEART Michael Bellman Fr 10.00 4 57s COURAGEOUSLEE Tony Pullicino Fr 18.00 5 67969 AMUSING CRUISER Scratched Fr --- 6 3 ARTISTICA UNO John Caldow Fr 5.00 7 7s126 MCRITA Rodney Petroff Fr 4.50 Second Line 8 s8681 LOUISIANA SPRING Joshua Duggan (C) Fr 5.00 9 979s0 SILVA CHARM LOMBO Nathan Jack Fr 25.00 TOP PICK: CLEVEDON BETTY (2) gets her chance to win her first race, she has been very good her last two starts and has the draw to lead, which is a major plus over the short trip at Yarra Valley. DANGER: ARTISTICA UNO (6) didn't have any luck on debut from the second row draw, but she hit the line strongly and is a great chance. OTHERS: MCRITA (7) has been consistent but she might have to do it tough again and LOUISIANA SPRING (8) was impressive in a weaker race last start, but she has the ability to taste success once again. SELECTIONS: Clevedon Betty (2), Artistica Uno (6), McRita (7), Louisiana Spring (8) RATINGS:2/6,7/8/3,4/1-9 SUGGESTED BET: Clevedon Betty to win. 3 Bayswater Village 3.05 2150m. $5000. 4yo & up C0 Only PBD Mobile Heat 1 86 MARGIN CALL Rita Burnett Fr 25.00 2 48575 REGAL THEORY Jason Fearn Fr 30.00 3 s7740 COMEON GETALIFE Greg Sugars Fr 10.00 4 339s7 KATAGORIC Bill Morgan Fr 15.00 5 87055 NO HARMONY Craig Demmler Fr 15.00 6 96934 RORYBEEBELLOWS Phillip Percy Fr 9.00 7 3 ROGUES REWARD (Em1) Daryl Douglas Fr Second Line 8 5s63 TERRA BEAU Darren Zahra Fr 10.00 9 948s2 ANTIGUA Christopher Shinn Fr 4.00 10 24325 ANOTHER ELSU John Caldow Fr 5.00 11 65697 BETTER LUCK ELSU Michael Bellman Fr 12.00 12 8s304 OHYEAH LIFEGOESON Gavin Lang Fr 3.00 TOP PICK: OHYEAHLIFEGOESON (12) is the best horse in the race and its quite simple if he turns up and behaves he should be winning, but being on his best manners has been a problem for him in the past. DANGER: ANTIGUA (9) was buried back on the inside at his first run back from a break and wasn't disgraced in defeat as a short price favourite. OTHERS: ANOTHER ELSU (10) can make his own luck and has been going well. Rorybeebellows and Comeon Getalife have places chances. He gets a better draw today and will be tough to beat. DANGER: MAJOR LANDSCAPE (1) has been going well this preparation and gets a lovely draw. OTHERS: CLANCYS FOBWATCH (4) won a weaker race last start but is improving and the rest are a pretty even lot. RATINGS:1,2/4/5,6,8,11/10,9,6/7-3 SUGGESTED BET: Intergalactic to win. 5 De Bortoli Pace 4.13 2150m. $5000. Her form in New Zealand was exceptional for a race like this, finishing behind the likes of Kiwi Ideal and Cheer The Lady. She isn't blessed with great gate speed but if she is within striking distance she will be very hard to beat. DANGER: ILLAWONG GERLADINE (9) has been flying of late and didn't have any luck last start behind Amajorjo. OTHERS: PAINTBALL (2) is a consistent mare and rarely runs a poor race, FAIREST ONE YOU ARE (4) might be the earlier leader here and can give cheek. DANGER: STEELY BLUE (8) has been going ok of late but gets the draw to be leaders back and is a terrific place chance. OTHERS: ONE TOUGH REIGN (11) and BRAEVIEW WARRIOR (12) are handy enough horses but have terrible draws to overcome and Tender Earl hasn't been disgraced its last couple this preparation. SELECTIONS: Rowdy Rocket (1), Steely Blue (8), One Tough Reign (11), Braeview Warrior (12). RATINGS: 1 / 8,11,12 / 2,4 / 3 / 5,7,6,10. He won the South Australian Derby and then had a set back after the heat of the Victoria Derby, but showed last start he's over his problems and it is hard to see him being beaten. DANGER: REGAL KNIGHT (2) always showed terrific ability despite being costly for punters on a few occasions but I think he's a better horse in better company. OTHERS: SCRUFFY MURPHY (4) can sprint quickly off a pace, MARIO FENECH (8) has a nice draw and TYLER BROMAC (11) and LA MACHANE (12) are quality animals but have nightmare draws. SELECTIONS: Flaming Flutter (1), Regal Knight (2), Scruffy Murphy (4), Mario Fenech (8). RATINGS:1/2/4/8,11,12/3/7/5/9,10. SUGGESTED BET: Tri / 1 -2 - 4,8,11,12 8 United Petroleum 6.10 2150m. $5000. DANGER: MALLEE TRAPPER (8) was impressive first up from a break and he looks like he has come back a bigger and better trotter this time in. OTHERS: SUNSET TOUR (7) never runs a bad race and MOWBRAY MATES (1) is a top place chance after its effort at Boort last start. SELECTIONS: Duke Of The Moment (11), Mallee Trapper (8), Sunset Tour (7), Mowbray Mates (1). RATINGS:11/8,7/1/2,3,6/10,9-5 SUGGESTED BET: Duke of The Moment to win. Back on track: Blitzthemcalder announces his return. Vulcan too hot THE action on the track lived up to the hype at the inaugural Great Southern Star Series at Tabcorp Park on Saturday night. Vulcan dominated his heat and the final in front of a big crowd in one of the most authoritative and arrogant displays since the great Lyall Creek dominated Australian trotting at the turn of the century. Settling near the rear of the field from barrier 11 in heat two, Vulcan came from second last at the 600m, went around every horse and ran away in the final 200m to score by 12m. Backing up in the $250,000 final, Vulcan, the $1.60 favourite, settled midfield from barrier two before driver Anthony Butt pulled out three wide at the 800m and crushed his rivals, winning by 7m in a 1.56.5-mile rate. Trainer Tim Butt credited fellow trainer Paul Nairn for the huge improvement that Vulcan has made in the past month. ''Paul is a master with trotters and Vulcan has been working with Stig during his stay in Victoria,'' Butt said. ''We had some problems with Vulcan, and Paul suggested a few changes in his training program. The horse has thrived under the new regime.'' It is expected that Vulcan will be invited to contest the Elitloppet in Sweden in May. Curtain for Stig? THE big crowd that was trackside were fortunate to see one of the bravest trotters produced in Australasia take out the first heat of the Great Southern Star. Despite not being anywhere near his scintillating best, 10-year-old Stig was too tough, racing three wide early before occupying the position outside of the leader. Stig, having his first campaign in Australia, has had a brilliant but injury- ravaged career. Sadly, Stig broke in the final shortly after the start and was never a factor. He pulled up lame after the race and the curtain may have come down on his career. Euro star WHILE Stig put up a great performance to win heat one of the GSS, the talk of the track after the heat was the amazing performance of European raider Ridgehead Cahore. Written off by many after galloping at his first two Australian starts, Ridgehead Cahore settled last from his second-line draw. He fought valiantly all the way to the line for third place, despite the effort taking its toll in the last 100m. Ridgehead was clocked to run his third quarter in 27.1 seconds and his last half in 56.2. He finished a very creditable fifth in the final. Flash return THERE were some great performances on Saturday night but there was none more impressive than Blitzthemcalder in the three- year-old trot. While some were starting to raise questions as to how well last season's Victorian Trotter of the Year had returned this season, Blitzthemcalder won by 28m in a mile rate of 1.56.5. THE HEROES VULCAN Dominant in both heat and final of Great Southern Star. BLITZTHEMCALDER Awesome win by 28m in 1.56.5 in the Prince Of Speed. STIG Great to see him win a Group 1 even when not at his best. CHRIS LANG Three winners on the biggest night of trotting in Australasia. RIDGEHEAD CAHORE Unbelievable heat run for third. HORSES TO FOLLOW RIDGEHEAD CAHORE Showed breathtaking speed in his Great Southern Star heat. On that run will win very shortly. MY HIGH EXPECTATIONS Fantastic run for third in GSS final. Follow him in any race he contests. CENTONIC Charged home from last at Kilmore on Thursday night and will win again soon on that run.
